Ch. 4 - Meeting the Team

Charlotte POV

We went to the house last night to grab what we wanted to keep, like our soccer gear, some clothes, and pictures of our mom. Hope said we didn't need to bring too much clothing because her and Kelley planned on buying some for us when we get back to their house in Washington. So after left our house, we grabbed some food before sneaking into the hotel. Hope said that the team was really excited to meet us and she didn't want us overwhelmed our first night with them.

It is now the next day meaning we meet the whole team. Hope said there was a team meeting where we are going to be formally introduced to the team and later tonight there is team bonding. We stayed with Hope and Kelley in their room, they took one bed while Liv and I were in the other bed.

Breakfast starts at 7am and since Liv and I were always used to being up early in order to make dad's breakfast and then sneak out, we are up unlike Kelley who is curled up into Hope, both asleep. "You ready to go Liv?" I ask her seeing as we are both dressed now. "Yep, let's head out."

We make our way downstairs and see we are the first ones down. Liv and I grab our food before finding a seat to eat. It's about 7:20 when Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd walk in, but they don't immediately notice us. Since we don't want to be noticed until the team meeting we go to sneak out, "Where ya going girls?" I hear Carli ask.

We slowly turn around before I say, "We didn't want to be down here when the whole team is since we are supposed to be meeting everyone at the meeting this morning." This causes Alex to chuckle, "We are having the meeting in here so you two didn't feel like we were putting you on the stage for some official team meeting. Come on, come sit back down and finish your food, which we are definitely getting you more of."

Liv turns to me and tries to quietly say, "Won't we get in trouble if we eat too much?" Unfortunately for Liv, she doesn't say it quiet enough because both Alex and Carli turn around with concerned looks on their faces. I pull Liv so our backs are away from the girls, "Liv, it's okay now, we can actually eat without getting into trouble," I try to whisper to her even though Alex and Carli can both probably hear our conversation.

Liv starts tearing up before saying, "I'm scared though Char." Sighing, I turn to look at the two who seem concerned now, "I'm going to take her outside to get some fresh air." They both nod before Alex asks, "Do you want one of us to go with you," shaking my head, I lead Liv outside to a bench in front of the hotel.

"Livie, we're safe now. Hope and Kelley will protect us. Hell, I'm sure most of the girls would protect us on that team. Especially Alex, Carli, Ashlyn, and Ali. You don't have to be scared like you were with dad." I try to reason with her.

"But Char, we don't even know the other girls, and we have only known Hope and Kelley for two days! We don't know anything about them! What if they're just like him?" She asks me while tears flood out of her eyes, so I pull into me.

"Hey, shh, they are nothing like him. They have shown us more love and kindness in the two days we have known them then dad ever did after mom died. We will be fine. Anyways, I will always protect you, like I always have or have tried to do. Alright?" She nods her head and hugs me closer.

"C'mon, dry those tears, we need to get back in there before they send out a search party." Liv laughs before standing up, "I love you Charlie." Smiling back at her before giving her another hug, "I love you too Livie."

As we make our way back inside, we see the whole team is in the breakfast room now, all looking concerned, but especially Hope and Kelley who look upset. Uh oh, this ought to be interesting.

Alex POV

Olivia seemed to be really upset when we questioned them about the food, I don't think she wanted us to hear her ask Charlotte about being allowed to eat that much, but we definitely did. Charlotte tries to muffle their voices by turning their backs to us, but both Carli and I heard her say that it was fine for them to eat now and Olivia said she was still scared. Why is she scared? I know they had an abusive father, but did he not let them eat?
