My alarm sounds and I wake knowing that today is the second day of school. I'm not sure if I should be thrilled or not. Every kid at that school seems so different form the ones back home.  Uncle Stewart isn't up yet, he got home late last night from the bar. I heard giggling and other super gross noises coming from his room so I'm in no hurry to wake him up.

The temperature feels unseasonably warm. Way to warm for jeans and I don't feel like wearing shorts, so I put on one of the few summer dresses I own. The dark green cheesecloth is loose fitting and I notice how the color really complements my eyes. Today I place my medication in my bag before curling my hair, letting it hang loosely over my shoulders. By the time I reach the kitchen Uncle Stew is already there cooking scrambled eggs. There is no sign of his lady friend.

"Morning."

"Morning, so how was your night last night?" I tease.

Uncle Stew chuckles sheepishly. "Sorry about that Lil." I'm pretty sure he is blushing.

"No worries." I shovel the eggs into my mouth they taste surprisingly good. For a man who lives off whiskey and pizza he sure knows how to cook. I take another mouthful.

"So Lil, you're looking nice today." He doesn't bother eating this morning. "By the way, I was thinking you might want to drive to school today, you've got your permit right?"

Excitement fills me. "Sure do."

He tosses me the keys. "Here you go."

The drive to school is an easy one with Uncle Stew as the navigator. There are only three traffic lights and a few turns to navigate. The car park is half full, Cayn along with his little gang are hanging out in the same corner they were yesterday. I choose not to park to close to them.

"See you later." I call out after I toss uncle Stew the keys. My bag is heavy with textbooks. Cayn runs up, catching me before I disappear inside. He is wearing light colored shorts with a lightweight green knit sweater which has the sleeves pushed up. I try not to notice the excitement on his face as he reaches me. My heart is pounding hard against my chest.

"I missed you yesterday. Did I scare you off?"

"No." I snap even though I don't mean too, he makes me nervous. "I just didn't want Uncle Stew to wait."

"Have I done something to piss you off? If so I'm sorry."

I watch as Cayn begins to walk away. The guilt is eating away at me; I really didn't mean to come off as a bitch. I grab his arm so that he stops. "It's not you, really. It was a long first day, that's all."

"Are you sure?" I can see the doubt in his face.

"Yeah, I'm sure." No I'm not but it's not like I'm going to admit that. Cayn grins, he looks handsome.

"Ok, cool. So I'll see you at lunch?" There is a sense of pleading in his voice. I don't understand why he cares.

"Wouldn't miss it." My smile is an uneasy one, the kind that lets a person know you want to be alone without having to say the words. Cayn must sense it, because he's already heading back to his friends. Quickly I pop a pill into my mouth. Soon I would be off my anti-anxiety meds, which was the plan at least. It was a daunting thought. Dark curious eyes catch mine. Levi is watching me. I raise my hand in acknowledgment, only to be meet with a hostile glare. It's hard to not flip him the bird. I shove the rest of my stuff into the locker.
