Jughead definitely set his interrogation up well, that was for sure. Ice cream was on the counter as Jellybean played pool on the table in the room. I scooped some of the dessert into a bowl for the two siblings before handing them over to Jug. He gave me a smile, shoving spoons in as well before walking towards his sister.

"JB, do you know where your pal Ricky is?" He asked as he handed her the full bowl.

She looked suspicious by his question. "Is he in trouble?"

Jughead hesitated in his answer as he took a bite of the ice cream. Sure, the kid wasn't in any serious legal trouble (well, he probably was), but JB didn't need to know the full extent of the answer. "Well, Ricky's been working for the Gargoyle King, and it's putting a lot of people's lives in danger."

"Ricky's in Fox Forest," She replied with an upset expression. "Getting ready to ascend, whatever that means."

I looked at the two of them in shock before asking, "Where? Do you know?"

"I need you to draw me a map, right now." Jughead quickly grabbed her a marker and paper where the young girl began sketching what she knew of the location. I tossed the ice cream carton in the freezer and grabbed my phone from the table, tucking it in my back pocket as JB finished up her estimate.

"We gotta go." Jughead probably left his sister in a mess of confusion as he grabbed my arm and ran out the door. I could tell he was panicking, for Ricky's life and for the sake of discovering the Gargoyle King.

I fought to catch my breath as we stopped to take a break once we were deep enough in the trees. The sun was just shifting into dusk, casting the forest in a golden light. "Geez, Jug. If I knew we were gonna be hauling ass, I would've rented an electric scooter," I complained as I rubbed my aching ankle. "Why is that I always end up running on a sprained ankle?"

"Sorry," He apologized as he continued to review the map. "We're almost there."

I let out a whine at the idea of moving again but continued on around another bend before we entered a clearing. A series of sticks were arranged into a circle where a boy kneeled in the middle in front of two chalices.

"Ricky!" Jughead shouted as we moved forward into the circle, interrupting whatever the boy was about to do.

"You shouldn't be here!" He defended before yelling again as Jughead kicked the cups away. "No!" He struggled in my grip as I tried to hold him still. "What are you doing?"

Jughead grabbed his jacket sleeves and held him in place. "Listen, kid. We're taking you back to civilization, alright?"

"I don't want to!" He spat back as he glared at both of us.

"We've played this game, Ricky," I continued Jughead's idea. "We know it can make you do some crazy things, but we need you alive because we're gonna end this together, alright?"
