"I can't believe you let a sixteen year old blackmail you into sneaking her out to see a boy she likes", I laugh in a pissed off tone. The situation is hilarious though, who knew Kai parker could be deceived by a kid.

"Yeah laugh it up, but remember you'll be chaperone number two. Now who's laughing?", Kai grimaces while we wait outside the back of the church for the witch. I'd say drinks are definitely on the cards for me, if I'm gonna be tolerating three children tonight.

"So what was the terms then?"

"For?"

I roll my eyes, "the blackmail obviously, what is she promising to hide?". The siphon seemed to tense up after I spoke those words. He leaned back and forth on the heels of his feet, trying to act like my question didn't worry him.

"Um, long story - and it's a private matter, so don't worry about it ", he purposely avoids looking at me. Well, if he thinks he can act like a jackass and get away with it, he has another thing coming. I don't need to be tagging along with kai the supernanny, since it's such a private matter. Pettiness isn't usually in my demeanor, but kai seems to be dragging it to the surface lately. I start to walk away from the back entrance, but a certain siphon with fast reflexes isn't about to let that happen.

"Where are you going?", he holds onto my right shoulder, is that a hint of nervousness I see?

"I'm not gonna stick around tonight if I'm out of the loop kai, do you know how useless it makes me feel? How stupid it makes me look?"

"I get it, you deserve to know but just trust me on this, I'd really rather you not know ", his hand drops to his side and I get to witness first hand how guilty he looks right now. What does Davina know that he's trying so hard for me to not find out? If anything I'm a hundred times more eager to know. I fold my arms over my chest, and think about what I'm gonna say carefully.

"Kai..how much crap have you and I been through together this past week? Enough for our friendship to be stable, and enough for you to be able to trust me, even if its something that might upset me. So come on, what is it?". Kai throws back his head in frustration, deeply exhaling through his nose. It's hardly that bad, what has him so wound up?

"I got Davina to do an Oracle spell for me, to see if there's anything I could siphon to gain permanent magic..soo-"

"So?", oh just spit it out parker for Gods sake. Where's the usual irritating chatterbox that never shuts up?

"She found my solution Lyla. I have to drain every ounce of magic from my dear old sis which will kill her. Bet you wish I didn't tell you now, am I right?". Although my lips slightly parted from the blunt answer, a part of me expected something sinister. As a former witch I'm familiar with people being magically sucked dry resulting in their untimely death. I also expected something like this would have to happen for the siphon to gain full power, to which the other part of me ignored. I look up at the taller framed brunette, not exactly sure on what I'm gonna say back.

"You're right, I'd rather not know. It's your life, your personal vendetta, your business. I can't really afford to judge if I was thinking of my own vengeance back in the prison world. I'm gonna go check if Davina's ready", I barely ease a smile as I turn around to go for the door.

"Lyla wait. If it means anything, I don't have any hatred towards my sister, at least not as much as my prick of a father. But it's my only way of getting magic for good, I don't want you to hate me for it". Woah, either my hearing is off today or kai just sounded as if he had a guilty conscious. But what does that make me, if I pretend to be unaware of the threat his sister faces in the near future? Just as bad? Being shunned really changes a person, I'm- changing.
