Scarlette recently lost her mother and has been on the run ever since. She has no idea that she is one of the most powerful witches around. She meets a mysterious stranger, feels a pull to him not knowing he has dark secrets of his own. What happens...
When I answered Mitch's call, I was not expecting him to be screaming, and definitely not what he was screaming about. I froze when he screamed that Jax attacked Scarlette. It was hard to understand everything that he was screaming, so I told him to come to my manor.
I filled my glass with ice and whiskey and slowly sipped it wondering what the hell was going on. How could Jax attack his own mate? That alone made no sense. I could hear Mitch's car speeding into my driveway, so I hurried to open my front door. I was not prepared to see the condition that Scarlette was in when Mitch ran through my front door carrying her. Chloe ran in behind them crying hysterically.
I closed the door and followed them to my guest suite, following the drops of blood that now covered my hallway floor. I hissed at the enticing smell, but pushed my focus back on Scarlette. I walked into the guest suite slowly, trying to think of any rational reason why this could have happened. I couldn't.
"She's dying Mitch!" Chloe sobbed as she held Scarlette in her arms on my guest bed. Mitch was pacing back and forth, covered in her blood as he breathed heavily. I looked back at Scarlette in shock as I took in the damage Jax had done.

I approached Chloe and Scarlette cautiously, as I heard Scarlette's heart beat become faint and her breaths shallow. Mitch turned around and looked at me, despair in his eyes. "Jareth, I need you to save her." He barely said aloud, his voice came out hoarse and raspy.
"How?" I asked them, but I knew how. I just just couldn't believe that they were asking me to do this. I had no problem helping Scarlette, but this? This could change everything. The prophecy, her ability to have pups, her mate..." I internally growled when I thought of Jax.
"You have to change her Jareth!" Chloe sobbed, "I tried spells on our way here, nothing worked! If you don't change her, she will die!" I grimaced when Chloe said that. I couldn't just stand back and watch Scarlette die. Definitely not like this. Damnit.
"Mitch, go grab towels, a big bowl of warm water, and some rags." I ordered to him as I rolled up my sleeves. The least we could do was clean her up, after all we had no clue how she was going to react when this was over. Mitch nodded his head at me, took one more glance at Chloe and Scarlette and stormed out of the room. "Chloe, I need you to move away from Scarlette so I can do this." I calmly told her. I knew she wouldn't want to, she was afraid to.
Chloe stared up at me, looked back down at Scarlette and slowly nodded her head. "Okay." She whimpered as she gently lay her best friend's head down onto the pillow. Chloe climbed off of the bed and walked over to me. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tight. She was trying to stop crying, but I understood. This was all so unbelievable.

I released Chloe from my arms at the sound of Mitch's low warning growl. I approached Scarlette on the bed. She was barely breathing now, gashes covered her beautiful body. I sat down on the edge of the bed and grazed my fingers down the side of her face. "Jareth." Mitch growled lowly. "There's no turning back from this Mitch." I reminded him harshly. "Nor is there from her dying!" Mitch spat out, his eyes wide. I simply nodded my head as I looked back down at this beautiful, broken girl.
I slowly, carefully pulled Scarlette into my arms. The sweet smell of her blood called out to me. I pulled her blood soaked hair away from her neck, when I saw Jax's mark and it looked broken. I bit back a growl as I slightly tilted her head, closing my eyes. I felt my fangs elongate down, and bit into Scarlette's neck. She was barely still there and didn't even stiffen up when I bit into her. I drank her blood until her heart stopped, which didn't take that long considering the state she was in. I removed my fangs from her neck, and bit into my wrist. I placed my wrist into her mouth, allowing my venomous blood to enter.
I sucked in a breath when I felt Scarlette's hand shoot up and grip my arm. She began to drink my blood quickly and eagerly. I had to force her to stop when she drank enough and when she looked up at me, her eyes grew wide in a panic. "Shhhh." I whispered as I watched her eyelids flutter shut. She was going to need her rest. Not only was her body going to be going through this transition, but she was going to be healing from everything Jax did to her.
I motioned for Mitch to bring me the rags and water, which he did as he solemnly looked down at Scarlette. I began to gently clean her blood off of her, becoming infuriated more and more with Jax. Chloe stepped forward and placed her hand on my shoulder. "Let me." She whispered to me. I stopped what I was doing and nodded my head to her. I needed to get some air, and some answers.
Mitch followed me outside to my patio and slumped down onto a chair. He looked exhausted. "What the fuck happened?" I growled, trying to keep my voice down. Mitch glanced up at me with pain, anger, and confusion all laced in his eyes. He told me everything that he knew, starting with Scarlette mindlinking Chloe from the apartment and ending with the current situation. I grew angrier with each part that he told me, especially when he mentioned Margo and Jax being together.
"How is this even possible Mitch? Scarlette is his mate, not Margo!" I yelled at him. "Fucking Margo!" I yelled even louder. "I wish I knew Jareth." He answered me with a shake of his head. "This morning, everything was fine, normal even. We left for fucking brunch and then bam!" Mitch told me and then held his head in his hands.
There was something sinister behind this, mates don't just turn on each other and choose another. It doesn't work like that. I had so many questions, but didn't even know where to begin. I sighed as I stared up at the moon. "Get some sleep Mitch, when she wakes up..." I warned him quietly. "You're right. Thank you for saving her Jareth." He told me as he stood up to head inside. I simply nodded and stared back up at the night sky. Tomorrow would interesting, I thought to myself grimly.
