Gonk stood by the window of the ship and stared at the darkness of space. Gonk looked at the stars and Gonk looked at the planet Tattooine as it faded away, but Gonk failed to see what Gonk was looking at.
While Gonk's body might have been aboard the ship with Anakin and Gonk's other companions, Gonk's mind was far away as Gonk reached out with the Force to try to find out if Master Obi-Wan was alright.
Gonk wasn't sure if that was how the Force worked, but Gonk was starting to think anything was possible. Gonk was a Jedi, after all.
When Gonk had seen Obi-Wan's message, Gonk had known something awful had happened. It wasn't like Obi-Wan to get caught in a straightforward trap - he was smarter than that. Or at least Gonk thought so.
A loud whistle came from R2-D2 as Gonk's fellow droid drew up alongside Gonk.
"Gonk," Gonk said, returning to the present. Outside the window the dry planet of Geonosis waited silently as if the whole world was holding its breath.
"Gonk, you stay with the ship," Anakin said as they landed. "Make sure those two don't get into any trouble." He motioned towards R2 and C-3PO and Gonk did Gonk's best to nod. Gonk worried it looked like Gonk was about to fall over.
"Gonk," Gonk said.
"Yeah, I know," Anakin answered as he placed a hand on his lightsaber hilt. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
Padmé and Anakin hurried off the ship, talking about how they would approach the situation. It seemed Padmé wanted to try some negotiations and talk things out with whoever was in charge of these parts.
"Gonk," Gonk said in a very tired fashion. If only Obi-Wan had been rescuing Anakin and Padmé. His negotiations were always short.
R2 gave a supportive whistle, then started pushing C-3PO out the door. Gonk stomped his little feet and the blue droid whistled again, reversed, and then shot forward and shoved C3P-O down the ship's ramp.
Gonk hurried after them as best as Gonk could. Gonk wasted no time looking at the landscape and Gonk used Force speed to catch up.
They entered a strange corridor which made Gonk want to frown. There was no sign of a welcome party - or worse, Padmé and Anakin. Gonk sensed something was wrong, the Force was warning Gonk to be careful, but R2 and C-3PO kept venturing forth.
At the end of R2-D2's corridor there was a strange-looking door. Gonk could hear loud noises coming from the other side and wondered what could possibly be going on in the next room.
"Gonk?" Gonk asked aloud.
"Why, I've no idea. I must admit this whole place is rather sinister. Quite the opposite of where I thought Master Skywalker would take me," C-3PO said.
"Gonk." Gonk thought C-3PO should know that most of the time the Jedi had to go to dangerous places to sort things out.
The door slipped open and R2 gave a victory whistle.
"Well shut me down," C-3PO said as he walked into the doorway. Gonk and R2-D2 looked around the taller droid's legs. "Machines making machines."
"Gonk," Gonk said.
"Yes! Those machines making machines are making machines making machines. Why, R2," C-3PO snapped. "Do stop that! You're going to push me over-"
With one last push from R2-D2, C-3PO fell out the doorway and onto one of the crazy moving belts below. Gonk glanced at R2, but the droid flew out after their yellow friend, leaving Gonk in the doorway staring after them.
Gonk was about to stomp Gonk's feet in protest when Gonk felt something - the Force was telling him Anakin was here!
