Lyla's Pov"You're listening to City coast am, the radio station that brings you the best in everything-"
We opted for a commercial flight to Oregon. With it being on the other side of the United states, a car journey would've been out of the question. My mind was still in overdrive with everything yesterday brought me.
My mother, although a cold hearted individual, was still my mother. So of course I didn't like the idea of seeing her on her alleged deathbed. Kai on the other hand, welcomed the image.
-" police are still ongoing with their recent investigation into the disappearance of ten children that occurred last week. Chief executive of the Portland police department speculates there is more than one person involved in the disappearances, but there is still no concrete suspects at the present time. In other news, the presidential campaign is causing-"
"Why'd you turn it off?", I lifted my head off of the rented car window to face the brunette.
"I hate politics, especially when I have to listen to it", he mumbled in an exhaustive manner.
After arriving in Salem Kai made it our first priority to get a car to rent. He insisted it would be better than relying on uber. It was a fifty minute drive to Spree, and we're currently halfway there.
"Are you sure we can't just stay in a motel or something? I don't really like the idea of staying with your aunt", kai exhaled through his mouth as we drove down the quiet highway.
"By all means if you wanna stay at a motel, you can. I'd personally rather stay at Wendy's. Theres so much shit I have to figure out, it'll just be easier you know?"
"I guess so. Do you think she can be trusted?"
I hesitated an answer for a brief moment, could I trust her? "Truth be told, I've no idea. She wasn't exactly close to my parents though. She would show up to the monthly gatherings but other than that, I never saw her around the house. I guess its possible she's telling the truth about being remorseful".
I gazed outside the car window at the passing crop fields, the yellow colours reflected on my skin, a slight breeze flowed through the black jeep satisfying my need for cool air. The things I've been through the past few months have been so surreal. Going from a quiet girl being confined around the family home, to a more outgoing and stronger woman has been a change long overdue.
"Just so you know, I'm going to be by your side one hundred percent. So if you need any kind of guidance, or, whatever, um- I'm here", kai stammered, trying his best to sound supportive.
It made my heart melt.
"Kai parker, you're sweet beyond words", I beamed with content at his tanned face. "Whether you believe it or not, you've been such a light to my darkness these past few months. Thank you".
With that, the brunette glanced at me with pure gratitude and loveliness. " I love you, blue eyes", he squeezed my hand affectionately.
I could thank the prison world, destiny, fate or being shunned. But above those possible reasons was the actual reason behind my growth- malachai parker.
He made me realise I'm strong, I don't need to be afraid of the world. I don't need to be afraid of my coven, or take what's rightfully mine. Which is exactly what I plan on doing. I don't have to take my mother's place as coven leader, but I can take back what was taken from me, what was sucked from me.
My magic.
-
After directing the siphon to my aunt Wendy's ranch, we pulled up outside the recently refurbished house. It was on the outskirts of Spree, in the countryside.
