It's Not Over

I've been apartment shopping, for two weeks straight and I think I finally found the place I want. Zora, Ella and Kai are all here, today, to take one last look, before I sign a lease. "I'm already sold." Ella says, as she sips on the complimentary soda. "Girl." I laugh. "Okay, we'll take the big golf cart and head on up." The leasing agent says. She's already shown me these two apartments yesterday but I'm not sure which one I want. Hell, they're both like $1,250 a month. We head to the one on the first floor, by the pool. It's pretty spacious, has nice closet space and it's close to the leasing office. "You sure you gone wanna deal with all the noise, from the pool?" Kai asks, eyeing how close the pool is. "I thought about that. I just like that it's on the first floor, ya know?" I answer. 

We look around for a while, before going to see the other one. "Remember, you get a beautiful view of the lake, from this one." The leasing agent says. "The good thing about this is that you're not on the first floor, so hopefully bugs and stuff, won't be a problem. The bad things is having to carry all your shit up these stairs." Zora says, making a good point. "At least you won't have to hear anyone, up above you." Kai says, making another good point. "Ehh, it's only the second floor. I think I can manage." I answer, making my final decision. Devin's been so caught up in graduation, I haven't really been able to talk to him about this. All in all, I hope he still visits. "Great choice! We can head back to the office and I'll take this one off the vacant list, while you fill out some paperwork." The leasing agent says. I can't believe I'm doing this. "You a big girl now." Ella says. That's a scary thought.

The crew and I pile into two cars, as we head back to school, for Devin and Dayquan's graduation. We wouldn't miss it for the world. "We bout to act up in this bitch!" Jaydah says, going hard for her man. It hasn't been an easy road, for Dayquan, but he did it. We're all proud. "Then the next lituation is Charity's house warming." She adds. "All the way next year. It's not going to be fully furnished in a few weeks." I say. It's mid December now, and I'm sure my place won't be completely ready, before February. "Ugh, fine. At least we need to do something, for New Years." "Yea we coming to y'all place." Zora says. Jaydah and Lilah can't ever separate, so they moved in together, after graduation. "I'm down." Lilah says. 

Once we get to school, we meet up with Warren and Jeremy. We got here so early, the graduates are still walking in. We wanted to make sure we got good seats. We going in, for our boys. As we scope the building, I see Jasmine, to my surprise. She's with Zay. Damn, I haven't told her about Marcus. She sees me and smiles, a little. "Hey, what are you doing here?" I ask. "Zay's little cousin is graduating." She answers. I so badly want to blurt out what Kai told me. "Oh that's nice! Two of my best friends are graduating." Then it grows silent. The awkward silence. "Charity, I'm fine. It's not your fault. If he didn't hit me then, he was just going to do it, later." Jasmine says. "Yea but later, wouldn't have been my fault. I shouldn't have called you." I never forgave myself for that. "Well he's in jail and she's divorcing him Neither one of y'all have to worry about him, anymore." Zay chimes in. "About that." I say softly. "Don't tell me you're talking to him again." Jasmine shouts. "No, not like that. I mean he calls a lot but I only answered once." "Why? He ain't shit!" "He's getting out soon and he says he knows about Zay. He always has." I blurt out. 

Jasmine's face turns as pale as her light skinned face could. "What do you mean he always knew?" Jasmine asks. "He told me he's known for years. Didn't you say you met Zay AFTER you found out Marcus was cheating?" I ask. Jasmine is frozen. She definitely lied. "I met him a couple years ago." Jasmine sighs. "Why did you make it seem like you cheated after him? He had a private investigator. He has proof!" At this point, I'm freaking out. Although I can't believe she did that, I can't judge her, knowing I cheated on Devin. It's just going to make her case a lot harder. She's going to lose. "Damn, Jas. This is not good. We don't know what he saw." Zay says. "Vanessa can't find out about this." "Who is Vanessa?" I ask. Zay just shakes his. "Were you cheating too?" I ask. The way they look, gave me all I needed to know. "Damn." I hear Jaydah say, in the background. Why can't anyone, including myself,  be faithful?!! I know for sure, the next man I date, I'm doing right by him.  

I return to my crew and we find some seats, close to the stage. "That is going to be one hell of a situation. You better make sure they keep it out of the news. I don't know if Mr. Lewis is going to give you another chance." Lilah says, making a point. Shit. Now, that's all I can think about. By the time they get ready to call Devin's name, I realize I hadn't been paying attention. I just officially started working for Mr. Lewis last month and I'd hate for it to all be thrown away, because of Marcus. "Devin Maurice James" The announcer says. I let all my worries go and cheer for my best friend. I really am proud of him. Warren and other members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., said their lil chants.

After the entire ceremony, we wait for the boys, outside. There are hella Alphas waiting for Devin and a few other brothers, to come out. Devin comes out and hugs all of his family, first. He daps up most of his boys and then locks eyes one me. "Thank you, for continuing to support me, through this journey. It means a lot to me," he says, before kissing my forehead. I love when he does that. "I always will." I answer. He winks at me, before going back to his brothers, for their song and chant. It's beautiful to have a brotherhood like that, with people who aren't family. It makes me think back to the time we met Devin and Warren, at that one step show. Someway somehow, I caught Devin's eye. Soon after, Warren was eyeing down Zora. I love that she gave him the chance. I just wish I didn't ruin mine.
