Chapter 39

Maeve's POV

“Oh God..” I said as I stared at the ring that he gave me.

The exact ring na ginawa ko para sakanya. Para kay Grim.
The day I married him. It was real. It was all real.
We promised.. I promised.

“Grim. I need to find Grim. Saan ko sya mahahanap?!”I asked him but he just shook his head.

Gusto ko syang makita. I felt so ashamed of myself that I didn't remember him. The person that I love.

“Tell me!” Sigaw ko but he just sighed,

“Maeve, hindi pa kayo pwede ngay--” Before he could continue, I ran away from him.

Fine. If he didn't want to tell me where he is, I'm going to find him myself.
I was running but I'm not sure kung saan ako pupunta, the first place that popped up in my head was my old apartment.. Maybe, maybe he was there. Waiting for me.

God, how could I forget him? How could I forget that I love him? That I married him?
Everything makes sense now.

I was in the apartment but to my dismay, there was nothing there but an empty lot. With construction equipment and construction workers.
Inilibot ko ang paningin ko, my eyes rapidly moving and I tried to think every possible place kung saan ko sya pwedeng makita ulit.
Magpakita Grim, please. Nakikiusap ako. Mag-usap tayo.
That night dun sa ilalim nung bridge.. I wasn't being possessed or hallucinating or anything like that. It was all real and I did really love him.
I closed my eyes remembering the places we've been to before the accident.

The hospital. That's the first time where we met. Clutching my purse agad akong pumunta sa kung saan naghihintay ng jeep.
I know I'm desperate pero kailangan ko na talaga syang makita. I miss him so bad.
It all makes sense. The memories I didn't remember having and si Felicity.. I'm sure di nya ako paniniwalaan kung sasabihin ko sakanya, si Zephyr na lagi akong binibisita nun sa pond and how I know that he always brings me roses. Lahat.
The skies had darken and there are less people now.

“Please Grim, magpakita ka.. If you still love me magpapakita ka sakin.. Nakikiusap ako Grim, prove to me that you are real.” I muttered to myself when something inside of me clicked.

Hindi sya pwedeng magpakita sakin. The day when I woke up from the coma I was in, parang nadikit na yung kaluluwa ko ulit sa katawan ko. Di ko na sya ulit makikita. Ito yung isa sa mga pinakakatakutan ko dati pa when I was still in the garden.
I felt my heart shatter at that thought.
We could never truly be together..

But I want to see him for one last time. Gusto ko sya mismo ang magsundo sakin.
I will never see him unless..

Napadako ang tingin ko sa kalsada where a lot of cars and trucks are passing by. Sobrang bilis nila since wala namang traffic o pedestrian lane sa paligid.

I hope everyone could forgive me. I know my family loves me but Grim is the only person who accepted me nung una pa lang.
I must see him for the very last time.

Tumapak ako sa kalsada, seeing a truck approaching. I took another step and.. and my arm was gently pulled back by a hand.

I turn to look who it was, hoping to see Grim, but to my disappointment it was Sel.
“A-Anong ginagawa mo?”

“Diba dapat sayo ko tinatanong yan?” He said in a cold voice.

“Bitawan mo ko, Sel. Wala kang pakielam sa mga desisyon ko. Gusto ko syang makita at ito lang yung paraan para makita ko sya ulit.” I said feeling myself starting to cry again.

“Diba sinabi sayo ni kamatayan na wag kang maging makasarili.” he said kaya agad akong napatingin sakanya.

“He did. But that has nothing to with this.” Sagot ko.

“Talaga? You're sacrificing your own life para sa ilang segundo na makikita mo si Kamatayan? At ano iiwan mo lahat ng taong nagmamahal sayo? Iiwanan mo yung mga mahal mo sa buhay? Iiwanan mo si kamatayan kahit hindi mo pa oras? Nangako ako sakanya na iingatan kita.” He said.

“What are you talking about?” Naguguluhang tanong ko.

He then motioned me to follow him and I did. We were just walking on a quiet street with only a few people passing by.

“Natatandaan mo pa ba yung sinabi ko kung nasaan ang magulang ko?” he said.

“Aren't they dead?” tanong ko but he shook his head.
“But you said..”

“Maeve, ang sabi ko lang ay nasa taas sya at pinapanood tayo.” he said making my eyes widened.

“Are you.. Are you saying that you're-”

“An angel. Yes. Anghel ako at Selaphiel ang totoo kong pangalan.” he said casually as if it was normal for someone to confess that they're an angel.

“O-Oh..” I said really shocked.
“Pero bakit ka nandito?”

“Nung oras na gumising ka, pinuntahan ni Kamatayan si Ama. Lumuhod sya at sinabing gusto nyang humiling kahit isang beses lang, ang kanyang una at huling kahilingan. Alam ni Ama kung gano nyo kamahal ang isa't isa kaya sinabi nya na kung nasa puso mo pa rin sya kahit nawala na ang lahat ng memorya mo patungkol sakanya, then papayagan nya magiging masaya kayo pero hindi muna ngayon, at hiniling ni Kamatayan na kung hindi mo man sya matandaan ay magpababa sya ng anghel para protektahan at mahalin ka. Kaya eto ako ngayon.. And look at that, mukhang di matutuloy ang pagiging tao ko.” he chuckled.

“You mean..? You planned that lilac thing nung una tayong magpakita? You know all along na nakita ko sya last year nung nasa perya tayo?” I asked.

“I always knew Maeve, na nasa tabi mo lang sya all this time.” he said.

“T-Then..” As soon as I blinked the place we were standing suddenly changed.

Everything was green and the sky was baby blue. The garden.
Napanganga ako. Pano kami napunta dito?

I gaze over at Sel, waiting for answers but he wasn't looking at me. He was looking at someone from behind me.
I turn around.

Napahagulgol na lang ako when I saw Grim, smiling at me.
