Class monitors usually arrived first to the class.

Soyeon entered and set down her backpack on the front desk before slowly walking over to roll up the curtains, letting in the sunbeams seep into the classroom. The short haired girl then fixed the flyers on the pin-up board and purposely climbed atop Mr. Oh's chair to swipe clean their green board when she could have easily used one of the students' desks. Something said her that he was the reason for Hazel's absence. The chalk moved along the board as she wrote down the date and a quote. Her face lit up as she recalled a different situation that used to happen.

Under normal circumstances, Kyungsoo - the other monitor - used to accompany her in doing the chores while discussing about the novel that the two would've read just the night before. But since last month, Kyungsoo had been arriving alongwith Hazel in his car, making him fifteen minutes late than usual. She climbed down Mr.Oh's chair, making sure that it was dirty with her shoe prints.

Alerted by the echoes resounding in the empty corridor, Soyeon hurriedly took her seat in the front. Opening a book, she pretended to read with eyes transfixed on the words while her mind kept begging her to look up at Kyungsoo and Hazel who had just arrived.

She didn't want this.

She wanted to talk - sort things out - but all that remained in her head. Each of her inhale and exhale was audible to her ears as she nervously sat, still hoping to hear from Hazel who only whizzed past her desk and sat somewhere in the middle row. Neither of them had spoken to each other and today seemed to be no different.

Little by little, the classroom grew louder and it was already grouped up while she was, as usual, sitting alone. Still pretending to read, she silently stayed vigilant to the conversation of the girls who were huddled around Hazel's desk; the other section girls who were supposedly her newfound friends.

"Even that worthless Sooah got picked up?! How have I not experienced that in 16 years!" Ahra threw her hands up in disbelief.

"Meh, let it be." Jangmi waved a hand, "He must be average looking."

"Have you guys watched the new series?" Soyeon listened to Hazel talk cheerfully. From what she heard, Hazel being down with fever was apparently the reason for her absence which she thoroughly deemed as false.

"How's this picture for a profile pic?" Chaerin asked, pointing at her phone screen. "This picture-woah, wait! Omg! Hazel, that's such a cute phone case," she chirped in a sing-song manner. "Your phone has three cameras on it! That explains why your pics come out so well."

Soyeon pursed her lips tight, restlessly bouncing her knees beneath the desk. From the brief encounter that she had with those girls at the ball, she loathed them.
