Colby and I drove to Indiana to meet with many of the other superstars. I was already on my way to becoming part of the NXT roster and I was really nervous about everything hitting me all at once.
"Everything alright, babe?" He asked.
"Yeah." I said, sighing. "I'm just nervous about all of this."
"Hey, don't be. I can reassure you that everything will work out just fine. Trust me on this, Katherine." Colby said, reassuring me with his arms embraced around me and a small kiss planted on my forehead.
"Alright, Colby." I smiled while we pulled into the parking lot and made our way into the arena.
Making it to the arena, I walked hand-in-hand with Colby as everyone's eyes were on us like they had seen a ghost.
"What's with the looks, girls?" Colby said, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"Um, who is she?" A woman said with long, blonde hair with a blue and gold wrestling outfit on her body.
"My girlfriend, Katherine." He said with a smile.
"Isn't she a little..." She paused, "You know, too different for you, Colby? You could do so much better."
I gave this girl a smug look and was itching for a fight until I felt Colby's hand intertwined with mine.
"Summer, if you don't shut the hell up, I'll-" Colby said, defending me.
"You'll what?"
Colby paused for a second and walked away with me.
"You know what? Nevermind. You're not worth my time or Katherine's! Let's go, babe."
We walked away from half of the locker-room as everyone stayed silent, looking over at Summer.
After that awkward altercation, Colby and I went to find Joe until we bumped into our boss, Vince McMahon.
"Colby and Katie!" Vince said, excited.
"Hey man, nice to see you again. Been awhile, huh?" Colby said, hugging his boss.
"It really has although we seen each other just a few weeks ago."
"Right, right."
"Hello sir, it's nice to meet you." I said, introducing myself.
"Nice to meet you too, Katie."
Silence filled the room for a few moments until Vince broke the silence.
"Are you excited to work for WWE?" He asked.
"I'm thrilled! It's just a little nerve wracking to be honest with you, Vince."
"I understand things sound scary at first but you're WWE superstar material, Katie. I see so much potential in you and I believe that you'll do just well in this business."
"Also, you're being trained by the man who was the first ever Inaugural NXT Champion back a few years ago." Colby said, butting into the small conversation between Vince and I.
"Which is a relief." I chuckled.
"I'm gonna let you kids enjoy the rest of your day. Have a good day!"
"Thank you, sir!" Colby and I said in sync.
After Vince left, I remembered that small altercation between that one woman and I back when I was about to meet the other women who worked for the main roster. I stood next to Colby and couldn't help but to remain silent.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Colby asked.
"It's nothing."
"Katherine, talk to me."
I eventually gave in after he kept gazing into my eyes with worry on his face and his smile fading after noticing something wasn't right with me when our boss left the room.
Letting a small sigh escape from my mouth, I looked up at Colby. "Remember that one girl that was snubbing me, saying that you could do much better?"
"Oh, you mean Summer Rae?"
"Summer?" I said in suspicion, "Do you know her personally, Colby?" I asked.
"No. She's just another colleague of mine." He said, keeping eye contact with me. "Summer is just another woman who works here. We've never really talked because I've been busy with my singles career after splitting up with The Shield between Jon, Joe and I last year. Summer's always been the woman to cause drama between her and the others. I wouldn't pay it any attention, princess."
"Oh, okay."
"Hey, let's get rested for the day." He said with a smile.
An hour later, we arrived to the local hotel and checked ourselves into our room. Growing up, I was used to being bullied by other women. I always wanted to avoid trouble and when I worked over at the O'Charley's, I never had trouble out of my customers. Thankfully, if wrestling never worked out for me, I was able to return to my previous job. For now, just focusing on wrestling is for the best.
Colby was bringing our luggage into the room as I sat down on the bed and ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. I started overthinking about how this was a huge change in my life from leaving home and my best friend behind to pursue a career in wrestling.
"Katherine, I'm sorry that-"
Everything began to hit me all at once when it came to me leaving Brianna behind along with the job I've worked at for years. Becoming a professional wrestler at such a fast rate and beginning to travel with my boyfriend and our friends was also another huge step in my life. I started to break in front of Colby without realizing. He ran over to the bed and pulled me into a hug, not understanding what was going on.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Colby said, panicking and trying his best to comfort me. "Katherine, baby, what's going on?"
"All of this change is hitting me at once." I said, with my voice cracking.
"I understand babe. I'm here for you, alright?" He said, pulling me closer into his arms.
"I don't think I can do this wrestling career, Colby."
"I understand that this is a huge change for you babe. With you leaving Cali to come travel with me and the boys all the time. I promise that the boys and I will always have your back and make sure that you're okay at all times."
"Thank you. I just don't know how to process all of this at once. What if I never end up succeeding like all of you and make my way from NXT to either Raw or SmackDown in the future?"
"Katherine, calm down. We're all scared at first when it comes to huge changes, but I'm here for you every step of the way." He said, pressing his lips against mine.
"How am I gonna tell Brianna?"
"You didn't tell her that you left?"
"No, I was afraid she'd stop being my friend and think I'd rather be with you than her."
"She wouldn't think that. Call her up and tell her the news."
"If you insist."
I dialled Brianna's number and she finally picked up after seconds of waiting.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Bri."
"Hey girl, where are you? I've been looking everywhere for your ass!"
"I, um, left California."
"You left? Why?" She said, upset.
"Well, I don't know if you're gonna be either mad at me or excited but because I'm with Colby, Hunter, along with his wife and father-in-law wanted me to join the business for a love storyline between Colby and I."
"Shut up! Really?" She said, excited.
"I'm not joking, Bri."
"She's really not." Colby interrupted.
"Hi Colby!"
"Hey." He started laughing.
"Bri, I cannot stress this enough but please take care of Winston for me."
"You know I'm gonna take care of him! Winston is in good hands with me, I promise!"
"I appreciate it. Just expect to see me in the ring with Colby when it comes to this crazy storyline that Vince has planned."
"Ha-Ha. I can tell it's nerve wracking, huh?"
"It really is but I have to get off of here for the night."
"Alright, please take care of yourself out there."
"I will!" I said, hanging up the phone.
"That wasn't so hard, was it?" Colby said, cackling.
"Shut up." I laughed.
After hanging up with Brianna, Colby and I relaxed until it was time to get some rest before tomorrow. I was about to meet up with the women that I wasn't able to talk to before because of Summer.
