I awoke earlier than usual. The mumbled bickering between my family being the prominent cause.
It had been a month since I lost the ability to practice magic, which, happened on my twentieth birthday.
My unfortunate family, a small coven of Virgo witches, were ironically ashamed of having a magic less daughter. As if I had intention of losing my magic, it's all I've ever known. Its who I am.
Well, much to my dismay, its who I was.
As if my confidence wasn't low enough, this certainly did not help the situation. I had no clue as to why it occured, and, now I honestly didn't know what to expect of my family. Or the coven. It was like their love for their child only existed because of my magic. With that now gone, time in the family home was on the rocks.
"Lyla, could you come downstairs?", my mothers stern voice echoed throughout the house.
Still tired from a restless night, I pull my slump physique out of bed, throwing on a pair of black skinny jeans and a pale blue blouse. I braced myself for another argument with the coven.
I strolled into the living room, where the entire family were sitting, crossing glances and whispers. Irritation flowed through my veins, I just knew there was going to be yet another ridiculous interrogation.
"Before uncle Joe starts getting snarky again, theres something I have to say-", I sent a cold glare around the many faces that filled up the small living room before continuing. -"It is not my fault I lost my magic. Im still as baffled and as angry as all of you, so if you think you can just shout and throw remarks at me, you can honestly get the fuck out of my sight now".
Nobody said a word, until my mother, who also happened to be coven leader, stood up.
"First of all, that is no way to talk to your elders young lady. Secondly, I think its time you recieve your punishment for shaming this coven. No daughter of mine will be witch-less", she stayed pan faced.
The emptiness in her tone sent shivers down my spine. Although I knew how cruel my mother could be, I never expected her to snap like this.
It was ludacris. Punishment for something you can't control is barbaric. But I guess I shouldn't have expected anything less from the ruthless Virgo's.
Without warning, my father and uncle grabbed both of my stiff arms, marching my caught off guard body outside, into the dampness of November.
They didn't listen to my screams and objections. Instead, they dragged my anatomy toward an opening of the woods that was in front of our house. The rest of the coven followed, all quietly chanting behind. The familiarity of the spell made my heart rise into my throat.
There's no way. Surely my family wouldn't allow this.
In a rough shove, my father threw my shook up physique onto the cold ground. As soon as my father and uncle joined in on the chanting, my head began to feel fuzzy and cloudy.
"Mom, Dad, please stop, it hurts!", I cried out in inevitable pain. Like it mattered, as of right now, I'm nothing to them.
My coven couldn't care less about the cries of plea. I knew I wasn't their daughter anymore. In a swift second, the pain in my head increased, signaling my very fear. Before I passed out, I noticed two people standing amongst the coven that I did not recognise. My mind attempted to decipher the pair, but in an abrupt flash, everything went black.
