Housewarming Party

Since Christmas, I've been on edge. I haven't gotten one call, from Marcus, over the past month and a half. I haven't heard from Jasmine either. I wonder if they decided to work things out. Hell, abused women normally have a hard time leaving their abuser, for good. But speak of the devil. Marcus' name pops up on my screen. He's really out. This time I answer. "Hello?" "Hey, Charity." I hear his voice. "I see you're out, now." "Yep. I'm a free man. I'll be even freer by the end of this year." "What do you mean?" "Ever since I got out, we started the divorce process. She started it but it's not working in her favor. You know I got my proof." "Wow," is all I could say. "I know I don't still have a chance with you but I want to do right by you." "No, Marcus. It's fine. It's been months and you've apologized enough." "I guess. So you still at home? I'd love to see you." "I don't think that's a good idea. Plus, I moved out." He sighs. "So I can't see you?" Here he goes. "Marcus, let's just move on, okay? Find someone who will be faithful to you and just try working on your anger." "I did, Charity, in jail!" He yells. "Marcus!" "Sorry. I just didn't expect this." "Well I didn't expect all of this either but here we are." "Alright. Well I don't think they'll call you in, since I already gave them proof that she cheated first. No need for her to use you as an excuse. I was hoping to see you." "Take care of yourself, Marcus." I hang up the phone and look at a sympathetic Kai. He made me block him, after. It's for the best.

I finally have all my furniture and decor, so it's only right I threw a party. Ella and Zora has been here all day, helping me set up. Kai's on the way, with his liquor contribution. I invited him and Tiara, since I'm closer to them at work. Tory was never the same, after I got the Christmas Party event. I'm sure he'd be pissed to know I made over $1,000 for it, plus the $1,000 bonus Jamie gave us. I mean I'm glad my parents are wealthy enough, to support me but I'm even happier than I found a job, where I can support myself and then some. I can make anywhere from $2,500 to $6,000 a month. The best months are December, February  and anytime in the summer. People have all kinds of events in the summer, they want to have recorded or photographed. Plus Jamie is so known, it's hard to go one week without at least two events. I could never get tired of it.

Kai walks in, with two bottles of liquor and mixes, to add to the mix. "Kai, this is Ella and Zora." I introduce them. "Nice to meet you beautiful ladies." Kai smiles a little too hard. "Two TAKEN ladies."  I emphasize. "That's fine. That's not who I have my eye on." He winks and walks into the kitchen. I know he's not talking about me. Why would he want me, a cheater? Both Ella and Zora silently cheer. Zora mouths "I told you." I roll my eyes and continue setting up. I've put most of the food on burners and drinks on ice. I got some cute drink dispensers from Walmart. At this point, they should sponsor me.

6PM rolls around and everyone's finally here. I've let them eat and then I being opening gifts. As I'm opening gifts, I realize how grateful I am to have made it through the past year and a half. These people stuck by my side through it all. My parents never gave up on me. My friends supported me. My new friends aren't judging me and I have my dream job. I start tearing up. "It's just wine." Kai says, making everyone laugh as I open his gift. It's my favorite wine and two bottles of it.  "I know."  I laugh. "I'm just so thankful for everyone in here." "Sap!" Jaydah yells. "Shut up!" I throw a couch pillow at her. "I really am. Thank you all, for everything. This means so much to me. You don't even understand." My mom comes and hugs me, as I continue to cry. 

Once I finish opening the gifts, my parents decide to head back home. It's getting late and the real party should be staring soon. I made sure to let everyone know that at 11, we gotta quiet down. I have neighbors now. "Your friends and family love you." Kai walks over to me, in the kitchen. I eye all of my gifts and practically drool over the air fryer Devin got me. "They do." I smile. "I hope you let me get to that point someday." Kai says. As soon as he says it, his eyes widen and he tries to take it back. "Sorry, I definitely didn't mean to say that out loud. Oh my God." He's freaking out. "Kai, it's okay," I whisper. Devin, Dayquan and Jeremy are in the living room and I'd hate for them to hear this. "I'm just surprised." "Why? I buy you lunch all the time. I practically begged you to move out here. I've made it my business to work events, with you. My uncle has been ready to move me to his corporate office part time but I wanted to be at the office with you." His words make me smile way too hard. It's been so long since I've been with Devin and Kai's fine. He's tall, dark and handsome, just like I like him. He's been so nice to me, I was telling myself it was just his nature. Whole time he wanted me. 

"Valentine's Day is next week. I need you to be my Valentine." He pulls out a cute little Valentine's Day card, customized with a picture we took together, after one of the events during training. "I'd love to." I smile and give him a hug. "I'll save a better hug and a kiss, for later. I know you don't want anyone asking questions right now and quite frankly neither do I." We both laugh. I can't believe I'm this lucky. As he walks out, Zora walks in. "What y'all talking bout?" She asks. "He asked me to be his Valentine." I whisper. Zora covers her mouth, as she tries not to scream. She loved Devin for me, but she knew Kai was just as good. "I know you don't think so but you deserve it. It's clear that Devin isn't willing to get back with you so it shouldn't be an issue, going forward." "Thanks, Z. I love you girl." "Til the wheels fall off." She daps me up...

As always, I am unsure if I should do a sequel or not. Let me know if I should do a sequel showing how Marcus and Jasmine's divorce plays out, how Devin takes Charity getting into a new relationship and how the Masterworkers feel about it.
