Gonk stood with Obi-Wan in the center of the Council chamber once again. They stood side by side, the Jedi with a hand clasped over his mouth and the droid nervously shuffling back and forth on his little feet.

"I have a bad feeling about this," Obi-Wan mussed.

In front of them, Qui-Gon and Anakin waited patiently for the Council to share their decision concerning Anakin and Gonk being trained. Gonk hoped Gonk had done enough to impress them, but Gonk wasn't sure anything could impress Master Windu.

"Correct you were, Qui-Gon," Yoda said, then paused. The green alien glanced at Obi-Wan. "As were you, padawan."

"Anakin?" Qui-Gon pressed.

"His cells contain a high concentration of midi-chlorians," Mace Windu said.

"The Force is strong with him," Ki-Andi added.

"He's to be trained, then." Master Qui-Gon Jinn crossed his arms and looked down his long nose at the council.

"No." Mace Windu sat forward. "He will not be trained."

At once Anakin dropped his head. Gonk heard him sniffle. Gonk wondered what would happen to Gonk if the Council rejected him too. Gonk couldn't cry, but Gonk knew Gonk would be very upset. Gonk might fall over.

Maybe Gonk would short-circuit.

"No?" Qui-Gon said. He missed Obi-Wan's sly smile, but Gonk noticed it. Gonk wanted to ask why this pleased Obi-Wan, but Gonk didn't dare interrupt the Council.

Master Windu crossed his arms. "He is too old. There is already too much anger in him."

"He is the chosen one. You must see it."

"Clouded, this boy's future is." Yoda said. "Different, the droid is."

"I will train Anakin, then. I take Anakin as my padawan learner." Qui-Gon spoke quickly, speaking on instinct.

"Gonk," Gonk said rather worried. Only Anakin seemed pleased by the comment.

"An apprentice, you have, Qui-Gon. Impossible, to take on a second," Yoda said.

"We forbid it," Windu declared.

Qui-Gon did not give in easily. "Obi-Wan is ready."

"I am ready to face the trails!" Obi-Wan said, jumping forward. Gonk struggled to decide if Obi-Wan was excited about losing his Master or nervous about the quick development of the conversation.

"Ready so early, are you? What know you of ready?"

Anakin moved discretely, ducking to Gonk's side. His small eyes were focused on the two Jedi they had travelled with, as was Gonk's attention.

"There is little more he will learn from me," Qui-Gon pressed.

"More to learn he has," Yoda argued. "As we all do. Shows this the droid does. Strong with the Force, he is. Too old, also he is. Pity I feel."

"Now is not the time for this," Mace Windu practically yawned. "Go with the queen to Naboo and discover the identity of the dark warrior. We need to unravel this mystery of the Sith."

"Young Skywalker's fate will be decided later."

"As will Gonks." Windu's lips settled in a straight line. "Protect the queen, but do not intercede if it comes to war until we have the Senate's approval."

Gonk arched his boxed body and looked up at Obi-Wan as Gonk shuffled out alongside Gonk's companions. Gonk sensed things had gone very badly indeed. Anakin was upset and the two Jedi ignored each other.

They had been right to have a bad feeling about the meeting.
