"Bree?" Conner asked in horror. Bree just stood there looking at him with the same bewildered expression on her face.
"What are you doing in the men's bathroom?" Conner asked.
"They started boarding early," Bree said, making up a lie because who would believe that Mrs. Peters waited like two seconds before she sent Bree in after Conner, ^I mean, that's just weird.^ "Mrs. Peters wanted me to check on you. When I got close to the bathroom I heard voices. I know you don't have a cell phone so I cam in to see who you were talking to- and now after saying that out loud I realize how many privacy laws I just broke." She said, and after thinking about all she had done and saying it out loud was realizing how much of a stalker she really was. ^Way to be cool Bree.^
"How much of my conversation did you hear?" Conner asked.
"Enough," Bree responded blankly.
Conner paused for a moment, it looked as if he had no idea what to say to her now. "Well thank you for coming to check on me but I'm not going home," he said. ^Seriously, if she had heard enough of his conversation with Mother Goose she would know that. Come on, how dumb was this kid? Well, he probably had a lot of pressure on him since now he was going to save another dimension, so it was forgivable.^
"I gathered," Bree said.
"Please don't tell Mrs. Peters wherein going," Conner pleaded with Bree. "There is someone in London I really need to meet. It's really important."
Bree's face finally returned to its normal state, she had an idea now. She bobbed her head quietly side to side as she thought out her plan with utmost care, thinking over every detail. "I won't tell anyone," she said, and she saw the color return to Conner's face. "Because I'm going with you." She said.
She'd always wanted to have a big adventure to go on, and Conner was going to supply that for her whether he wanted to or not.
Conner shook his head in disbelief at this. "What? You can't go with me- you don't even know what's going on."
Come on. She just crossed her arms and said, "I've known something was going on since the plane ride to Germany. Your sister disappeared last year with almost no explanation, you knew the plots of fairy tales that hadn't seen the light of day for two hundred years, and I just caught you communicating with a woman called Mother Goose about an army invading another dimension." She said, stating all the facts, except for stalking him to the cemetery that one night.
Conner closed his eyes, it looked as if he didn't have enough brain power to make up a lie big enough for this.
"With all that in mind, my best guess is that you are somehow connected to the fairytale world, and now you have to make sure an army from the 1800's isn't going to cross into that world and put your sister and grandmother in jeopardy. Did I miss anything?" Bree said in all one breath. She's as Conner's stunned face and smirked, reading all those murder mysteries sure had paid off for her.
"Okay, I guess the dots aren't that hard to connect," Conner said, sighing. "But there's no way that you're going with me. Do you know how much trouble you'd get into?"
Bree tipped her head towards the ceiling and grunted, ^why wouldn't this boy take her seriously? She could live with trouble and punishment, she couldn't live with knowing that a fairytale world exists and knowing that she could of gone, and didn't.^ "I can live with trouble. I'll tell you what I can't live with is one more conversation between the Book-Huggers about a boy band or a fictitious relationship from a novel. I have three younger sisters- I went to Germany to escape from all that and to have a 'European adventure'. So far it seems that you're the only person that can supply that and you could probably use the help so I'm going with you whether you like it or not." She said, not even trying to hide her excited smile and eyes.
Conner's mouth and eyes were wide open, apparently he had never seen her this happy, she had never been this happy in her life if she was being honest.
"How are you taking all this so well?" He asked. "Don't you think the idea of another dimension seems insane?"
"Not at all," Bree said. "I'm a writer, too, Conner, and the reason I write is because I've always believed there is more to life than most people are willing to believe. You're just the first person to prove it to me."
Conner smiled and contemplated it for a minute. When he looked into her eyes he smiled a smile of remembrance. He seemed to be remembering something or someone with the excitement in Bree's eyes.
"All right you can come," Conner told her, and she just about screamed with excitement. "As long as you promise to never share with another soul anything you've found out or anything you might see."
Bree nodded, ^why would she ever tell anyone about this, even if she did, would anybody listen to her, no.^ Bree nodded slowly, taking it all in, and smiled for like the first time in like ever. And it was a genuine smile at that. "I promise," she said, and Conner looked as if he knew he could trust her.
"Good, now let's sneak out of an airport," he said. ^I got this.^
They peered out of the men's bathroom and glanced over to the gate that the rest of their schoolmates and principal were standing at. The five of them stood there impatiently waiting for them to return. Mrs. Peters scanned the area trying to see where they had gone. Then she looked at her watch, and Conner and Bree took that as a cue. They held their luggage tightly and bolted from the bathroom. They ran all the way down the multiple hallways, following the exit signs to customs.
"We got this- just follow my lead," Bree said. They got in line, keeping their heads down in case Mrs. Peters came looking for them. When it was Bree's turn, she walked up to the customs officer and presented her passport.
"Are you here for business or pleasure?" He asked her in a groggy voice.
"Pleasure," Bree said calmly, then she racked her brain for things that were popular in London and came up with the most logical solution. "I've come to visit my aunt and see a few shows on West End."^Nice save, Bree.^
She knew she was pretty could at the deception thing, but when she looked back at Conner, the shocked look on his face made her realize just how good she was at it. The customs officer stamped her passport and she moved along.
Bree stood there as Conner made his way up to the customs officer and handed him his passport with a look of confidence, this couldn't go well.
"Are you here for business or pleasure?" The office asked him.
"Pleasure," Conner replied. "I'm here for the food."
The customs officer flinched at the same time as Bree then looked at Conner strangely. "The food?" The officer asked, bewildered.
Bree slapped her play against her forehead. First, he said that he came to Great Britain for the food, and now the guard was asking him about it. Not a good start on saving another dimension, Conner.
Conner panicked for a moment and then responded. "You've never heard of the Food?" He went on. "They're only the greatest singing quartet of chefs-turned-tenors on the planet! They have a concert at the Buckinghamshirevilleton Coliseum. Here let me give you one of their albums."
Conner reached for his suitcase but the customs officer put a hand up to stop him. "Please don't," He said. He stamped Conner's passport and sent him on his way. Bree was appalled that that actually worked, even with the whole Buckinghamshirevilleton thing. "Buckinghamshirevilleton?" She whispered. "Are you out of your mind? How are you supposed to save another dimension when you can't even get out of an airport?"
"Give me a break- obviously I'm under a lot of pressure!" Conner whispered back.
They made it outside of the airport and stood on the curb for a moment before Bree asked, "How are we going to get to central London? Are we old enough to take a taxi by ourselves?"
Conner looked down the curb and his eyes landed on something. Bree followed his line of sight and saw a bus parked by the curb with a group of loud obnoxious teenagers filing onto it. There was only one chaperone, and she looked like she was going to rip her hair out at any moment. She yelled some threat to the kids to try to get them under control, but it didn't work in the slightest.
Conner gestured for Bree to follow him and walked over to the bus. "Keep your head down, I have an idea," he said. They both looked at the ground and joined the line of students boarding the bus. The line was moving so quickly that the chaperone just gave up on the idea of crossing of names and just made sure that everyone was on the bus. Conner and Bree boarded the bus effortlessly and took a seat in the back. They were on their way to save another dimension.
