Theo shot up from the couch, almost falling over the coffee table as he got up in haste. He was staring at you with wide eyes, pale like he'd seen a ghost. And with how well he'd cut himself off, you supposed you were a ghost to him.
"Theo?" You asked, confused. Was this not the right place again? Was the only reason there was a teleportation device downstairs because Theo had built it? If so, why was he building more teleportation machines? And why had their been a magnetic pulse here? Was he using it?
"What are you doing here?" Theo asked.
"Could ask you the same thing." Laurie said, peering around you from the stairs.
"This isn't your grandparents house, is it?" You asked.
"Why does she have a knife?" Theo asked, taking another step back. Laurie moved you to the side, stepping out into the living room, Lee behind her.
"We're not here to rob you, we swear." Lee said.
"Doesn't seem like that." Theo reached for his phone.
"Theo." You said. "I promise."
Theo picked up his phone.
Something crashed upstairs.
Everyone's eyes shot up to the ceiling. There was a moment of pure silence.
And then a few feet away, the air bent and shifted, and TelePro stepped out of the void. "Kid, run downstairs and get my gun, Spider-Man..." He trailed off, noticing the other people in the room.
Lee threw the pipe he was holding.
TelePro tapped his watch, disappearing again, and the pipe hit the wall uselessly.
You turned to Lee. "He's going to get his gun."
Peter clattered down the stairs, sprinting into the kitchen. "Where'd he go?"
"He's grabbing his gun downstairs." Lee said, picking up his pipe.
Peter breezed right past Theo without saying anything and leapt down the basement stairs.
"Why'd he call you kid?"
You turned to see Laurie staring Theo down.
Theo glanced at you. "Please, you wouldn't understand."
No.
"My dad got shot because he dragged you out of the way." Laurie said, her voice low and dangerous as she walked around the sofa separating herself and Theo. Theo scrambled backward, finally tripping over the coffee table and hitting the floor.
"I didnt mean to endanger anyone, please." Theo wheezed. "He's paying for my grandmother's medication, she needs it to survive, we cant afford it-"
"Save it for someone who cares." Laurie snapped. "You were the one who gave him that window into the open house. This is all your fault."
Theo rolled away, scrambling across the floor. "But he's right! You know he's right! People like Stark and Harrington deserved it!"
You felt yourself move before you registered what was happening. You grabbed Laurie's arm, holding her back. This wasn't TelePro. TelePro was downstairs with Peter. This was Theo.
"Laurie." You said, trying to hold her in place as she struggled to pry your hands off. "TelePro went downstairs-"
"My dad was protecting him." Laurie said. "My dad got shot for no fucking reason, all because of him!"
"Laurie please." You pleaded. "It's Theo. He didnt mean it, you saw how torn up he was-"
"Was he?" Laurie shouted. "Or was it just an act to get him out of the limelight so he could come here and help that motherfucker with his next hit? Did he actually care about any of it? My guess is no!"
