Being single gave me time, to focus on my school work. I managed to ace the rest of my midterms but I've been lonely. Devin hasn't spoken to me, this week and I can't blame him. Zora did say that he asked about me, though. See, he's so sweet. She thinks we still have a chance but I REALLY have to make it up to him. I've sat in my thoughts and made a decision I never thought I'd make. "I'm putting in a two weeks notice." I whisper to Teyana. It's almost my Birthday and Spring Break week and I've already taken off, for it but I still have the right to put a notice in. "What? Why?!" She yells and pulls me aside. Malika tries to mind her business but I know she wants to know what's up. "I can't do this anymore, Tee. Devin broke up with me because of Marcus. I don't know if he'll ever take me back but if I have any chance, I gotta get out of here." "Damn, man. I didn't know it would get like this. How the hell he found out?" "He came to surprise me and overheard me and Zora talking." "Damn, love. Yea, I can't even be mad at you but don't forget about me, bitch!" She makes me laugh. It's the first time in days!
I know Marcus and Lorenzo will be pissed, because I'll only be working today and Thursday, now. I'm just going to give the letter to Lorenzo and ask him to keep it confidential. After all, he's the general manager. I begin my lunch break and head straight for Lorenzo's office. "Knock knock." I fake smile. "Charity, come on in." He says. I reluctantly close the door behind me. "What's wrong?" He says, as he sees my face. "I really hate to do this, I do, but I have to." Now, I have tears, in my eyes. I know I'm making my parents happy and Devin could be happy but it still hurts. "Charity, what's wrong? Are you leaving us?" He looks at the papers, in my hands. "Yes and I know it's last minute but it wasn't planned." He gets up, from his desk and hugs me. It surprises yet comforts me. I cry harder. "Charity, we love you, here and you clearly don't want to do this but you have to." He starts. "Is there something going on, here, that I need to know about?" Yes but I can't tell him. "You can tell me, if there is someone here, doing something to you." He hits the nail on the head. I'm silent.
A knock on the door scares me. "Renzo you in there?" I hear Marcus ask. Lorenzo looks down, at me. "I need a few minutes. I'll come find you." Lorenzo says. "Alright, cool." I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding. "What did he do?" Lorenzo steps back, to look at me. "Huh?" I ask, confused. "What did Marcus do? You tensed up, like crazy, just now. If he's done something, you can tell me and I'll handle it." "No, Lorenzo, I'm fine. Marcus has done nothing wrong to me. He just scared me, that's all." I kinda lie. Marcus didn't necessarily do anything wrong, to me, but he's definitely why I'm leaving. "Okay, well if there's anything you need me to do, I'm here for you. I'll see if we can do an impromptu going away party on Thursday." "Uhh...no! I'd rather not. Can we keep this between us?" Now, I know he knows it's something wrong with me and Marcus. "Okay. Just between us." He hugs me again. "Thank you."

"I'm proud of you, Raine." My mom says. She's the main one that wanted me not to work. "Graduation is literally around the corner and you need to focus." "Yea I have a B, in one class, now. Ugh. But he said he knows I'll bring it back up." I say. "Yea, that's not like you. You've lost your focus. Is everything okay?" I have to tell her but I don't want to. "Yea, it's just that everything is happening so fast and it's my last semester, you know." I was so into these men and the lifestyle that I didn't even try to graduate last semester. Amara's advisor screwed her over, so she had to stay one more semester too. I'm considering staying here, after school, though. I really don't want to work at the family company and I've been thinking of going to grad school. "Well it's time you focus and figure out what you want to do. You're a smart and beautiful girl. Employers will be fighting for you." My mom is so sweet. "Thanks, Mama." "No problem, baby. Now you enjoy the start of your birthday and Spring Break. I love you." "I love you too."
I get dressed, to meet the girls at Jaydah and Lilah's place. We're supposed to be pregaming, before the Spring Break party. My birthday is Tuesday, but I'm celebrating from today and until next Sunday. I'll try to anyway. Zora wouldn't let me cancel all of our plans. I pull up, in front of their dorm and the lights are off. "Did these hoes leave me?" Now, I'm thinking Zora may not have believed me, when I said I'd still come. The door is cracked, so now I'm worried. I pull out my pepper spray and slowly open the door. "SURPRISE!!!!!" People yell. I'm so scared, I run back out of the door. "Girl, where you going?" Jaydah laughs. I finally realize they threw me a party, for my birthday. I can't help but smile, as I see our friends and decorations. Tears start falling but when I see Devin, I start to cry even harder. A wave of "awws" roll across the room. Most of them have no idea why I'm crying. My face dives into my hand. I feel someone come hug me and I can smell that it's Devin. "It's okay, Cher." He says. "Let's turn up, okay?" "Okay." I finally look up, at him. Everyone cheers and the party begins.
Thankfully I have some makeup here, so I can touch it up. All that damn crying made streaks, on my face. "He's here, y'all." I say, to my girls. They left everyone else, in the living room. "You thought Warren was crazy about me, but no one's more crazy than Devin." Zora says. "Right! He may not jump right back into a relationship but Dayquan told me, that he said he's happy you quit working. That shows him you had some remorse." Jaydah says. "I do. I made such a mistake. I knew he was who I needed but I was being stupid. I pray he forgives me." "He will, in due time." Lilah hugs me. "I love y'all so much." I say. "Alright, enough sap. Let's get lit!" Jaydah says. We all agree and head back out, to the function.
We take shots and mingle, for about an hour, before heading to the party. "We got approved, for the section for a cheaper price, so it's definitely lit!" Jaydah says. "Yesss!" We yell. There are only four available but they're expensive. "Zora, what did you do?" I ask. "Girl you know how I do." She flips her hair. "One quick smile and the world is at my feet." She's not lying. "I'm so happy all of my friends are beautiful." Lilah says. "Lilah!" Jaydah says, as we all laugh. "I'm just saying, do you know how awful that would be. We'd never get anything." On that note, we all take another drink.
