Chapter 17

Maeve's POV

“Huy, okay ka lang?” Felicity asked, both of us nasa harap lang ng pond, me staring at nothing.

“Fine.. I'm fine.” I said and sighed glancing at Grim for a second.

He was sitting on top of one of the branches of a tree, his hair a mess pagkatapos ko syang sabunutan after he kissed me.

Nabigla ako sa ginawa nya, it wasn't accidental kasi talagang nag-lean sya sakin.
But at least he teleported the three of us dito sa may garden again and I don't think aalis pa ako dito, well not until makabalik ulit ako sa katawan ko.

We stayed in that awkward silence for a few more minutes until mag-salita si Felicity.

“My, I can't take this anymore, mag-usap nga kayo!” she huffed and I shrugged.

“Bakit di mo kausapin?”

“It's not..” she said and let out a frustrated groan.
“Fine.”

Tumayo sya mula sa tabi ko at pumunta kay Grim,
“So, gano katagal yung pinaka-matandang kaluluwa dito?” Felicity asked.

“Tatlongput pitong taon, isang daan at isang araw.” Maiksing sagot ni Grim.

“Halos 38 years?! Grabe naman ang tagal naman.” She said,

“Mhm.” Grim replied and everything went silent again,

“Tingin mo magtatagal kami ng ganun ni Maeve dito?” She asked once again, obviously she's trying to make the conversation longer.

“Siguro.” Grim replied na hindi man nakatingin sakanya.

Natawa ako ng kaunti at how bad their conversation is, making Grim turn his head to look at me.
We both made eye contact at agad akong umiwas ng tingin.

“Mag-usap nga kayo!” Felicity said,
“It's just a kiss for pete's sake! Ang awkward, it's not like first kiss nyo yun, act like an adult at hindi parang mga teenagers, gosh.”

I rolled my eyes at Felicity and Grim coughed awkwardly,
“Unang halik ko yun.”

Pareho kaming napatingin kay Grim,
“Seriously?” tanong ni Felicity and he nodded,
“So does that mean na first love mo din sya?”

Grim ponders for a moment before a small smile appeared on his lips,
“Oo.”

Felicity clasped her hands together excitedly,
“Oh em gee, really?”

Tumango ulit si Grim for what seemed like the tenth time.
“So how does it feel to be kissed by your first love?”

“Stop that.” Sabi ko making her look at me,
“You're making him uncomfortable.”

“You sure?” Felicity asked and motion her head towards Grim na ngingiti-ngiti lang.

Kinikilig ata si loko.

“You know what, shut up. Aalis muna ako.” I said,

“At saan ka naman pupunta?” Felicity asked.

“Kahit saan. Malayo dito.” I snapped at naglakad papalayo.

I'm not even sure kung saan ako mapupunta, I just want to get the hell out of there, away from the awkward atmosphere na mas lalong pinalala ni Felicity.
For all I know mas lalo nya kaming pinaglalapit ni Grim so she could have Zephyr.
The nerve of that girl.

Patuloy lang akong naglakad, I know hindi naman ako mawawala since I'm following a straight path, but the more I walk the more darker it gets.
Yung mga puno na nalalagpasan ko para silang mga phase where they're so lively at the start and sa pagpapatuloy ko ng paglalakad, the next trees gets darker and appears to die.
Until after thirty minutes I was surrounded by dark skies and dead trees and leaves.
The fog seems to thicken and for the first time of being here, I felt something.
Cold. Nilalamig ako.

I suddenly heard a giggle.

I whipped my head and saw three girls near me, all of them are looking at me.

“Um, hello..?” I said awkwardly.

Nanlaki ang mga mata nila,
“Di ka takot samin?”

Umiling ako,
“H-Hinde, anong ginagawa nyo rito?”

Ngumiti yung isa,
“Hindi ba dapat sayo namin yan tinatanong? Anong ginagawa ng isang kaluluwa sa lugar namin?”

“Lugar ninyo?” nagtatakang tanong ko.

Yung isa tiningnan nya ako ng masinsinan and after a few seconds, bigla nyang hinila yung dalawa nyang kasama,
“Hindi ba sya yung babaeng yun?”

Parang may narealize yung dalawa at tumango pareho,
“Oo sya nga!”

“Um..” I said, unsure kung anong sasabihin ko,
“Kilala nyo ako?”

The other one giggled,
“Panong hinde eh sikat ka dito?”

This time ako naman ang nabigla,
“Sikat..? Bakit?”

“Kilala mo ang Kamatayan diba?” they said, eyes glinting with malice.

I suddenly felt terrified when all of them cackled, then stopped,
“Ayan na pala sya, at malalaman mo kung bakit..”

Bigla na lang silang nawala sa harapan ko at may biglang humawak sa balikat ko, napasigaw ako,

“Maeve, anong ginagawa mo dito at bakit kausap mo sila?” he asked.

“Kaluluwa din ba sila?” tanong ko.

“Hinde, mga espirito sila.” he said,
“Sila yung tinatawag nyong mga white lady, tyanak, kapre.. Multo. Madami sila at teritoryo nila ito.”

“Akala ko ba hindi totoo ang mga multo?” tanong ko,

“Totoo sila, pero hindi kagaya ng iniisip mo na kaluluwa ng tao.” sabi nya at sa isang iglap nagbalik kami dun sa garden.

Tumalikod sakin si Grim at naglakad papalayo, pero nung nagsalita ako ay humarap ulit sya.
“Grim, may sinabi sila sakin.”

“Anong sinabi?”

“Na sikat raw ako rito, anong ibig nilang sabihin?” tanong ko.

“Wag mo silang pakinggan..” he said which made me more annoyed.

“I need answers Grim! Buhay ko ang nakasalalay dito! What if hindi nako magising?! Bakit nila ako wina-warningan tungkol sayo? Dahil ba sa pesteng delusyon mo ng pagnamahal?! Wake up Grim hindi totoo yung nararamdaman mo!” Sigaw ko, and by the time na tapos nako ay medyo hinihingal ako.
“Just forget kung anong nararamdaman mo sakin and help me find a way para makabalik kami, because no matter what you do, I will never return your feelings.”

I saw how his grip tightened on his scythe, he look at me with a blank look on his face.
And at that moment it dawned on me kung ano ang nasabi ko sakanya.
“G-Grim, I'm sorry.. Hindi ko sinasad--”

“Pano kung sabihin kung Oo, Maeve? Gagawin ko ang lahat para mahalin mo ako?” he said and I stopped,

“Maeve, nung natikman ko ang labi mo mas higit pa yun sa inaasahan ko. Sobrang saya ko Maeve.. Hindi mo alam yun, at sa mundong ito hindi mo ko mauutusan na layuan ka. Gusto ko mahalin mo rin ako.” he said at lumapit sakin.

The Grim Reaper cornered me, and I gaze at him with wide horrified eyes. Too many what ifs na pumapasok sa isip ko. What if I hindi na ko makabalik? What if he has the power to make me stay here forever?

He smirked,
“Sa mundong ito, Akin ka Maeve.”
