19: Ange

Ange's PoV

I'm Ange Leilan, fourth daughter of baron Aldren Leilan. I was supposedly going to receive etiquette training, however upon discovering my aptitude for swordsmanship. I was enrolled to the knight's academy instead.

The squires all looked down on me, that's a given for a young lady studying for a male dominant role.

Father rarely visits me at the academy, in time I got used to it and focused on my studies.

At my second year in the academy, I surpassed many of my classmates, unlike many whom simply boast their strength, I strived on improving my skills.

Our instructor praise my skill with the sword and halberd.

"As expected of Miss Ange, you have refined your skill to that of an actual knight."

"Surely you jest."

"Humble as always."

I continued my studies for three more years, I earned the title of Knight, the position of company commander.

After being assigned as company commander, my teacher whom is a commander led me to the barracks, in order to introduce me to my company.

"I'm Ange Leilan, I'm the new commander of this company."

The soldiers in the barracks whom were casually chatting all went silent. At first my relationships with my company wasn't well, they're still doubting my capabilities. But in time I wish to gain their trust. Prove to them that I'm worthy of being their comrade at arms.

Our company was first tasked with subjugating a bandit group, whom were attacking travelling merchants, which disrupted trading within the region.

"We have received orders to subjugate a bandit group. Their numbers are unknown."

The company had one hundred soldiers, after finding their hideout, the punitive force quickly surrounding the bandit encampment.

The bandits fortified themselves inside a cave, I ordered my troops to scout the area, making sure that the bandits can't escape through hidden pathways.

I ordered the use of smoke bombs, forcing the bandits out of their cave, with my halberd at hand, my company and I slaughtered the bandits, leaving none alive.

After disposing the corpses, a white haired man approached me and asked.

"Your orders milady?"

"For now, rest and recover your strength, we will survey the area to make sure that the bandits are wiped out."

"As you wish milady, I shall now give the word."

The man's name is Leone, he is my trusted adjutant, he is a talented man whom was also my classmate in the academy.

Unlike many of his peers, whom boast their lineage. Leone is a hardworking and determined man, whom aspires to become a Knight captain. He is also the second in our best student in our batch.

"What would become of those whom surrendered?"

Leone asked he spoke in a joking tone, but I felt the seriousness of his question. I took a deep breathe and replied.

"We'll arrest them, if possible we should avoid killing."

He giggle and patted my shoulder.

"As you wish lady Ange."

As time passed, my company slowly accepted me as their commander and comrade at arms, they respect me not because of my titles, rather my peers as a soldier.
