MEADOW FLETCHER'S POV
May 23, 2017
4:39 PMMY eyes scanned the room, books were cluttered all over the place. Deanna looked at me, a grin never left her face, "Please, sit." She was referring to the chair. I looked at it, "I'll get it dirty." "Nonsense." I walked over to the chair, the floorboard creaking. I sat down, it was soft. Deanna walked over to a camera, "You mind if I record this session?" She asked, about to press the button, "I'm sorry, what?" I was shocked, my mouth agape. "I like to film this, to reflect."
"Go ahead." I nervously tucked a strand of hair behind my air, my hair felt knotty, greasy, and damaged. Deanna clicked the button, she made her way to the leather sofa. "What's your name?" She asked, sitting down. Deanna held her hands together, smiling as she leaned closer. I looked at her, never breaking eye contact, "Meadow," I paused, looking at my hands, they were filthy, bloody, bruised, "Meadow Fletcher."
"I'm Deanna Monroe, you have such a pretty name," Deanna looked at me, I gained the courage to look at her again, she gave me a reassuring smile, "Tell me your story." She spoke calmly, she didn't look scared.
I hesitated, "I don't think you want to hear about it." The words falling out of my mouth, I leaned back in the chair, "I've done things. Things I never thought I would, but I did them for survival. I did them so my group could survive." I felt a lump rising in my throat. Deanna pursed her lips together, "Tell me, Meadow, what you did for survival."
I stared at her, trying to piece everything together, trying to find the words to say to her. How could I tell a stranger about all of the people I have killed?
"Meadow?" Deanna looked at me. Tears brimmed my eyes, I began to rapidly blink, "I've killed people, bad people, in the most cruel way ever. I killed to save my group, my brother." Deanna looked at me, "Now that's a group I'd like to be apart of."
"If I had to do it again, I would, with no hesitation." I whispered, my voice cracking. "Did you know these people before or after?" Deanna asked, "After, it was always my parents, Ryan, and I. Until a few months ago, they left Ryan and I, Rick was basically dying and they left us." Deanna's expression changed, "I'm sorry." "No, it's okay because now I know there are good people left in this world. My parents were too scared to find them." Deanna nodded her head, sending a toothy smile my way. I returned a half-grin her way. "Thank you, for being honest, Meadow." I nodded.
Deanna followed me out of the room, calling Carl and Judith in next.
"They're still your guns, you can check them out when you go beyond the walls. You are safe behind these walls." Deanna said, I was the first to place my pistol and bow in the cart. I gave a reassuring nod to Rick. He shook his head, placing his python in the cart also. Everyone doing the same with their weapons.
Aaron showed us to the house, or houses I should say. "Both of 'em?" Ricked asked, "At your disposal. But' I'd call dibs on that one, has more curb appeal." Curb appeal? I looked at the house he was referring to, it was big. "Listen, I know you're still feeling us out, but I'm glad you came. Anyways, Deanna asked everyone to give you guys some space so they aren't coming all at you at once. Take your time. Explore."
I felt my legs walking towards the big house, I took my blade out, Rick opened the door slowly. He walked in first, there were picture frames on the right, no pictures inside of them. On the left there was a beautiful living room, some blankets laid on the kitchen table. The couch was white, had a blue blanket on the back of it, four plaid pillows laid untouched on the couch.
Walking into the kitchen, my eyes darted to the fridge, I opened the door, a cool breeze hitting my face. Carl turned the tap on, water spurted out. My head turned around, looking at it, Rick let a smile grow on his face, mine doing the same.
