The wind rustled through the branches of the oak trees nearby. A few boys who decided to play the entire day instead of studying in class were playing soccer in the vast green ground unbothered of the scorching heat of the noon. It was lunch and Kai squatted down on the pathways that squared the ground. A drop of sweat trickled down the side of his face and he loosened the tie around his neck feeling a bit giddy from the exhaustion of playing on an empty stomach. Baekhyun was searching for him but he'd wandered off to get some alone time. He rested his palms on the ground, threw his head back to face the clear blue sky. He ignored the faint growl of his stomach and closed his eyes feeling the sun bath his golden tanned skin. A shadow cast upon him and he opened his eyes to be greeted by the blurry face of a grinning kid that appeared upside down. He tilted his head to look upright wiping his face off the precipitation.
"Samchun," the kid said and wrapped his tiny arms around his neck.
"Taeoh-ah," Kai gasped in surprise and stood on his feet carrying the little one on his back.
He mumbled affectionate words and threw the giggling kid up in the air and back in his arms.
"When will you come home?" little Taeoh complained with a frown.
"Very soon," he assured back nuzzling the kid's nose.
"Kai! Put him down," a woman's voice commanded and he turned back to look at his sister.
"Taeoh, come back," she ordered as his nephew clung onto his leg reluctantly.
"Come!" the lady ordered.
At that, the kid ran back to his mother.
"When you grow up, don't end up like him," she said pointing a finger at Kai. "You need to study well, okay?"
She shot a glare at Kai one last time before walking away. The kid glanced over his shoulder and mouthed, "Come back home soon, samchun," waving a bye and grinning from ear to ear while being dragged away by his mother.
Kai let out a frustrated sigh and sprinted away from the ground. He groped his pant pocket until he found the cigarette packet. Leaning against a wall nearby, he kicked the gravel stones muttering a string of curses about his stupid life. He had ended up at the bottom rank of his class. The girls walking around nudged and giggled at each other charmed by his machismo thinking how it would be to toy around with a rogue boyfriend like him. He unbuttoned the collar button of his shirt, lowered his head jabbing the cigarette to the corner of his lips and set it alight with a red lighter.
"Excuse me!" said a girl's voice, he looked up to find Soyeon. "No smoking in school grounds."
He removed the stick meticulously between his fingers to huff out smoke and kept it back in his mouth completely disregarding her presence.
