Guess who was in the library today!
Okay, have you given up? Then I'll tell you. My friend Emma was in the library! Emma is a bookworm, just like me, and she's in the library as often as I am. Or at least she was before I moved in to the library. Now she isn't in the library nearly as much as I am!
I was reading on the couch when she suddenly turned up and came and sat next to me! I was so startled that I literally jumped out of my skin!
"Hi, Rosa," she said.
I still hadn't completely recovered from the shock, but I managed to squeeze out a single "Hi."
"It was a nice surprise to see you in the library," Emma chattered. She's always talked too much as long as I've known her. "What are you reading?"
I showed her the book. Maybe I should tell you what the book was. I was reading The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. I was only up to Chapter Three, but I've finished it now. It was very good.
"I haven't read that one," said Emma when I showed her the book. "But I've read some other books by the same author. She's very good."
"This is the first one I've read of hers," I said. "But I'm enjoying this book."
"You should read her other books!" said Emma. "I'll check this one out when you've finished... meanwhile, I'll choose another book," she added. "I haven't really got much to read at the moment."
She got up and went over to the bookshelf to look at the books. It wasn't long before she found one she wanted, and she carried it over to the couch where we'd been sitting.
"I love this author," she said, showing it to me. "I've read just about all his books except this one."
"Sounds good," I said, reading the back. "Maybe I'll read it some time."
"You'd better," Emma laughed. "And you have to read his other books, too! They're all amazing! Here, I'll write his name down for you... do you have a paper and pen?"
"Just write it in here," I said, holding out my open diary and my pencil. "It's all I have."
And so Emma took the diary and pencil and scribbled down the name of the author she loved so much. Not long after that, Emma left the library, and I began to read again. I hadn't told her about the fire. I knew she wouldn't believe me if I did, just like everyone else.
