Mr. Lewis called us into a special meeting and everybody's pretty shook. We normally have one meeting on Mondays, to discuss the week's agenda. It's Thursday. "I know everyone is confused but I'll keep this short." Mr. Lewis starts. Mark Simmons' Christmas Party is this weekend and I've told everyone who'll be working it, already. Well, not everyone." People start to murmur. Kai looks at me, skeptically and then smiles and shakes his head, like he just realized something. "This year, I'd like to acknowledge someone who isn't an exec, who's been so outstanding. I'd like that person to be the 6th member of the Christmas Party bunch." I want it to be me so bad but everyone has been doing great. If anything, he'll pick a secondary. "Charity West." He says my name and I freeze. I sorta hear people clapping but I'm not sure. "Charity." He says again. Kai rushes over to me. "You good?" He asks. "He said my name?" I ask. "Yes, crazy." Kai says, making a few people laugh. "You've deserved it, Ms. West." Mr. Lewis assures me. "Oh my God, thank you so much!" I finally react. This is unbelievable. I glance at Tory and he doesn't look so happy. Damn.
Saturday rolls around and the execs and I take two cars, to the Party venue. This is insane. I was chosen over a secondary. "Now that we're in the car. You know the secondaries probably hate you right?" China, a videography exec says. I've been thinking that, over the past two days. You'll easily make $1,000 from this, because I heard they give out $500 gift cards, to the workers. We're already getting a bonus, from Mr. Lewis on Monday. This year, I'm going all out, for myself, for Christmas. "I know." I groan. "But don't let that get to you." James, a photography exec says. "I worked here for three months, after my training and became an exec, over about 5 secondaries. They had no choice but to respect my work. They have to do the same with you." "But did y'all see how Tory looked, though? Buddy was hurt." Kai says. I couldn't agree more. We finally make it to the venue and meet up with the other two execs.
Although I'm here, with the execs, I'm still on photo booth duty. I can use that to my advantage though. If I get enough important people to take pictures, Mark will definitely want to buy them. I need to get him in the booth. I shake my thoughts away, as groups of people come for pictures. When they make silly faces, I frown on the inside because I'm sure he won't be interested. I don't know why he just doesn't buy them all. Or maybe he asks the people in the pics, if they want them and he buys them, then. Ugh I don't know but I shouldn't be greedy. I made about $400 at the Thanksgiving party, so I'm sure I can do the same, or even better, tonight. Only thing is the photo booth is for four hours and not two. I'll only have like one hour in the field.

It's Christmas Day and I couldn't be happier. I've gone all out, for my family friends and even myself. I decorated my apartment really nicely, even though I'm at my parents' house, right now. Just like last year, we opened our gifts with our immediate family and then pile up at our house, for the rest of the family gift exchange. "Last year somebody was asked to be a girlfriend. I was hoping this time it'd be an engagement," My grandma says, eyeing me. No one really knows what happened with me and Devin. "Grandma. I'm still young. I'll get married one day." I smile, even though I'm slightly annoyed. "Before I die, please." She throws shade and walks away. I roll my eyes and turn my attention to Amerie. "Hell, you should be the one she's talking about. You're actually in a relationship." I say. Her and JB actually decided on dating and entered a "long" distance relationship. "Girl, no! I am in no rush. I just want to enjoy the moment." Amerie says. "Well I'm happy for you."
After all the gifts are given, we head for the tables, to eat. I get a notification on my Apple Watch indicating a phone call, from Kai. I slip away, to my room and answer. "Hey! Merry Christmas." I say. "Merry Christmas. I hope all is well. I hate to bother you." Kai says. "It's fine. What's up?" "I heard ya boy is out." I automatically know he means Marcus. He called yesterday but I didn't answer. "What? How you know?" He's been a little too into this situation. "I got a friend that worked in the court room yesterday. He was released." "Damn. That's why he called. He's going to be trying to contact me even more." "I hate to tell you on Christmas but I just want you to be careful. I'm not sure if he knows where your parents live. He might try showing up, if you don't answer." He says, making a point. "I appreciate that." "No problem. If you need me, even out there, call me."
I sit through dinner thinking about Marcus. Thankfully he doesn't know where I moved to but he DOES know where my parents live. I just don't know if he's changed and I can't risk him hurting me. "Where your head at?" Uncle P asks. "Just thinking. I'm okay." Uncle Andrew eyes me, like he knows I'm lying. He's probably thinking about how he saw me with Marcus last year. SHIT! Marcus' picture was blasted on the news report. I know he knows more than everyone, since he's actually seen Marcus. I just want to sink through my chair and into the basement.
