Virgil sat down in his seat next to Remy. Remus and Deceit always sat next to each other, despite how Virgil and Deceit were the ones who were dating. This was only because Remy was stupid- I mean, needed help a lot. This left Remy to have to endure Virgil trying to keep him awake, but at least Virgil helped in practical lessons. Of course, sometimes they'd have lessons with Hufflepuff and/or Ravenclaws, where they'd all be more separated. Deceit and Remus still sat together, though.

"Good morning, class!" The 'pink toad', as many phrased it, entered the class. Her voice was high pitched and girly, and she was obviously acting as if addressing a bunch of nursery (British Kindergarten, to those who might not be sure) children. No response. "When I say good morning, you will reply with: Good morning Professor Umbridge. Good morning, Class." Mumbles were heard across the room.

"Put your wands away, you will only need your books. Read chapter 1 of these." Immediately, Virgil's hand shot up. "Why would you ask a question so early?"

"Professor Umbridge, I do not mean to sound rude or impolite by saying this but, these books only cover first year spells, and nothing on practical lessons. How will we do the exams?" Virgil's voice wavered and he was quiet, but he was obviously trying to be confident. Many stared at the boy, and Malfoy was questioning whether something happened over summer that made him more confident. Umbridge opened her mouth to speak but, Virgil took no notice.

"Also, what if someone else tries to escape Azkaban to attack any of us after our school years? How will we save ourselves?" Virgil asked, stubbornly.

"Virgil Shard, correct?" Virgil nodded at the toad's question, "I have heard you were always very... paranoid. Do not worry, nobody will harm small students such as yourselves. Now can everybody go back to reading." She forced a smile.

"Ma'am, using his anxiety against him will not help. As a logical person who usually doesn't believe attacks will happen in a magical school, I still think we should learn to defend ourselves! Both O.W.L.s and person defence is important!" Hermione interrupted. Everyone stared at her, usually she doesn't misbehave, unless it's an adventure, and she wasn't a friend of Virgil so it was unlike her to defend his point.

"Please raise your hand before speaking in my class, Miss...?" Umbridge stopped to look at the bushy-haired muggle-born.

"Granger, Hermione Granger."

The rest of the class continued in argument.

"Mr. Potter and Mr. Shard, to my office, every evening this week!" Umbridge finally snapped.

"Why Virgil, Professor?" Deceit asked, defensively.

"He began this utter nonsense!" Umbridge replied, "class dismissed!"

"Wow, Virge, detention on the first DADA lesson?" Deceit teased.

"It's not my fault, Dee." Virgil defended. "And, I've got Ancient runes now, bye!" He walked off to his Ancient Runes class for his next class. He was first so he just sat down in his usual seat and began reading a book. Only a minute later, his classmate and usual table partner, Logan Woods, walked in.

"Salutations," the taller boy greeted.

"Hello, Woods." Despite being acquaintances for 5 years, they were quite formal. This was usually because he was a quite good friend of Roman, who was a Gryffindor and so they had very rare chances to speak. They had only really spoken in the first place because this class only had 1 Gryffindor student who wasn't a Ravenclaw or Slytherin and most other members of the others' house were not people who would respect Virgil's boundaries or let Logan read for the amount he'd wish to. The two often didn't get along with their own house, so they'd just sat next to each other.

Logan sat down next to Virgil and began reading himself. Soon, the teacher came, signalling the class had started.

After the lesson, Virgil and Logan waved their silent 'goodbye,' and then separated to go to their own common rooms.

Virgil walked into his common room to see Deceit and Remus weren't there but Remy was waiting, obviously bored, and drinking coffee.

"Where are Dee and Remus?" Virgil asked.

"They left immediately. Should we look for them?" Remy asked.

"Nah, you need to do your homework." Virgil stated.

"God help me." Remy muttered. Virgil smiled innocently. "Nevermind, your detention is nearing, so you should go."

Virgil then walked to pinkie's office and knocked on her door.

"Come in." She stated, in her girly voice. "Now, we must wait for the other child to come in so we can start this detention."

Soon enough, Harry Potter walked in and sat where Umbridge told him to.

"Potter, you must write 'I must not tell lies' on this parchment. Virgil Shard, you just write, 'I must not interrupt classes.'" Umbridge ordered. "You May use the quills and paper I have set out for you. I need to leave the office but, I expect you done by the time I'm back."

"So, Shard, you going to tell me Voldemort isn't back?" Potter assumed.

"Nah, I'm impartial in this. Personally, I do not get involved with these things." Virgil shrugged. "Being a Slytherin doesn't mean I have to hate you Gryffindors. Despite that, you're still a reckless guy who likes to needlessly save people."

"Okay then, Mr. Emo," Potter mumbled.

The two worked on their lines in peace, apart from a bit of wincing from Harry Potter but Virgil didn't seem to notice it cutting into his skin. Potter thought this was strange, but didn't question it.
