Because we all will be spending time, with our families, for Thanksgiving this Thursday, my crew and I decided to do a Friendsgiving, before then. I've done enough editing, for the day, so I'm ready to cook my portion. I'm making sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole. I know not many people want that but I do. "I laugh at myself, as I scan the aisle, for the little onions, to go on top of the green beans. I would've came before today but I've been editing the Thanksgiving Party pictures non stop. "I think it's time you start shopping elsewhere. This is getting weird." I hear Kai's voice. I know he told me earlier, that he had to go to the store, too. I also had told him that I kept seeing a certain couple, in the Walmart near school. No real details though.

"Very funny." I laugh. "You know I been waiting to ask you something." Kai says, making my heart skip a beat. I have no clue where this is going. "Uh, what?" I ask. "Are you okay?" His question shocks me. I was expecting to be asked something weird. "Uh, yea. What do you mean?" "Well, like I said in your interview, we do a name search, of the people who want to work with us. I saw a little bit of what you went through and I just wanted to know if you're okay." I forgot that he said that. I never even searched my own name but I know that whole Marcus thing is out there, especially because of Officer Collins' lil scandalous ass. "Yea. I'm okay. Doing much better." "That's good. Will you be okay, once he gets out?" I roll my eyes at the thought. "Yea, I'm hoping he forgets about me, by then." I'm not sure I even believe myself, when I say this. "Uh, you do know he's scheduled to get out soon right?" "What?!" I damn near snap neck, turning back to him. "Yea, he had good behavior and the only reason they held him that long is because they wanted to finish the investigation, with that officer. The crime's been so bad, with all this sex trafficking shit, they letting the misdemeanors go like crazy. It's slick scary." WTF. I freeze in place, not knowing what to do. I had just talked to him a few days ago and now he's getting out soon. "I'm sorry. I thought you would know. He should be out, by Christmas or New Years, I heard."

I haven't moved out of my parents' house yet, but I guess now is the time. Marcus knows where my parents live and I can't risk him showing up. I just can't risk it, knowing that he hit Jasmine. "Shit, Jasmine." I say, out loud. "What?" Kai asks, confused. "His wife. I wonder if she knows. Last time I spoke to her, she hadn't moved. Then I spoke to him and he said it's going to be crazy getting a divorce. I need to warn her." "Wait, you talked to him?" At this point, Kai's looking at me crazy. Although I've only known him for six months, he's become like an older brother. "I know it sounds crazy. I just wanted to hear that he was okay. I didn't think he was going to be out soon." "Damn, Charity. You better be careful. I know he didn't hurt y'all too bad but you don't know what he's done to her, before." He says, making a point. There wasn't any evidence but I know what I saw, that one time he hit her face. "I gotta move." I say. "I told you move out to Peachtree City, by me. The crime level is so low. I know your parents would approve." He had already gotten Tory and one other Masterworker to move out there. "I just might have to take you up on that."

After leaving the store, I went straight home, to start my dishes. While they're in the oven, I start looking at apartments on Kai's side of town. It's going to be hard living alone, with my parents an hour away. I don't know about this. Ugh. My phone rings and it scares the hell out of me. "Hey, Z." I answer, when I see it's Zora. "Are you gone be on time?" She asks. We're supposed to all be there at 7 and it's about 5:30. "Yes, girl." I laugh. Both my dishes should be done by 6. I'll be on my way by 6:30." "Umhmm. You know I gotta check on you and Jaydah. Y'all hoes can't be anywhere on time." Zora says, making me laugh. "I got my outfit put together, already, so I'm good. I'm just apartment hunting, while the food is in the oven." "Oh you're finally thinking about moving?" She got her an apartment as soon as she graduated. Her and Warren found apartments nearby each other but not in the same complex. They wanted their privacy, when needed. Devin graduates next month but I don't know if he would even be pressed to stay in the city, since we're not together. I mean Warren's here but he'd drive two hours to see his boy, any day.

"Yea, Kai wants me to move out the Peachtree City." I finally say. "That boy likes you." Zora says, for the millionth time. I honestly can't read him, to know. He just seems nice, to everyone. "I don't know about that." "I do. Everything you've ever said about him makes me think so. He offers to buy you lunch, at least once a week and NO ONE else. He makes it his business to check on you, during the day. And now he wants you to move in with him." "Zora! This man is not asking me to move in with him." We both crack up laughing. "I think he's just being protective. He told me today that he been saw the news reports about me and Marcus. I think that's why he's been checking on me." "Damn. I'm glad they still hired you." "Same. Maybe they felt sorry for me. Either way, I'm happy to be there." "Well at least if you do move out there, you'll have him to check in on you. It's far from your folks and Devin hasn't made any moves, with you. Who's to say he'll stay here, after graduation?" "That's my thoughts exactly." A much as I'd love for Devin to stick around, maybe it's time I moved on. I don't deserve him, anyway.
