I let out a yawn as I walked through the doors of my school. The hallways were filled with students; some at their lockers getting the materials they needed while others were hanging around, waiting for their class to start.
I walked further down the hall until I saw my friend, Yeojin in the distance. A smile made its way to my face as I began to quicken my pace to reach her—until I hit a tall figure. I grabbed my arm, rubbing the sore area that was just hit as I looked up to see who I had ran into.
There stood Kang Minhee: known throughout the school for not saying a word unless absolutely necessary. He had now friends and it seemed like he enjoyed it that way. Anyone who did try and be friendly with him would immediately get rejected.
Minhee shot me an icy glare as I awkwardly smiled and walked away. When I had finally made it to Yeojin, we both walked into class and sat at our seats. I let out an exasperated sigh and leaned back in my chair. "What kind of guy likes to be alone like that? It's like he isn't even human."
Yeojin shrugged her shoulders as she rubbed my back, her way of calming me down. "There are just some people you'll never understand. It's best to keep it that way." I slightly pouted but nodded, agreeing with Jawahir.
The two of us immediately began to talk about our night, catching up on what we weren't able to talk about the previous day. Yeojin's eyes lit up as she pulled out her phone to show me something. "I have something epic to show you. I just got two tickets to a secret, underground DEAN concert, tonight ! You have to come with me!"
I smiled widely as I took a look at the concert tickets. My happiness soon began to fade away as I remembered my previous plans for the day. "I can't come. I have a tutoring thing with the middle school kids today."
Yeojin frowned and slumped her shoulders. "Are you really picking middle schoolers over DEAN? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! We can't miss this!" I sadly smiled and rejected her offer once more. "I really can't. I promised the kids that if they all got 100% on their quiz, I would treat them. Why don't you ask Seungwoo to go?"
The two of us looked back to see our other friend Seungwoo hanging out with our other classmates. Yeojin sighed and nodded as she stood up to go towards him. "Why do you have to be such a saint, (Y/N)?" I let out a laugh as I pulled out my books for our first class. "I'm sorry, but I have a good feeling that these kids are going to do well. I'll go see DEAN with you another time." I softly smiled to Yeojin which she returned as she nodded her head in agreement.
The school day had finally come to an end as I waved goodbye to Yeojin and headed to the tutoring centre. Once I entered, I came face to face with my boss who smiled brightly at me. "(Y/N)! I have some good news; we were finally able to find a new tutor to help you!" A smiled and looked in the direction to where she was pointing only to find Kang Minhee already starting to help a few kids. I could see a difference in his behaviour compared to how he was at school. his ice cold demeanour was replaced with a warm and energetic behaviour around the kids he was tutoring.
Just by seeing his contagious smile, I began to do the same unconsciously as I began to get started on helping my kids with their work. From the corner of my eye, I could see Minhee looking at me, but I decided to ignore it. Once tutoring hours were over and the kids were long gone, I said goodbye to my boss as I began to head home. As I was headed to the bus stop, I heard a voice call for me. I turned around to see Minhee running to catch up to me. He stood in front of me, bending down and trying to catch his breath. I quickly opened my bag and handed him my water bottle, gesturing for him to take it. With a bright smile, he thanked me and began to drink as I began to unconsciously smile again.
Minhee pointed down the road to my bus stop. "Are you taking that bus too?" I nodded as his smile grew wider. "That's perfect. I'm taking it too." The two of us began to walk towards the bus stop and sat on the seats, waiting for the bus to come. An awkward silence fell over us and I finally decided to break the ice. "You work really well with kids. I would have never guessed." Minhee let out a small laugh and looked at me. "I mean, I can tell why you would've have thought that. I am not exactly the most outgoing person at school." The two of us began to joke around as our bus finally came.
We boarded the bus and continued our conversation and what felt like hours, was only a couple of minutes as the bus had reached my stop. With a small smile, I turned to Minhee as I stood up to leave only to see him getting up too. We both got off and with a confused look, I turned back to him. "You live around here? I've never seen you here though..." I watched as Minhee rubbed the back of his neck, looking back at me with a nervous smile. "Let me take you home. It's pretty dark outside and I wouldn't want anything to happen to you."
A small blush began to come to flush my cheeks as I smiled brightly. We walked back to my house, a comforting silence falling over us again. The two of us had finally made it to my house but before I could step inside, I heard Minhee call my name. "(Y/N), I'm sorry if this is sudden, but I really need to tell you this." I nodded as I saw him take a deep breath and continue. "I like you, a lot. You have grabbed my attention since the minute I laid my eyes on you. I can't stop thinking about you and when I found out that I would be working with you today, I couldn't stop smiling!"
I was taken aback by his confession; it was the first time anyone had confessed to me and Minhee managed to do it so beautifully. "But why me? I'm not anyone special. I don't stand out at all. I'm just...me" A frown replaced Minhee's smiled as he took my hand in his, caressing it with his thumb. "Please don't ever say that about yourself. You are beautiful and charismatic and kind and so many other things (Y/N). You're perfect in my eyes. Absolutely perfect."
Tears of joy began to well up in my eyes as I hugged Minhee, holding him close. I could feel him gently caressing my back with his free hand. After pulling away, I looked up and smiled at Minhee. "So, what are we now?"
Minhee placed a soft kiss on my cheek before stepping back. "I'll pick you up for school tomorrow morning, my beautiful girlfriend." I watched him wave goodbye to me as he headed on his way home. After processing the fact that he kissed me, a wide smile was painted on my lips as I finally went inside my house, wishing for tomorrow to come sooner.
