Aaron was a little surprised he invited her home. He didn't even invite that psycho chic home. He just knew that he could trust Debra though. He valued his privacy and didn't even invite any of his coworkers over either. He couldn't explain it, but he knew Debra was different.
Aaron rushed home and straightened up a bit because he had left in a rush this morning. He made a pot of coffee and put the cobbler in the oven. He turned some soft music on, and even lit a candle to make his house smell nice. He stopped for a second, this is not a date so why the candle and music. He smiled and shrugged his shoulders. Oh well it's done. He laughed out loud. How in the hell is he going to keep this platonic. He could already picture scenarios in his head of the things they could be doing, on the couch, in the shower, on his bed, heck even on the kitchen table. He was in the middle of those thoughts when Debra knocked on the door. He took a breath and went to the door. Taking another breath he opened it and smiled at her.
"Glad you came, come on in." She stepped in cautiously. He could tell she was nervous.
"You sure don't live very far from work. Guess that's a good thing so you are not rushing to work." She looked around.
He put a hand on the small of her back and guided her in. "We can sit on the couch. Take your shoes off get comfortable. My home is yours." He said.
She smiled at him and went to be seated. His hand had scalded her back where he touched her. "Do you need help with anything?" She was nervous.
He started to the kitchen. "Nope, I think I got it." He had already had a tray with sugar, creamer, spoons and cups he just needed to pour the coffee. He pulled the cobbler out of the oven. Perfect he thought. He bowled up some for each of them and poured coffee. "Do you want ice cream on your cobbler?"
Debra was impressed as she sat there she looked around "If you have some, if not no biggie." She answered and continued her scan of the place. His place was really simple but comfy. Simple but not cheap. The candles, and music was kinda making Debra think that this was not just a friends visit, but more of a romantic effort. This made her get a little excited yet scared. She didn't want nothing romantic at this point in her life. The problem was her body was telling her different. Could she keep it platonic? Time would tell she guessed. She wasn't going to overthink things. She had ruined things with others by doing that.
He walked back in with a tray filled with goodies.
"Ok here we go." He set it on the table and he grabbed a couple of pillows and set them on the floor and plopped down. He patted the pillow next to him. "Come on down." She scooted forward and then sat down on the floor beside him. She looked at the tray."Just fix your coffee the way you like." He fixed his, just black with a bit of sugar.
"Thanks, and this cobbler looks amazing! Oh my gosh, how did you know I like carmel on it as well!" She looked at him and clapped like a kid in a candy store.
He laughed. Her personality was so unpredictable. Here he was all bundled up with nervous tension and she just wiped that away with just that simple thing.
"Well I didn't know but that's the way I like it so I just did it." He dug into his.
She grab her spoon and scooped a big helping and stuck it in her mouth. She closed her eyes and hummed.
He stopped midway and watched her as her head was tilted back and her eyes closed and she savored the bite. He took his bite.
She turned to him. "Now close your eyes and let it sit on your tongue. So he did. "Can you taste the tartness of peaches and carmel, or peaches and ice cream. Imagine tasting the cinnamon and carmel. It's such a delicious combination don't you think."
He open his eyes and looked at her and finished his bite. He was smiling like a kid. That was kinda cool. He thought. The taste seemed to be intensified with his closed eyes.
