Chapter 43: Close Catch

Aviva POV

It was around 3 in the afternoon when I started work wax the stairs. I'm still not exactly sure in what order I should clean. Upper left then right then down? Lower stairs then upper right then-My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. I put my supplies down and made my way to the front door. I opened the door to see Ash. Great. I quickly put on a smile.

"Hello Mr. Landers. How can I help you?" I said calmly.

"Miss Faye, it's a pleasure to see you." Ash said. He pulled an envelope from his coat. "A letter to the young earl from her majesty." He said as I gently took the letter from him.

"I'll bring it to him right away." I said smiling. He took my hand.

"I hope to see you again soon, Miss Aviva." He said before kissing my hand.

"I look forward to it." I said before closing the door.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. How did he know my last name? I never told him it. I never told him it! I looked down at the envelope in my hands. No. No not Houndsworth. An image of Pluto in his human form flashed in my mind. Fuck. I looked up to see Sebastian staring down at me from the stairs. I walked up to meet him and stood a step below him.

"A letter for the young master?" He asked. I nodded and handed him the letter.

"From the Queen." I said.

"Thank you, Aviva. Please return to your duties" He said before going back upstairs.

I smiled brightly. He said just my name. I quickly got rid of my smile. Why do I like it so much when he doesn't say 'miss?' Don't really care to find out right now. So imma just be happy about it. My smile slowly came back.

I went back to work. I decided to start on the upper stairs. When I made my way to where the stairs converge. I heard something from the second floor and I looked up to see Mey-rin carrying a vase of red roses.

"Aviva! Finny cut some roses for you, he did!" She said before stopping at the stairs.

"Mey-rin don't!" I called, trying to stop her.

She slipped down the stairs and ran right into me. On impact she ended up throwing the vase in the air and somehow she sent me flying. I stared hopelessly at the ceiling flying over the lower stairs. After a second I closed my eyes and waited for the inevitable impact. After another moment, I felt an arm around me, stopping my free fall. I opened my eyes to Sebastian with one arm around me and the other holding the vase. I sighed in relief and quickly wrapped my arms around his neck. He wrapped his free arm around my waist and stood up, bringing me to my feet. I had to stand on my toes to keep my arms around him. And to be honest....I didn't want to let go.

"Thank you Sebastian." I whispered.

"You are welcome, Aviva." He said before we reluctantly let go of each other.

He put his hand on my arm and handed me the vase before turning to Mey-rin. She was just gobsmacked at how fast Sebastian appeared.

"You know to be more careful Mey-rin. You are very lucky I happened to be near by. Do not let this happen again." He said.

"Yes sir, Sebastian." She said blushing.

Sebastian turned back to me.

"Are you alright, Aviva?" He asked me. I looked down and nodded. Guess he didn't buy that. He took my chin and made me look up and face him. "Please answer truthfully." He said.

"I'm a little shaken up." I said quietly. He nodded and put his hand on my shoulder.

"Please call for me if you need anything." He said taking his hands back. I nodded and he left.

Mey-rin quickly but carefully made her way to me.

"Are you alright, Aviva? I'm so sorry! I should have stopped when you told me to. I'm glad you're not hurt, I really am." She said a bit frantically. I smiled.

"It's ok Mey-rin dont worry about it! I'm gonna finish on the stairs. I'll see you at dinner?" I said.

"Ok. I'll see you then!" She said before heading off.

I looked down and smiled at the flowers. I have a feeling he would've given me white. However Ciel only trusts Sebastian with those. Speaking of Sebastian. I...I think he's nearby. I don't know why but...

"Aviva." I heard above me. I looked up and...there he is! How...how did I...that was so weird....

"Sebastian?" I said.

"When you finish your work, please join me in the garden." He said.

"Sure thing!" I said smiling.

I could've sworn he smiled. Just a little, before walking off. I wonder what he wants. I placed the vase on the floor and went back to work.

While working I ended up humming and singing "Once Upon a Dream" from Sleeping Beauty quietly. After finishing the stairs, still singing, I got that feeling again. That Sebastian was near by. I stood up and looked around. Huh. I shrugged it off, grabbed my supplies and roses, then went to go put everything away.
