"Hey guys could you come up front for a bit? Our manager has an announcement," Tom asked Alan and me. The two of us were in the back room working on some stuff for Mark when they called us up. I turned to face Alan trying to see if he knew what was up. In response to my questioning eyes he shrugged, getting up from his seat.
"What's up?" he asked once we reached the front. I took an empty seat next to Bill who placed his head on top of mine. The whole band and the two of us sat in front of their manager who stood near the door, waiting for him to speak up.
"So, it was brought to my attention that due to some misunderstandings some of the venues that we were set to play at did not schedule the correct performance dates," he spoke with a silence at the end as if waiting for us reaction. Instantly I felt Bill's head lift up from mine to question the words that were just said.
"What do you mean?" he asked. I could see the deep breath that their manager took in before explaining the circumstances.
"As you know last year we did a European tour around the same time and since these venues work in a manner that they keep an archive of previous tour dates, the tour dates that were scheduled were those of last year," he explained. It was evident that he was annoyed at this problem. I lifted my head to look at Alan who had sat directly across from me. We looked into each other's eyes knowing exactly what the other was thinking. Actually I was almost positive that it was something everyone in the room was thinking.
So what now?
"It was decided by the label to cancel the remainder of the European tour, and continue on to the American leg of the tour. Right after this meeting I will notify the label to release the statement.
Fans will be given refunds and we will coordinate a new tour after the American leg of it," their manager continued his explanation. No one said anything else, we just nodded in understanding.
"Anyone from the band have any questions?" he waited a few seconds, allowing the members to take in all the information that had been given to them.
"Well seems like everything's been decided for us so no not really. Thanks for asking for our opinion," Tom said, getting up from his seat and going to the place that I had just come from. Right after him the members one by one made their way towards there. I couldn't imagine how they must have been feeling. But a part of me also couldn't help but think about Alan and myself. We had rejected many job opportunities to do this tour but now that is cancelled we have no opportunities in the near future.
"As for you guys, we were planning on offering you guys a contract for the American leg of the tour, so I guess now is that time to ask if you would be interested," their manager spoke. I looked over to Alan since he was normally the spokesperson between the two of us.
"The contract would stay as if and since technically us cancelling the tour is a breach in your contracts you guys will be paid in full even for the dates cancelled. So what do you say?" he sounded hopeful that we would say yes. I watched Alan sit back in his seat, thinking of what to say. It was a good offer but did we really want to do this. The European tour was long on its own, now add the American tour. I wasn't too sure I wanted to be far away from my family that long.
"We will have a decision by the end of the day," Alan said sharply. The manager nodded his head in agreement. We sat in our seats until we saw him enter the back room to talk to the band.
"Come on, let's get something to eat," Alan stood up from his seat. We walked around the city using Google maps. Finally after walking for some time we found the place we were searching for. We went inside the small restaurant and took a seat. Neither one of us said anything until the waiter came to take our order even then when he walked away we stayed quiet.
"I don't think I want to be on the road more time," I spoke up.
Sure there were perks of being on tour such as getting to spend time with Georg, seeing new places, creating memories and experience but even they came with cons. Even if I was with Georg everyday no one could know we were together, I can't see my family, I lack sleep, and I'm always stressed out.
"I miss my mom and Elijah. I miss being able to sleep in my bed. If you want to continue then you can, but I don't think I can," Alan just nodded his head as I made my decision.
"Me neither, but I feel bad for leaving, especially with the bad news they just received," he said.
"It's only two months here, and we'd be home earlier because of the cancelled dates. We're still getting paid for those days. I think the members would want us to stay."
I sighed knowing that he had a good point. What kind of friends would we be if we just packed up and left?
"I hate that you're right," I rolled my eyes and made space for my food on the table. "Fine, we'll do it then. But you're going to be the one to break it to my mom."
"That's fine, she loves me so she probably got be so against it," he laughed at my eye rolling.
"And you have to tell Elijah because he's been counting down the days for us to go home," I added to make him sweat.
"I'll tell him that he can beat me up when we get home," he semi joked.
"Elijah will kill you," I said to him, knowing my brother very well. Alan nodded his in agreement, since he many experiences of getting hurt by Elijah's hand.
"And you're also telling Mark," I stated before taking a bit of my sandwich. I could see Alan roll his eyes at me, and nod.
"Yes, ma'm is there anyone else you would like for me to inform?" he spoke while laughing at his own joke. I pretended to think about it which cause him to laugh even more.
"No, that's all for now peasant," I continued the role play we had created, this time joining in to laugh. I was excited but at the same time I knew it'd be a long two months.
