Deceit woke up to Remus' face close to his.

"What the hell?!?" He exclaimed, pushing him off.

"You weren't waking up!" Remus protested, laughing on the floor.

"You kinky rat." Deceit grumbled.

"K I N K Y . " Remus laughed.

That day was normal. Nothing was wrong. What did I mean by this and next chapter being angst? Oh, I w a s j u s t p r a n k i n g y o u , t h i s w i l l b e a w h o l e s o m e c h a p t e r

Deceit and Remus had been home alone since last evening. They thought Deceit's mother was at work. However, it had been over twenty four hours. Where was she?

Deceit grew frantic, pacing up and down the hall. Remus kept trying to comfort him, but it was impossible. They'd checked everywhere.

Except...

"The basement!" Deceit randomly spoke.

Remus raised his eyebrows.

"She could be in the basement. Come on, Remus! That's where she goes for playing the piano, it's very relaxing to watch!" Deceit urged.

They knocked on the door. No response. Deceit let out a large sigh and opened the metal barrier, the only thing hiding his mother from his sight.

His dead mother from his sight.

His dead, hanging mother from his sight.

Black.

Deceit's eyes snapped open as he recalled the earlier events. He saw Remus looking over at him, concerned.

"Please tell me that was a dream!" Deceit exclaimed, his breathing rugged.

Remus closed his eyes, a tear threatening to escape.

Deceit began to let out his tears as images of his dead mother hanging from the ceiling flooded into his mind.

"There was a note." Remus stated, holding out a piece of paper. "Should I read it for you?"

"Y- Yes, please..." Deceit breathed.

"Dear Deceit and Remus,
I'm so sorry I did this, but your father threatened to hurt you both if I didn't find a way to leave you.

You will find an address behind this, please go there.

Yours sincerely,
Selena Pierce

"Come on, Remus. We need to pack to get there." Deceit instructed.

Remus nodded hastily, and rushed to the room he'd been given to pack.

The rest of the week was solemn. Nobody spoke much, unless they were asking about preparations. Deceit was grieving terribly. Meanwhile, Remus' emotions weren't clear. Remus was obviously repressing what he felt, but nobody noticed. He and Deceit weren't talking, and Deceit was too depressed to notice anything. Remus was fine with it. All day, he'd distract himself with the jobs needed and helping his boyfriend. No time for himself was left.

Finally, it was time. Remus had finally found where they needed to go, and the route they needed to take. It was quite far, but nothing could stop them from fulfilling Deceit's mother's wishes.

"Your parents won't know where you are, shouldn't you send a letter?" Deceit questioned.

Remus' determined expression turned blank. "If they send a letter asking, I'll write back. It's not like we won't be back at Hogwarts in a month."

Deceit glanced sympathetically at his boyfriend but didn't pester him. He didn't know how Remus was feeling about anything that was going on. He'd changed since Virgil left and even more so after the suicide, but Deceit couldn't name how. Nor could he name how Remus felt, because he obviously pushed it back.

Deceit then remembered Remy. Eventually, he'd begun to just hang out with Emile Picani. Deceit and Remus didn't mind it, but Deceit could've sworn Remus looked more anxious after that point.

Why hadn't Deceit noticed anything beforehand? Why hadn't Deceit realised Remus was hurting. The half - snake hugged his boyfriend.

Remus was shocked. Why so sudden? Tears began streaming down his face before he could stop them, and he felt the overwhelming urge to break out into laughter.

"Dee..." Remus whispered, pushing back his feelings.

"You damn idiot! How come you never say anything about how you feel?" Deceit scolded, though it was slightly muffled from Remus' shirt.

Remus froze, "I... What...?"

"It's obvious now, you're hurting. But I never realised, since I was just being selfish! Why didn't you tell me?" Deceit questioned, looking up at the taller duke.

"You weren't being selfish, you were in pain. And, we need to leave now. We'll talk later." Remus avoided the question.

"We better." Deceit hissed.

Remus quickly pecked Deceit's cheek, "I promise."

And so, their journey began.
