I woke up to someone shaking me. I looked down and smiled at Cassie asleep in my arms. Jax was standing above me saying something.
"Shh!" I hissed. He just shook his head.
"What the hell, man?! What happened?" I sighed.
"She doesn't want me to tell you."
"Are you serious?! Just fucking spit it out! Sh...shes not in the best place right now."
"I know. She showed me. You know we used to be really close, right? She trusts me, Jax." He sighed.
"I just... I have to protect her." He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "She's definitely asleep?"
"Yep."
"I think...I...uh...i think I'm falling for her, Jes." When he said that I just wanted to scream. He was one of my best friends, but I loved Cassidy. She was my Cassie. She always had been. Even seeing her with Kellin hurt. They were always together those two. I knew she liked Kellin. She had told me, when he started going out with Ana. I didn't know what to say. I'd had a massive crush on her forever. Seeing her so broken killed me. I knew something had happened to her. This time last year she was fine, but suddenly she disappeared. She didn't come to school for weeks. I went to her house and it always saw her on the other side, but she never opened it. I texted her, called her, skyped her, everything. She did start coming back to school, but she wouldn't talk to anyone. Her friends tried to get to her but nothing worked. She started hanging around us again, but I think Kellin asked her too. One day Kellin stopped talking to her. He said it had something to do with Ana. Every time I would ask about it he would tell me to shut up and forget about her. It hurt. A lot. I wanted to do something, but she just forgot about us. So I blocked her out. She got worse and everyone started calling her mute. She turned up with bruises a lot as well, but she had always been clumsy, so I never thought to ask.
"So did I, Jax."
"Y...you did?"
"I still am." I sighed. "I don't know what happened to her but.... It killed me to see her like that and it kills me to see her like this now."
"Damn I'm sorry, man. I didn't know. She's been through a lot of shit. She's not the same person she was before."
"Please tell me. I'm sure she will. I was gonna ask her anyway." I pleaded. I wanted to help. I had to. She was my baby girl. She always had been.
So he told me. By the end of it I was crying my eyes out and hugging her tighter to me. Jax gave me a sympathetic look, before leaving, saying he would call us for dinner. I whispered to her, "You're the strongest person I know, baby girl." She stirred and woke up suddenly, panting. "What's wrong, Cassie?"
"I...i...they, never mind."
"Hey," I lifted her head lightly so she was looking at me, "what happened? You can tell me, baby girl. I'm here now, and I refuse to leave you again." I pulled her close and whispered in her ear,"Jax told me what happened, and I can't believe what I did to you, after all that you went through. I'm so sorry, honey." She crashed into my chest and sobbed. I held her tighter and was afraid to let go. Tears fell down my cheeks, but they were silent. I had to stay strong for her.
"I trust you, Jesse. Please don't hurt me. K...kellin d...did." She buried her head into my chest again.
"I won't. I promise Cassie. I'll protect you. You mean the world to me baby girl." I thought about how much of an asshole Kellin had been to her recently."Wait. Does he know everything?"
"O...only the h...harming." Wait, he turned the heat up.
"What a dick! Urgh! I can't believe him! That stupid heat joke an he knew! Who trashed your room then?"
"Anabel and Daphne."
"Those bitches." I heard her laugh lightly and this made me smile. "Stick with me, Cassie. I'll make you laugh more than he ever could." I kissed the top of her head, and we lay like that, her in my lap with my arms wrapped around her, and her head on my chest. She was a little broken angel. I heard the door open to see the person I least wanted to see. Ok, second least. The first was definitely Max.
"Kellin, what do you want?"
"Jax told me to bring these pills up for her."
"Thanks. By the way we don't need your help." I said coldly. I put Cassie down, and grabbed the pills from his hand." Go fuck of back down to your girlfriend and leave her alone."
"Wtf man?! Jax said that to me as well. She's my friend too, you know."
"No she's not. This is between her and you, not me and you, so go now, ok? I'm looking after her now, so leave her alone." I softened, realising that I was being a bit harsh. He sighed.
"I...i want to help." He whispered.
"Look, Kel. I know you care, but she's been through shit and you've just been hurting her. Whether or not it was intentional or not, I don't know, but she's so fragile at the moment, and she cares about you. She trusted you. And you know she finds it hard to trust people, Kel. I'm sorry. Just keep your distance for now, ok? Josh and Mike will look after her when we're not here." He looked down at his feet, guiltily and nodded before leaving.
"Dinner's almost ready by the way."
"Ok, thank you." He left. I gently shook Cassie awake. "Hey, baby. Wake up." I whispered to her.
"J...Jesse?"
"Yeah, it's me." She moved off my lap, and to the other side of the bed, but gasped and was about to fall backwards off, but I caught her. "Cassie! It hurts, doesn't it?" She nodded and I pulled my bottle of water out from under the bed. "Here." I handed her the water and the pills. "Swallow." She did and sighed before leaning back onto the pillows. I got up and pulled out a t-shirt from my bag, and threw it to her. "Dinner's almost ready. Put this on." I threw the shirt in her direction and turned to face the door while she changed. She always hated staying in the same clothes that she fell asleep in. She said it made her feel sleepy, and I had always laughed at that.
"Thank you, Jes."
"No problem honey." I lifted her off the bed and carried her to her room." Are your crutches in here?"
"Yeah." She whispered. I knew she was scared in case Max turned up, but he wasn't going to hurt her anymore.
"He's not gonna lay a finger on you, baby." I purred in her ear and she instantly relaxed against me. I knew her well, and that was why she trusted me. I gave her a crutch and we went downstairs. I saw max sitting at the table talking to Kel and Jax. I just wanted to go up to him and punch the smirk off his face when he saw my little Cassie.
"Fuck off mate." I muttered and heard a, "what's his problem" from Jax or Kellin. I sat down next to Cassidy and we ate dinner. I noticed that Cassidy didn't eat, though. I was definitely going to talk to her about that. What do you guys think?
