The famed hideout turns out to be Hidan's garage, which I've become pretty accustomed to over the course of the past few months. It's not so much a garage as a second house, with everything except a bathroom, kitchen and toilet in it. Overall, it's like a huge living room with a bed, TV, two couches plus an armchair, and a fridge in it.
Half an hour in and Akatsuki members still trickle into the hideout, and I'm on my toes with every introduction, just waiting for Itachi to walk in through the rolled up metal door.
"No Itachi?" says a man who was introduced to me as Pain. My initial reaction was "ooh, scary name for a scary wannabe thug leader !!" but then, eh. It kinda wore off after a while.
"It's not like Ita to not show up," says Deidara, wiggling his eyebrows at me. "Perhaps [Name]'s pungent presence drove him away?"
"Watch it," I say warningly, giving him 'the look.' He wilts under my gaze and coughs into his wrist, quickly looking around. I sit on one couch with him, Hidan and Konan, who had been showing me how to make all sorts of creations with paper that I'm literally blown away with. On the other couch sits a grumpy old man named Kakuzu, who looks like he's been on the pot for way too long, a guy with cool bluish tinged skin called Kisame, a quiet, stoic redhead named Sasori, and a bipolar man named Zetsu, who's always talking to himself when no one's looking. A hyperactive boy by the name of Tobi's jumping around the place (honestly, is he like twelve?), and Pain himself sits on the lone armchair, sighing as he leans his elbow on the armrest.
"Right, let's get this started. Tobi, the door," says Pain lazily, sighing as his eyes examine the group of crude men and woman surrounding him. An ever enthusiastic Tobi bounds to the door and rolls it down, landing with a thud as the metal scrapes the concrete ground. He returns to the group and settles at Deidara's feet, beaming brightly. "Okay, welcome back guys. As you can see, we have [Name] here. I take it you're interested in joining, [Name]?" I resist the urge to snort. Interested in joining a wannabe thug club? Sure, why not? Sarcasm at its finest.
"Ah, not really, Deidara and Hidan just kinda dragged me along..." The two groan, and Deidara facepalms, making the urge to laugh out loud even realer.
"You don't even know what we do!" cries Deidara, shaking his head. "Come on, [Name], it'll be fun!"
"What do you guys do, exactly?" I raise an eyebrow at Pain, who's rubbing his temples with his forefingers.
"The Akatsuki are a non-profit organisation..." he mumbles under his breath, looking tired and annoyed as hell. It's not really an answer, but there's no harm in joining a bunch of wannabe thugs, right? I doubt they'll even have another meeting after this one; everyone seems, well, not the type to be thugging around, if you get what I mean. I smile at Pain.
"Where do I sign up?" I ask cheerfully. Pain raises an eyebrow.
"Are you sure you want to join? From what Deidara and Hidan have told me, you have very upright morals," he says pointedly, looking bored already. I shrug.
"Do I have to kill anyone, be an escort, deal with illegal drugs, or sell my body for sex?"
"Depends on how you feel, no, maybe, and no," says Pain, looking as if he's heard it all. I take no heed, anyway; I'm pretty sure none of that will happen, because to be honest, the Akatsuki now look kinda... um... non-threatening? Smoking weed in garages and getting drunk, I can handle.
"Welcome to the Akatsuki!" cheers Dei loudly, slapping me on the back. I giggle. I'm a part of a wannabe thug club now <3
