"I saw the weirdest thing today," Clary says to Isabelle as she walks into her room. Isabelle was sitting cross legged in her bed, reading a book but puts it down when Clary sits down beside her.

"I was on my way back from seeing Luke and I saw y/n and Simon together, just hanging out by the docks," she continues.

"Y/N and Simon?" Isabelle raises a brow, "Was it romantic?" she asks.

You and Simon were acquainted but neither of them could imagine a reason the two of you would be spending time together outside of the Institute.

"I couldn't tell, honestly," Clary admits, scrunching her nose up, "I just find it weird he didn't tell me, I mean, he tells me everything."

"Well, don't say anything," Isabelle says, "Jace will freak out."

"Freak out over what?" Jace asks, walking into her room. He steps at the foot of her bed and stares at the pair of them until Clary cracks.

"Y/N and Simon are hanging out," she tells him. Isabelle nudges her, shaking her head.

"Y/N and Simon," Jace repeats with furrowed brows, "Hanging out how?"

"They were on a date," Clary says.

"So Clary thinks," Isabelle corrects her, frowning, "She could have just been checking up on him to see how he's doing with all the vampire stuff. She's nice like that."

Jace nods thoughtfully – Isabelle's explanation was better than accepting that maybe you were on a date with Simon.

Jace didn't have a hard time hooking up with girls or flirting with them but when it came to you, each and every time, he was dumbfounded. You had this electricity to you that made Jace lose all sense.

And even though the two of you were friends, he could never bring himself to ask you out – instead he just got jealous and protective – or in situations like this, kind of murderous.

"Simon," he growls.

"It's not Simon's fault," Isabelle insists, "It's not like he knows you're secretly in love with y/n."

"I'm not in love with her," Jace snaps, "I just – I'm –"

"Just admit it, you're totally obsessed with her," Alec interrupts.

"Great, more people," Isabelle grumbles, placing her book on her night stand knowing she wouldn't be able to get back to it anytime soon.

"I just think that y/n could do a lot better than Simon Lewis," Jace scoffs.

"Ooh, he's using Simon's last name. This definitely means he's going to go over there and kill him," Alec chuckles, "Nice going Clary."

Clary stares at them wide eyed, "But I was just-"

She trails off when Jace turns around and heads out the door with an enraged expression on his face.

"We should stop him," Isabelle grumbles. The three of them clamour after him and when they reach the foyer, they find Jace with his back pressed against the wall of the control room door.

"What are you doing?" Clary asks.

Jace holds a finger up to his lips, "They're in the control room," he whispers.

"Doing what?" Alec frowns, craning his neck to get a better look. Jace tugs him back, shaking his head. He couldn't have them blowing his cover while he was trying to eavesdrop.
