As we ride the straight shot, to Fort Valley, we down our mixed drinks. We know it's illegal, to drink while driving but for some reason, college students, just don't care. We never get caught. One time, we got pulled over, so we all gulped the rest of our drinks. Lilah was driving, so Jaydah drank the rest of her drink, for her. One of her back lights were out, which we knew. I said Lilah was sensitive but she's also learned a few tricks, from Jaydah. She started crying about how her dad was going to be upset for "messing up the car he spent so much money on." The office started freaking out, telling her "It's no big deal. Just make sure you get it fixed ASAP." I don't know how it worked, but it did. Jaydah fixed Lilah's makeup, when we got to our destination.
We pull into the apartments, of the frats boys Devin rides with. I texted him, along the way, to make sure he'd be there. We're probably too excited, to finally see each other, again. We head up to apartment 301, where the music blasting. Hella dudes are standing outside, putting their mac on. It's quite funny, actually. I see a few of the other dudes, that caught my eye, last time. They're way more attractive, here, than in my city. Devin steered me away from all of them. He's nice and chocolate, with a muscular body. He has just the right amount of tattoos. He's damn near perfect.
Just as we step in, Devin and his boys greet us. It's a good mix of men and women, in here, so it should be a good night. I hate a sausage fest. "Charity West." Devin pulls me, into a hug. "Devin James," I respond. "You look damn good, girl. Jesus." He spins me around, to get a full view. Did I mention he's charming? "Thank you. I try." I shrug. "Let's get these ladies some drinks." Warren says. He's super tall and caramel. The ideal man, for most women. Zora has him at her every beck and call. Don't get it confused, though. They're not together. They've never even had sex but he's wrapped around her little finger. I like my men chocolate, like Devin. The beautiful chocolate babies we would have.
An hour in and I'm already feeling the liquor. I don't drink much, so when I do, it hits fast. Zora and Warren has been ducked off, for a while. Jaydah and Lilah both found some men to play with. They can't actually do anything, because they're both in relationships. Dayquan would kill Jaydah and Jeremy would kill Lilah. I laugh at my thought and continue scanning the room. A group of girls walk in and I remember them, from last time. Apparently Mira has been tryna talk to Warren, for the longest. He's obviously not interested. He strongly believes that Zora's going to be ready to settle down, soon. He might be right. She's been hurt, by her ex, so she's taking her time.
Lilah and Jaydah lock eyes with me, as they peeped who walked in. Devin comes and sits next to me, as if that would stop whatever that may go down. Last time, Jaydah jumped in an argument, between Zora and Mira. Zora doesn't argue. Period. BUT that girl got hands. I'm a true witness. One thing we all got in common is that we got hands. No one, at our school, has the guts to try us. But these bitches here, they have no idea. Noticing that Zora's not in the room, Mira smirks. Two seconds later, she realizes that neither is Warren. Her attitude changes. She pulls out her phone and I'm assuming she's about to text Warren. She's pathetic.
I periodically look at my phone, to watch for any messages from our group chat. I see a notification, from Snapchat, so I check it. I'm surprised to see that it's a friend request, from Marcus. Why in the hell would my manager add me on Snap? I don't want those kind of problems. I kindly ignored the notification and returned my attention to the kick back. "So, good news," Devin says. "I'll be in your city, in the fall." "Wait, what? You got accepted?" All of that Mira drama exits my head. Devin and I could really work. "I got accepted. I'm gonna be in Villa 2." "Just as soon as they move me out of there, huh?" "It's all good, though. At least I'll be closer to you." "I can't wait." We only have one more week of Summer left and then he'll be all mine.

Devin and I have been talking, this whole weekend. I've been single for over a year, so it's about time I get serious with someone. "Welcome to Walmart," the associate says, as I walk. I swear, I go to Walmart almost every single day. It's sad. I make my grocery lists but I still manage to need more, during the week. I grab a small basket and head to the seafood section. I'm feeling shrimp, today. As I make my way over, I notice Marcus, standing right in front of the shrimp. I didn't plan on seeing him, until work later. He's with who I assume to be his wife. She's beautiful. Her natural hair is to die for. I decide to patiently wait until they're done.
"Oh hey, Charity," Marcus notices me. "Babe, this is Charity. She's one of the associates, at the hotel. This is my wife, Jasmine." We both give polite "hi's" and waves. "I'm gonna go see if they still have the milk on sale. I'll be right back." Jasmine says. She rushes off. "She is gorgeous." I say. "Thank you. I know how to choose 'em." " I see." "Well, did you see my friend request?" He asks, shocking me. "I did. That's a bit weird, to add my manager, on social media." I answer. "I guess I can understand that." I finally grab my shrimp. "I'll think about it." I say, before walking away. I briefly pass Jasmine and we wave again. I wonder if she knows her husband adds his employees, on social media. That can't be good.
I hurry back home and make my lunch. We can have free food, from the hotel chefs, but sometime I just want my own cooking. I make curry shrimp, rice and potatoes. Normally I'd eat a meat and vegetables but this meal doesn't require any. My co-workers constantly ask me to bring them a plate, whenever I cook. I don't want to get them hooked. I'm that good.
It takes me about 30 minutes, to cook everything and then another 30 to get ready and make it to work. I'm working a short shift, 11-5, so I only get a 30 minute break, around 2. Like I said, this is play money. My parents still support me, if needed. I save most of my money, for trips and my savings. I also keep it, just in case they decide I'm too damn old to be supported. Most parents would have left their kid hanging, after they turned 18. They gave me a car, when I turned 16. It was a super old Toyota. By the time I turned 21, it was paid off and they got me another car. An Acura. I've never been so in love, with a car.
I clock in, at 10:58, just before Marcus comes in. "Good to see you, again, Charity," he says. "Do you and your wife always go early grocery shopping?" I ask. "We do, for now. She normally works nights, at the hospital. When she's off, we spend sun up and sun down together, if we can." "Hospital? What does she do?" "She's a nurse." "Nice." "Power couple, huh?" "Something like that." He turns away and heads to his office. There's something mysterious about him. "Oh bitch, he wants you," Teyana says. I swear that girl was on a bathroom break. "What are you talking about?" I haven't even told her about him adding me on Snap. I don't want to make a big deal out of this. "He doesn't talk to everybody, like he does to you. Every time I turn around, he's up under you." "Girl, that man is married and soon, I'll be with Devin." "Devin isn't forbidden fruit."
