MEADOW FLETCHER AND CARL GRIMES
May 2, 2017
12:30 PM

THE train car was hot and stuffy. She listened has the ginger, Abraham, began talking, she was hard at work, sharpening a piece of wood for Carl. He sat next to her, watching, she was showing him how to make a sharp wooden stake.

"They seemed nice enough, but I was ready to go. We just got here, but, damn, it was time to go." "Give me your belt." Carl said, Meadow obliged, taking the black belt off, handing it to him, he bent the metal pieces back, making them sharper, doing the same to his belt. Ryan watched, taking his belt off, doing the same. "When I told them about DC, a wink and a nod from the head asshole in charge, they pulled their guns and it was right back to our regularly scheduled shitstorm."

"Before they put you in here, you didn't see Tyreese?" Sasha asked, Rick shook his head, "No." "Good."

Maggie asked about Beth, "A black care with a white cross painted on it. I tried to follow it. I tried." "But she's alive?" "She's alive."

Daryl watched through the cracks, Meadow handed her belt to Daryl, he nodded. She sat back down, finished the stake. "How'd you manage to sneak it?" Abraham asked, "I hid it in the right part of my shirt underneath this, right under my armpit." Abraham nodded, "Smart."

We heard men talking outside, far but it was drawing near. "All right, got four of them pricks coming our way." Everyone stood up, "You all know what to do, go for their eyes first, then their throats." Meadow handed the switchblade to Carl, he nodded at her. She held the wooden stake up, in a stance position, everyone crowed the door.

"Put your backs to the walls on either side of the car now." A man said.

No one moved, Meadow narrowed her eyes. Then they heard footsteps on the roof, they looked up as a hatch was opened, light pouring in. A tin can was dropped, "Move!" Abraham yelled. Ryan tackled Meadow to the ground, covering her eyes. Everyone coughed, she felt her brother being picked up off of her, "Ryan!" She yelled, coughing.

She got up weakly, making herself walk towards the door, the wooden stake in hand, the door slammed shut in her face. Her body gave up, "Ryan." She wheezed. Her eyes closing.

Her body shook, "Meadow, get up." She groaned, holding her head, she sat herself up, quickly, "Ryan where is he?" Carl looked at her, "I-I don't know, My dad is gone too."

Meadow looked around, breathing heavily. She got up, Carl handed her the switchblade, "Let's get back to it, they'll be back. We need to be ready to fight our way out of here."

Everyone looked at Meadow, nodding, Meadow went near the piece of wood Rick was working on, it was gone. She grinned, "Maybe sooner than later."

Meadow heard more gunshots, she listened, not even a few seconds later, a big explosion. "Get ready to move!" Abraham yelled, going near the door. She heard the snarling, the people screaming. Meadow listened.

She listened to everything. Michonne doing the same.

"What's the cure, Eugene?" Sasha asked. "It's classified."

"We don't know what's gonna happen."

"You leave him be." Abraham said. "We need to keep working."

"But it's time to hear it, we don't know what happens next." Tara looked at Sasha, "What happens next is that we get out of this."

"Even if I told you all, even if I provided step-by-step instructions complete with illustrations and a well-composed FAQ and I went red-ring, the cure would still die with me." Eugene said.

"I'm not gonna let that happen."

Meadow glared at Eugene, "Hit me, my parents were scientists, they studied everything to know about walkers to find a cure." Eugene swallowed thickly, "They said there wasn't a cure, but a way to stop them fully."

"Back off!" Abraham yelled.

"The best case scenario, we step out into a hellstorm of bullets, fire, and walkers. I'm not fleet of foot. I sure as hell can't take a dead one down with sharp buttons and hella confidence." Eugene scoffed. "Yeah, but we can and we will."

"You don't owe us anything. Not yet." Sasha said. "But we just wanna hear it."

"You don't have to." Rosita spoke up, Eugene stood up, "I was part of a ten person team at the Human Genome Project to weaponize diseases to fight weaponize diseases. Pathogenic microorganisms with pathogenic microorganisms. Fire with fire. Interdepartmental drinks were had, relationships made, information shared. I am keenly aware of all the details behind fail-safe delivery systems to kill every living person on this planet. I believe with a little tweaking in the terminals in DC, we can flip the script. Take out every last dead one of them. Fire with fire." Everyone looked at Meadow, "It checks out." She spoke softly.

"Let's get bac-" Maggie was cut off by the train door opening, quickly everyone rushed to the door, "Come on! Fight to the fence!" Rick yelled, Meadow's heart raced in her chest, Rick fired the automatic weapon he had, shooting the walkers. Everyone bolted out of the train car doors. They fought their way through the walkers. Meadow looked around for Ryan. She shook her head, helping everyone jump over the fence, Ryan was last. He hugged her quickly, she helped him over, quickly she jumped up against the fence, climbing it, a walker grabbed her leg. She yelled, kicking the walker off and away from her, Rick handed her the gun he had, she used the butt of it to hit the walker against the head, it released, she fell back. Breathing heavily.

Ryan held his hand out, helping her up. "Thanks." She said breathing heavily. He patted her back.

The big group began walking through the woods, heading to the spot where they buried the bag full of guns. "Right here." Daryl handed Rick the shovel, Rick began digging, "The hell are we still around here for?"

"Guns, some supplies. We go back to the fences with the rifles, we shoot them, they don't get to live."

"Rick, we got out, it's over."

"It's not over until they're dead."

Rick handed Meadow a weapon, she looked at Rick, "The fences are down, they'll run or they'll die."

A woman walked behind them, she seemed familiar to Meadow, Ryan's face softened. Daryl hugged the woman. Rick hugging her also. Meadow titled her head, walking closer, her eyes widened, her knees weakening, "Aunt Carol?"

She released from Rick's embrace, looking at Ryan and Meadow. She gasped, "Meadow? Ryan?" Meadow smiled running towards her and hugging her, tightly. Ryan doing the same. "Wheres Sophia!? And Uncle Ed?" Meadow asked, sniffling. "They didn't make it sweetie." She pressed a kiss on Meadow's forehead. Carol looked at Rick, "There is something I got to show you, come with me."

They walked on a road, leading to a cabin. There was a large man and he was holding a baby. Rick dropped everything, same with Carl, they booked it running.

Sasha embraced the large man as soon as they took the baby from him. Rick let out a sob, kissing the baby's forehead. Carol looked at Meadow, "Where is your mom and dad? Are they?" "They better be, they ditched us after we found Rick and Carl. I helped make sure Rick didn't die. They left us with a dying man." Meadow whispered.

Everyone sat down, resting for a bit. Carl held Judith, rocking her back and forth.

"We gotta go soon, the forest is burning." Carol spoke up. Rick nodded, "Yeah but where?" Daryl asked.

"Somewhere, far away from there." Rick said, starting to walk away. "You want to hold her?" Carl asked, Meadow thought about it for a second, "I don't know how."

"It's easy, put your arms out like this," he motioned his arms in a cradling position, "And then, I'll put her in your arms." Meadow positioned her hands, Carl carefully put Judith in her arms. Judith cooed, grabbing at Meadow's nose.

Everyone walked on the train tracks, going the opposite way from Terminus.
