16: Reinforcements

Normal PoV

Three hours after Akane's platoon has subdued the imperial army's supply unit. Yuito with a force of two hundred soldiers.

"Has the enemy arrived yet?"

Akane approached Yuito, stood straight and saluted, she took a deep breathe and reported.

"Defeated and captured sir!"

Yuito dismounted his horse, he looked around and saw sixty bounded individuals, pleased with the results he ordered.

"Treat the wounded, secure the supplies and prisoners, we'll return to the fortress to strengthen it's garrison."

"I think it's unwise to make a move too hastily sire, we can't return to the fortress without a plan."

"What do you mean? Care to explain milady?"

Yuito asked, with a stern voice, he raised his eyebrows and had an irritated look on his face as he awaited Akane's reply.

Akane glared at Yuito, her eyes gleaming with intense ferocity. Her voice was deep and powerful as she told him.

"The fortress is currently under siege, if we're to move without a proper plan, we'll only make our situation dire."

Surprised with Akane's response Yuito asked.

"Are you certain of this?"

Akane nodded, calling soldier from her platoon, a soldier quickly stepped forward, she saluted and reported.

"I'm a scout from Lady Akane's Platoon."

"Your report."

"As you wish, after Sir Yuito and his unit left the fortress, the imperial army quickly laid siege on the fortress. The garrison is doing their best to hold their ground, however it's only a matter of time before the fortress is taken."

Yuito dismissed the soldier, he turned to Akane and angrily shouted.

"This is your fault, if we hadn't agreed on executing your plan, the garrison wouldn't be lacking on troops to defend itself."

Akane remained calm, she took a deep breathe and asked.

"Are all the commanding officials truly dead?"

Yuito calmed down and asked.

"What do you mean?"

"The enemy is well organized, they are besieging the fortress with coordinated attacks, not something a leaderless army would do."

Yuito simply looks at her with disbelief and replied.

"That's impossible I swear that their chain of command was wiped-"

Before he could finish his words, Yuito stopped and muttered to himself.

"The logistics commander wasn't assassinated, could he have rallied the imperial troops?"

"Perhaps."

Akane sighed and took out a scroll and explained the situation.

"Based on the reports, the enemy launched coordinated attacks on the fortress, whilst they dispatched detachments to scavenge resources for the main army."

"I'm sorry, for blaming you."

Yuito told Akane, his voice clearly dejected, Akane smiles back and replied.

"Apology accepted."

Yuito sat down beside a tree with a stern look on his face, pondering on how to break the siege.
