"Take. It. Off."
You spun around to see Jace, standing in your bedroom doorway. His fists and jaw were clenched as he made his way over to you. You were caught off guard, you didn't know what he was referring to and you were annoyed that he thought he had the right to just waltz in here after all that had happened between the two of you.
"Jace you lost the right to come in here whenever you pleased when we broke up," you said your arms crossing over your chest, "so no. I won't take off anything. And you can leave."
But Jace didn't budge. His eyes burned, the flecks of brown in his blue eyes igniting, making everywhere they paused feel hot. Instinctively you put a hand over your upper left arm, feeling his gaze burn more there than anywhere else.
"Now," you insisted."Not until I see your arm."
"Why?"
"I know you got hurt on the last mission. I know it hasn't been healing the way it should."
"You don't get to take care of me anymore Jace." you said turning away and walking towards your window.
"Oh so that's Aldertree's job now?"
"That's what this is about?" you spun around, anger renewed. "Jace, are you kidding me?"
"I don't trust him Y/N!"
"He's-we're-we're nothing! He just wanted a mission update and to confirm that I was seeing help for my arm."
"That's not what I saw."
"Jace he is literally the opposite of my type," you said starting to get uncomfortable with where the conversation was going. You motioned to Jace as if he alone was proof of how disinterested you would be in Aldertree."Y/N, Stop!" Jace covered the distance between the two of you and grabbed your arm. You cried out in pain.
"That's what I thought," Jace said, lowering his tone and softening his hold on you. "You aren't healed and yet every time you come out of Aldertree's office you're fine. Like today you just went to train as if nothing was wrong. Not even an ache." The color drained from your face and you felt the walls closing in on your secret.
"Jace-" you tried to level your voice and explain. Maybe you could still avoid the truth coming out.
"Let me see it," he said, hovering his hand over the neckline of your training hoodie. When you didn't stop him he pulled it down exposing the darkened gash on your upper arm. But it was what was around the edges of the wound that made Jace's breath catch.
He ran a finger gently next to the wound, the silvery substance building up on his finger.
"Yin fen." he choked on the words, his eyes filling with tears. And then it was gone. The decline into fear and pain shut off by anger. An anger that was deeper and wilder than any you had seen in Jace before. He let you go and turned his back to you, suddenly lashing out punching the wall next to him. The Institutes wooden walls were unscathed, but Jace's knuckles were already welling up with blood.
"I'm going to rip Aldertree's head from his body." He said moving towards the door.
In fear you grabbed him, pulling him back to you. "Jace, no! Please! He's just trying to help!"
"Trying to help?!" Jace shouted, "Y/N he signed your death sentence! Do you not know what that is? What it does to you? You have two choices now- you continue taking it and become a shell of who you are, or you die. That's it! That's all you can do once yin fen is in your system."
You were shocked. You had walked happily into your own condemnation, thanking Aldertree in the process. You felt sick to your stomache as hope drained from your body, and fear pushed you to the ground.
Jace scooped down and caught you, slowly lowering you both the ground. "I'm here Y/N. I'm here and I'm going to find a way. I'll talk to Magnus, I'll make a cure, I'll do anything."
"Jace, I don't want to go."
"And I'm not losing you again." he said, cradling your face in his hands. "Together we can do this. This isn't the end."
