After the meeting, we were all grouped with a few secondaries and an executive. To no surprise, Kai ended up being my exec. I almost think he's doing it on purpose. "So today and tomorrow, we're strictly going over the dos and don'ts, of Lewis Masterworks." Kai says. "I'm talking customer service, appearance, editing, logos, social media representation, everything." Everyone is attentive. "I think we're all pretty young in here, so let's talk social media, first. What we did on your application, was ask for your social media accounts. Some of you were private and some weren't. If you're going to be working here, the account you showcase your work must be public. It doesn't have to be 100% of your work but even your personal pictures need to be appropriate. Let's look at some. Do not be offended by this. We were able to look past certain things and some, we're going to ask you to take down. At least we're asking and not counting you out completely."
We go through a few dos. When my name pops up, my heart drops. "I'm not sure what they thought of my IG. "See this picture here? Clearly Ms. West went all out, for her birthday and Spring Break. What you don't see is her revealing anything too sexual." Kai continues. "What about that bathing suit picture?" Tory asks, making everybody laugh. "Tory, hush. Always starting something." Kai laughs. "That picture is still tasteful." Kai states. "Thank you." I laugh nervously and eye Tory. He laughs. I can see he was a class clown. "Now let's look at some don'ts. Before I do this, if you fully read your contracts, we included this part of training in it." Kai states. He pulls up an IG of the girl sitting next to me. "Oh my God." She silently groans. "Now, Ms. Armstrong, THIS bathing suit picture is not appropriate, for a page showcasing Lewis Masterworks. IF this would be the page you use for work, you'd have to delete this." Everyone stares at the picture of her sitting in the sand, at the beach, licking an ice cream cone really sexually. "Not gonna lie, though. You look good." I whisper to her. "Thanks." She smiles and whispers back. "I definitely would make another page." She laughs nervously. "Good deal. Good deal. Nothing wrong with the pic, just to be clear. Just not appropriate for work. Everyone understand?" Kai asks. Everyone agrees.
***SIX MONTHS LATER***
Today's the day we finally find out if we're official Lewis Masterworkers. That's what they call themselves. We've taken some small quizzes and a few tests, over the past few months. I've finally been in my element, so I've been passing with flying colors. I did better on these tests, than in school. Two executives are calling in people one at a time. They've called about 3 people each, by now. We won't know who made it, until work Monday, obviously if we're here. "Charity." Kai pokes his head in the lobby. I follow him, into his office, barely breathing. Although I passed all the tests, it doesn't mean my work improved enough, for Mr. Lewis. "I want to thank you, for allowing me throw this at you, while looking for candy." Kai starts. "It's been a pleasure getting to know you and your work." Damn, they're not choosing me. No one says that like that, unless they're letting you go. My heart basically stops.
"I hope that I can continue getting to know your work." Kai flashes a sly smile. "Welcome to Masterworks!" "Are you serious right now?!" I basically yell. "Yes ma'am. Here's your new contract, to look over, this weekend. Your first official day is Monday and your first event will probably be this annual Thanksgiving party one of his friends throw." "Oh my God. I can't believe this. I work for Jamie Lewis.""You work for Jamie Lewis." "Thank you so much for interrupting my thoughts that day." "Yea you looked pretty zoned out." He laughs. "Yea. I just had been through so much, my last year of school. I just couldn't believe it was over." I say sadly. Marcus still calls every now and then. Sometimes I almost answer. He only got a few years because she didn't have proof of consistent abuse. Everyone says he'll be out in no time, for good behavior. Hopefully by then, he's changed.
After the meeting, I was released early. Instead of calling my parents, I drove straight to one of my dad's properties. My mom is helping design the lobby, today. I park right next to my mom's car and head straight in. They officially open, on Monday, so it's been hectic, in here. "Hey, baby, what you doing here?" My dad asks, when he sees me. "I just wanted to see you and ma in action." I lie. "She should be coming back, from the bathroom, soon. But while you're here, let me show you around the office." I playfully roll my eyes. He shows me the manager's office, the break room, and the amenities, nearby. We head back, to the lobby and see my mom. "Girl, where'd you come from?" She asks. "Daddy was just showing me around. But that's not why I'm here." I smile. "You got the job didn't you?" My mom asks, excitedly. "I did!" My mom rushes to hug me. "Damn, Chy, can I hug her too?" My dad laughs. "I'm so proud of you baby." My dad says, as he finally gets to hug me. "Now, you can move out." He jokes. But in all honesty, I now feel comfortable doing so.
