Y/N had grown up with a rough life so far. His mom had left when he was young and his dad didn't care about him because of his stuttering. He still lived with his father but spent most of his time at Sam and Dean's house.
He walked into the house and dropped his overnight bag on the couch. The house was quiet, the rattling of the air conditioner was the only thing keeping it from being silent. It wasn't something new. Dean didn't get back from the mechanics until six o'clock, and Sam didn't get home until five from his law firm. A loud knock made Y/N turn his body to face the noise. He tilted his head and started to walk to the origin of the disturbance.
"Hello? Is is is anyone th there?" Y/N asked as he walked to the basement door. He opened it and saw the light on at the bottom of the steps. He stepped down the first few steps and heard another smaller noise. He frowned and continued farther. As he made his way down the stairs, he looked out into the open room. Finding nothing there, he grew more confused. A man turned the corner and pointed his pistol at Y/N. His first instinct was to put his hands up, and freak out.
"W woah, don't don't shoot m me." Before he could say another word, the man shot Y/N's leg, causing him to fall down from the pain. He cried out to Sam, to Dean, to even Gabriel, though he knew he was dead. He laid on the ground holding his leg, crying. The man that shot him grabbed the box from the storage room that held most of the Winchester's valuable things. He stepped over the crying boy and climbed the stairs. Y/N heard him exit the house and heard a car speed away.
He wished he had checked the time before coming down. He had no clue when anyone would be there. After calming himself down, he took off his top shirt to wrap around his lower leg. Once he was finished, he wiped the tears from his eyes and started to pull himself up the stairs. The trail of blood stained the carpeted steps as he made his way up. As he got to the top, he looked at the clock on the stove. Only twelve minutes until Sam should be home. He laid back on the hardwood floor, panting from exhaustion and blood loss.
After laying for a few minutes, he heard the rumble of the Impala Dean drove. It had been passed down to him by his father when he retired. Y/N looked up as he heard keys jingling and the door swinging open. Dean saw the kid's backpack and smiled to himself. He called out for him, only getting a moan in response.
"Dean," he called out with all his strength. Dean sat down his keys as he rushed into the hallway to see Y/N laying on the ground with his leg bleeding.
"Y/N! Buddy, what happened?" Dean kneeled next to him as he tried to figure out what to do. He grabbed his cellphone and started to call the emergency services.
"Robber," he said weakly. Dean noticed his hair was sticking to his forehead. He pushed Y/N's hair out of his face and felt the heat radiating off of him. He looked at him with worry as the dispatcher answered the phone call. As Dean told the dispatcher the situation, she gave him tips on how to keep Y/N awake while the ambulance arrived. He stayed on the phone with her until he heard the sirens.
As paramedics ran into the house, they loaded Y/N onto the gurney and took him out to the ambulance. Dean climbed on and called Sam as they sped to the hospital. They took him into an operation room to remove the bullet. Dean waited out in the room assigned to Y/N for post-op. Sam arrived and the brothers embraced each other, hoping the boy would be okay.
Sam and Dean made phone calls to those who needed to know what happened to the kid. They argued whether they should call his father or not, finally deciding it would be best. Jody arrived after hearing it come through the dispatch. When everyone arrived, Y/N was coming out of surgery. He was still asleep because of the anesthetic. Jody sat next to his bed and held his hand. Ever since his mother had left, she had been the closest thing he had. His father stood in the corner of the room, not interacting with the others. Sam and Dean sat next to each other, both by his side. Y/N's best friend, Eric couldn't come, but he had gotten a phone call from the brothers.
Y/N started to move, slightly squeezing Jody's hand. She looked up as he slowly opened his eyes, letting them adjust to the fluorescent lights of the hospital. He looked around and saw Sam and Dean to his right, Jody to his left. He felt relieved when he didn't see his father. He cleared his throat and made the boy look up at him.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Dean stood up as the boy's father walked toward him. He stood in front of the bed and blocked the man from touching Y/N.
"You're not putting this on him. Leave him alone or get out." The man stood toe to toe with Dean, neither backing down.
"You don't have the right to tell me how to talk to my child. You're not his father." Y/N shrunk in his bed and looked down at his leg, blaming himself for getting shot.
"He's only fifteen. You cannot blame him for that." Dean stepped closer to Y/N's father, making him back up.
Y/N heard a voice in his head, "Don't you dare blame yourself for this." He looked up and looked around the room, seeing Gabriel standing in the corner, leaning against the wall. Y/N gasped and pushed himself off the bed, not caring about the pain he was feeling in his leg. He ran to Gabriel and jumped at him, holding onto him tightly. He started to cry as he buried his head in Gabriel's shirt. Gabriel smiled and held him close, missing him over the time he was gone.
"Hey buddy," Gabriel whispered into Y/N's ear. He giggled and hugged Gabriel tighter.
"I th thought you were dead," he said back quietly. Gabriel nodded and walked over to the bed.
"I was, but Dad brought me back. I guess He knew we need each other." Y/N giggled as Gabriel sat down. He tried to move Y/N to sit next to him, but the teen did not want that. He leaned against Gabriel and continued to hug him. Gabriel moved his hand down to Y/N's leg and healed the gunshot. His leg felt better immediately. The boy looked up at Gabriel and smiled, the smile replicating itself on the archangel's face.
"Good. Now that he's fine, he's coming home with me." Y/N's father stepped forward and grabbed the boy's arm. He pulled him away from Gabriel and started to pull him out of the room. Gabriel stood up and went in front of them.
"You are not taking him anywhere. You're no father to him. He's coming with me." Y/N looked up at Gabriel.
"It it's fine Gabriel, I I'm okay." Gabriel looked down at Y/N and shook his head.
"No, you're not Y/N. I can see you're not. I don't know what's happened these past five years, but it's not okay, kiddo." Y/N's father pushed Gabriel away from Y/N, knocking him into the wall. Gabriel looked up at him with his jaw clenched. Y/N tried to reach out for him, but his father hit him in the side of the head. He fell to the ground and held his head. Sam and Dean rushed to his side as Gabriel's eyes began to glow. He looked down at Y/N and saw the fear in his eyes, not of the archangel but of his father.
"Close your eyes Y/N." He did as he was told and closed his eyes, the other three doing the same. Gabriel held up his hand and Y/N's father was gone. As Y/N opened his eyes, he looked over at Gabriel. Gabriel's eyes stopped glowing and he looked over to Y/N. He pushed himself up and reached towards Gabriel. Gabriel grabbed him and pulled him close.
"Where did he did he go?" Y/N asked. Gabriel grabbed the back of Y/N's head and pulled it to him.
"Somewhere he'll never be able to hurt you again." Y/N nodded and they forgot about the others in the room.
"Can I call you dad? I've always wanted to call someone that and mean it." Gabriel smiled.
"Of course you can kiddo." Y/N smiled and hugged Gabriel tighter. Gabriel looked up at the other adults in the room, mostly still shocked that Gabriel had killed him.
"I'm gonna take him home. If you guys need anything, you know how to reach me," he said with a small chuckle. Dean nodded as Gabriel left, taking Y/N with him. When they got to the house Gabriel owned, Y/N hugged him with all of his might. He had missed him a lot.
"I'll never leave you again, kid."
