One year later
I tried to ignore the foreign sickness that seemed to be forming in my stomach.
I never get this nervous. It doesn't happen, period. However, as soon as the violin started to play an orchestral version of living on a prayer, I felt my heart pound in my chest. It's time. She's here. I glanced around at the guests sitting comfortably in their white chairs that faced my stance. They were jittery from excitement. They couldn't wait to see Lyla in her gown. Hell, I couldn't wait to see her. I already knew she would be breathtaking, especially in a wedding dress.
I glanced back at my three groomsmen. An amused look was formed on their faces, seemingly well aware of my nerves.
"Take a deep breath will you? I think you're on the verge of a heart attack", Dorian spoke while attempting to hide his laughter.
Ric and Stefan cracked a gladden smile as they clasped their hands together in front of their physique, knowing that any minute now she would be walking down the aisle. I shook my head at the two idiots, trying to concentrate on looking presentable for my soon to be wife.
Wife. How odd is that? Malachai parker, former sociopath about to wed a sweet virgo witch. Who the hell would've guessed? I glanced around the scene before me. We both wanted an outdoor wedding, with simplicity and neutral colours. The aisle consists of a cream coloured carpet, with caramel coloured flowers on either side. The alter itself was a simple piece of white cloth that filled a large square patch for the groomsmen, bridesmaids, myself and Lyla- and of course, the ordained Virgo herself.
I was actually the one to ask Wendy to wed us, I couldn't think of anyone more suitable. Her wise words, and kind heart was perfect for the role. Wendy stood a few feet from my stance, happily humming along to my choice of alter song. I knew she was a bon Jovi fan.
"If everyone could stand please, the bridesmaids are about to enter", the virgo leader announced suddenly, and I instantly swallowed a dry lump.
I watched with anticipation as three of Lyla's closest friends began to walk down the aisle. Rebekah was first, confidently attired in her pale pink dress that flowed down to her calves. The original sent me an excited smile, and I couldn't help but smile back. The second to emerge was my sister Josette, and she nearly stumbled in the heels Lyla had convinced her to wear- causing both Alaric and myself to chuckle. Much to her dismay, but she kept a polite smile for the small crowd as she stood behind the blonde vampire.
The last bridesmaid appeared, and she had grown close to Lyla as soon as she started teaching at the boarding school. Emma gracefully approached the alter, taking her stand behind Jo. That only left the piece de resistance. My Lyla.
The violinist began to play the song from the start again, signifying the entrance of the bride. I took another deep breath and exhaled through my nose, anxiously waiting for her to appear. The crowd suddenly turned their head towards the end of the alter, and I followed their gaze. My irises immediately enlarged at the sight in front of me. The sheer beauty of the girl was indescribable, and inhuman. This is the first time I'm witnessing her dress, and ecstatic wouldn't even be a strong enough word.
She was perfect. Her white dress hugged her hips tightly, then trailed down to her feet in a flowing manner. The top half of the material was held together with two thin straps that sat on either side of her shoulders, and a v line shape exposed the top of her cleavage ever so slightly. She looked so elegant, and sexy at the same damn time. How is it possible for someone to look so beautiful? As she approached the alter steadily, I noticed how her hair flowed in wavy curls down her back, loose and simple, yet so ravishing. I gave her a lighthearted wink, in which made her giggle nervously under her breath. Her smile was radiant, and she appeared to glow with pure happiness.
"You look beautiful", I whispered into her ear when she eventually reached my stance.
A bashful smile grew on her mouth, and I held out my hands for her hold. I found myself infatuated with the raven haired witch yet again, and I'm moments away from having her all to myself.
Wendy then cleared her throat as she positioned herself closer to us. "Friends and family, we're gathered here today in this beautiful garden, to witness the matrimony of Kai and Lyla", she spoke in a clear and elated voice.
-" I put my trust in mr. parker the day I found out Lyla was free from her families torment, and he proved not only to me that he would always look out for her, but to everyone who knows them both. I'm so, so happy for you both, and I wish you a lifetime of happiness", she gently squeezed our shoulders before continuing. "Girls, if you could bring over the rings".
I diverted my gaze to the right side of the alter, where both of my little nieces started to walk towards us baring the wedding rings. I flash the pair an appreciative smile as they handed the silver rings to Wendy, giving an adorable curtsy before walking back to their seats in the front row. The virgo then handed me Lyla's ring, and vice versa to Lyla, then began solemnize us.
"Kai, do you take Lyla to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to cherish her for as long as you both live? Do you promise to always to be kind, patient and compassionate, even in times of distress?", wendy asked.
I licked my lips quickly before responding, staring into Lyla's ocean irises. "I do".
"Lyla, do you take Kai to be your wedded husband? Do you promise to be kind, nurturing and caring, even in times of distress? Do you promise to love him wholeheartedly for as long as you both live?".
"I do", her sweet voice replied.
Oh my God, its happening.
"Then by the power invested in me by the Virgo coven, I now pronounce you husband and wife", Wendy finished with tears forming in her tear ducts.
I wasted no time in pulling her into my grasp, placing my lips on top of hers. The feeling that radiated from my body when I finally kissed my wife, was utterly blissful. It was like I just took my first breath in life, like I had just experienced happiness for the first time. Once I pulled away from her lips, everyone around us cheered and whistled, their hands clapped in rhythmic sounds and I couldn't help but smile like an idiot. This is what happiness feels like. This moment has made me realise what I've been missing out on my entire life. Love. No one has made me feel so wholesome and loved like she does, it makes me grateful for being in that lonely prison world for eighteen years.
Because if I hadn't of been there, I wouldn't have met Lyla. I would still be the loner with no empathy or hope. Not anymore.
Love really does conquer all.
