I just got back to the library from the camping trip. It was a disaster.
On Friday I went to Emma's place after school all happy and excited. I was the only one invited because I'm her best friend. We got ready and drove to the campground. When we got there we set up the tent. Then we built a campfire and roasted apples and potatoes for dinner. We sat by the fire and talked for ages and then Emma's parents sent me and Emma to bed. We stayed awake all night talking to each other. That night was fine.
The next day we went to the adventure park. It's a great adventure park, but guess who was there. The leaders of the Anti Book Movement, that's who. They snickered when they saw me.
"Why, look who's here!" sneered Elva. "If it isn't the library girl..."
"But how can she be here?" said one of the boys. "Adventure parks are for cool kids! Everyone knows nerds don't like them."
"Yeah, that's just common knowledge," said another boy."She should be at home with her nose buried in a book! I'm sure she'd rather be doing that than be here."
"Let's ask her," said the third boy, and he yelled out to me:"Hey, library girl! What are you doing here? Don't you hate adventure parks? And where's your book?"
I was furious. Just because I love books doesn't mean I don't like adventure parks. I love adventure parks! Of course not nearly as much as I love books, but still...They were there the whole day, and they ruined our whole time at the adventure park. I usually have good balance, but many times I almost fell and died because I was so angry at them.Emma kept telling me to ignore them, but that was impossible.
We were in bad spirits when we got back to our camp that evening. We had dinner and went to bed. I didn't want to talk to Emma that night. I just wanted to get to sleep, but I couldn't because I kept thinking about the Anti-Book Movement. That night a huge storm came. Our tent was almost ruined by it. We had to pack up in the middle of the night and go back home. I was allowed to spend the rest of the night at Emma's place. In the morning the storm had cleared. I had breakfast with Emma and her family and then left for the library. What a terrible disappointment! I think I'll read now.
