I wake up in what's obviously a hospital. I can't even believe this, right now. I look around and see Devin, sitting across from me. My eyes widen, when he notices I'm awake. "Hey, hey. Don't do too much," he says, as I try sitting up. "What happened?" I ask. "You stopped breathing, for 63 seconds. "What?" I almost yell. I can only hold my breath for about 30 seconds max. "Yea. You scared all of us. And then they saw a bruise, on your arm. What happened?" Devin asked. I don't want to lie to him, anymore. "Marcus showed up, at my dorm." I say sadly. I can tell he starts to get angry. "Yea, I saw that." "I didn't invite him. I was on my way to Zora's and he just showed up. He got mad, when I told him to leave." "What did he do?" "He literally grabbed me up and brought me back inside. He wouldn't let me go and when he finally did, he threw me down. I hit my arm, on the living room table." I know I should've said something. Devin starts pacing back and forth. "Why didn't you say anything?" "I just wanted to be alone and get past it. He kept apologizing afterwards and I just wanted to forget about it."

The doctor comes in, to check on me. I let out a sigh of relief because I definitely don't want to keep having this conversation. "Your parents are here, now. We'll be running some more tests now, so I'll send them in, after the tests." Dr. Jones says. "Okay." I answer. A nurse escorts an angry Devin out of the room. "I'm sorry to lie." Dr. Jones starts. "We just have some questions." A police officer comes into the room. "What's going on?" I ask. "Ms. West, is there anything going on, in your life that would cause this panic attack and this bruise?" The officer asks, pointing to my bruised arm. I don't want Marcus to get in trouble because I really think he's sorry. "I'm sorry. I've just been stressing about midterms and a breakup. Finals are coming up soon." I half lie. "Ma'am, did that man hurt you?" He asks, referring to Devin. "Oh my God, no. He'd never hurt me." "Ma'am we just want to help." "He didn't hurt me. He never will." I say angrily. He doesn't believe me. "Well take my card. If you remember anything you want to tell me, give me a call." He hands me a card. Officer Collins.

I finally got Devin to leave my dorm. He stayed with me, for a couple of days. He doesn't want me alone, for the weekend, so he's coming back, tomorrow, to stay for the weekend. Amara didn't complain, because she's also worried about me. I'm scrolling through Instagram, when I get a call from an unsaved number. Please don't let it be Marcus. "Hello, may I speak to Charity?" The man asks. "This is she." I answer. "Hey! This is officer Collins. I wanted to give you a heads up, we're almost there, to you. We have a few more questions, now that we've spoken to some witnesses. Stay put." He says and hangs up. Shit!

I quickly put on some real clothes and walk as fast as I can to the door. Damn it. A police car pulls up and I see Alexander get out, with another officer. I reluctantly open the door. "How you feeling, Ms. West?" Alexander asks. "I'm okay. Definitely could be better." "I can understand that. We just have a few more questions. A few bystanders have said that they've seen you and a Devin James arguing a few times. Is this true?" He asks. Here he goes, with this bullshit. "Devin barely raises his voice at me. Who is telling you this?" "We can't give that away but we need you to tell us the truth. Did Devin hurt you?" "For the last time, no. Devin did not and will not ever hurt me." "We see this all the time, where the woman protects an abusive boyfriend. They only end up getting hurt, or worse." The other officer says. "Whoever is putting this in your head, is wrong." "We saw how angry he was at the hospital." Officer Collins says. I can't even deny that. "He was just upset that I was hurt. He wasn't mad at me or hurt me. Please. I really just want to rest." "Okay, Ms. West but please know that this isn't over. We will return, if any other questions arise." And with that, they leave.

I don't even believe this right now. Who the hell would put Devin into this? Before I can call him, to warn him that they may question him, I get another phone call. "Hello?" I answer. "Are you alone?" A woman asks. "Who is this?" I ask. "Are you alone?" She repeats. "Who. Is. This?" I repeat. "Jasmine, damn. I can't talk long. Are you alone?" "Yes, how did you get my number?" "The same way I knew you were messing with my man but that's beside the point." "What do you want?" I'm already annoyed from everything else going on. "Be careful who you talk to about Marcus." "Wait, why?" "He has people in the police force. They may not be trying to help...oop gotta go." She hangs up. "Jasmine wait." What is really going on?

I open up Facebook and find Marcus. I should have done more digging on him but I guess I didn't care. I look through his friends, for an Alexander Collins. My heart drops, when I see his name. They're friends! What if Marcus is the one putting Devin's name in this? I have to call Devin. I call him but he doesn't answer. I call Warren. "Aye, Charity I'ma have to call you back. They came and took Devin to jail." He says, freaking out. "What?!" I yell. I hang up and call Zora. "Zora come with me to the police station. They got Devin." "Shit, I'm on my way."
