Natalie knew that there was something strange about to happen, she could feel it in the change of the atmosphere. Something wasn't right, something was going to come and change the world forever. She was convinced that it was a dream at first, but she then came to realise how wrong she was.

She woke up at her normal time, did the same morning routine as she has done for years, didn't really think anything of it. Until she went downstairs to see that the hall and a new paint covering, a covering of blood, smeared in a patch with a message reading "you need to escape. Now. Find £50 and take it to the nearest bus stop, you'll be safe then". She just giggled and shouted "nice one James, that's soooo original. Get up you'll be late for school!". She went back upstairs to find him still asleep but with his hands covered in 'blood', she sighed and went back downstairs so she isn't late either. Natalie walked into the kitchen and found a pink Llama post-it-note stuck to the fridge saying that her mum and dad will be gone for the week.

Her school was rather empty, much emptier than usual, but she just assumed that there was another climate strike going on. Luckily her friends were still there as they all had better things to do than stand outside holding a painted piece of cardboard and shouting. They'd prefer to actually have an education then they could help with it occupationally instead of waiting for someone to finally listen.

"Hey, guys! where the hell is everyone today? I've seen about 4 teachers and another 5 students excluding us... so in this entire building, there are 4 teachers and 15 students. At least it'll make teaching classes easier as there are only around 5 students per class." she rambled on

"James has been pulling stupid pranks on me again, but he's definitely going to get screamed at this time as he has stained the cream walls with fake blood and a god awful 'scary' message written in it"

"Wait, you had a message written on your wall? It didn't happen to mention having to bring £50 to the nearest bus stop did it?" Marley asked

"Erm yeah it did actually, I know for a fact that it was my brother as he was the only one in the house with me this morning and he had fake blood on his hands while he pretended to be asleep like he hadn't done anything," Natalie replied with a confused expression

"How strange, I had one of those too. I just assumed it was my brother Alfie that had done it, you know what he's like" Daniel added

The group of friends looked at each other with minimal expressions, then burst out laughing at the awkward silence that they had created - which wasn't like them at all.

"Guys if it was an apocalypse or something, Natalie would know exactly what to do, where to go and what we'd need to survive" Anna laughed

"Hey! Why me?! Don't trust me to have your lives under my protection otherwise, we'd all be dead" she giggled back

"Nat, you literally spent your entire summer binge-watching 'The Walking Dead' from season 1-7 when you've watched all the episodes at least twice. You'd be the one we'd come too, as farfetched as it sounds, you could use some of your zombie surviving knowledge to save us - whether it is based on an American TV show" said her boyfriend Callum with a cheeky grin

"They're called ' 'walkers'" Natalie muttered back as she knew that she would most likely be the only one in the group to survive a zombie apocalypse. As if on cue, all of their phones pinged at the same time which left the desolate hallways echoing the notification throughout the whole of the empty school. The notification read "Don't leave the house or any building on which you may find yourself in. If you are outside, find the nearest unlocked building and secure it - a virus has broken out in a nearby hospital and has caused many sudden deaths..." Again the group just looked at each other and laughed, except for Natalie. She genuinely believed the warning but acted like she didn't for the sake of her friends. All 4 of the teachers were nowhere to be seen, which raised alarm bells inside of Natalie's brain - that something was clearly not right and the warning may actually be true.
