December 2017

"Aw, shit. Here we go again...", Namjoon sighs, standing in front of Moonhae's door.

The boys somehow convinced him that it would be a good idea for him to talk to her and maybe get her back on the right track. Moonhae had shown up to their Christmas dinner, although her face was still slightly swollen, she tried her best to cover up with makeup and didn't speak a word about what happened to anyone. Now, with three days until New Year's Eve, Namjoon thought he should at least try to patch things up with her, their relationship being bumpy from the start.

The door opens slowly at the sound of his knocking and pretty little Moonhae appears in the doorway.

"Namjoon?", her expression carries somewhat distaste.

"Hi, can I come in?", he almost feels nervous.

Reluctantly, she moves aside so he can enter. He struts over towards her bed and rests on the edge.

"Really? You have to sit on my bed?"

"Where else do you want me to sit? The floor?"

"Preferably, yes", she crosses her arms, looking down upon him.

With that, he leans back on her bed, spreading himself out further to get on her nerves. It's working. Her eyes grow even more narrow.

"What do you want, Namjoon?", she sighs annoyedly.

"I actually wanted to make amends."

"Ok, then. What would you like to apologize for first?"

"Actually, I changed my mind", he gets up from the bed and starts moving towards the exit.

"Good, I didn't want to listen to your bullshit anyway."

"There you go again!", he whips around, "How can anyone respect you when you're like this?"

There's hurt in her eyes and this time she doesn't cover it up with anger.

"No, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way", Namjoon realizes his mistake, "I actually wanted to talk to you about that... You deserve to be respected. So why... Why are you with him, Moon?"

She's baffled by his directness, but of course he would talk to her like this.

"I love him", she doesn't falter.

"I know you do, because I know how you fall in love with people. And I'm telling you it's stupid. You always find the worst people and then cling to them", he lectures.

"Are you talking about Kai?", Moon remembers her past boyfriend from their friend group all those years ago.

"Yes. I mean how horrible was he? If he's not well into the drug scene right now, I don't know who is", Namjoon shakes his head.

"Yeah, he was pretty horrible", she agrees, "But he had his sweet moments..."

"That right there is your problem", he sighs.

"What?"

"Why do you settle for sweet moments? If someone only has kind moments and is horrible to you all the other times, how on earth can you be with a person like that? There are so many other great people that would treat you well all the time. Why would you settle for anything less?"

"There's no such thing, Namjoon. You're getting at all that true love bullshit", she waves him off, "Hell, remember my parents were head over heels in love and look how that marriage turned to shit. People can't treat others well all the time in a relationship."
