"What do you mean you aren't ready?" Tyler asked me carelessly. He floated away from me and curled his long red tail around a nearby boulder. He rolled his eyes and poked me endlessly. His finger keeping a constant rhythm on my shoulder. "Who the hell do you think you are to just turn down this huge ass opportunity?" I growled and threw his hand away, collapsing on the ground and crossing my legs. My wings folded behind me and my tail laid lifeless by my side, only flicking slightly in annoyance at Tyler's comments.

"I don't know man. I mean, I've never really been interested in..." I was cut off by a small rock being thrown my way. I stopped it midair with a pink glow that lit from my hand. My reflexes have always been faster than Tyler's. No matter what, or who, he throws at me I can stop it with the whisk of my fingers.

"You're well prepared to take over your old man's job." He said, ignoring my glare in his direction. "You know how many demons would kill to be in your position? Son of Satan's right-hand man? You were literally born for this job."

"People hate me here Tyler." I leaned back on my hands slightly.

"So what? You're going to become the second most powerful person in the entire underworld. Who cares what those dog shit assholes think?" He tossed a stone in the air and caught it. He twisted and weaved it in-between his fingers, losing himself in the motion. I watched for a bit before I turned my head to look out over the large, barren cliff where Tyler and I were at.

A field of rocks and sharp, crisp edges could be seen in the distance. Everything was some shade of brown, grey, red, or orange. Some small and large demons could be seen flying around or resting near dead trees. If you looked close enough anyone could pick out the tiny training areas and several caves built into the walls. Small fires that constantly burned could also be seen below us. Smoke rose from them and clouded upwards to the rock icicles that hung from the top of the underworld. Sometimes the icicles fell. Normal demons wouldn't be affected by it, seeing as they are basically immortal. I, however, am not a demon.

I was actually born to a human and a demon. Which means, I can die and I will die eventually.

My mother is known down here as the mortal demon. She's a full human who kills at random. It's like her hobby. She's never been caught since she lives in a small town. Sure, less suspects, but that also means more people that know her. My mom can commit perfect crimes because of my dad. He makes sure that her fingerprints don't show up during or after a murder. My mom makes a good name for herself in town and boom! Never caught.

My dad, of course, is basically Satan's unrelated brother. They trust each other a lot and even though my dad's never actually seen Satan with his own eyes, he would give his life for him. My dad basically drags demons and fallen angels down here and runs errands for Satan. He goes on the occasional killing spree with my mother but other than that it's mostly work for him. I never really see him unless it's for training. He's been grooming me my entire life to take over his job.

The thing is, I don't want it.

"Underworld to Luke? You there?" Tyler started to wave his hand in front of my face and whistled lightly. I shook my head and stared at him. He grumbled and stuck his hands into his pockets. "You zoned out again."

"Sorry, I'm just thinking."

"Thinking about what? About how you're going to give your best buddy Tyler a job working with you?" He crossed his arms with a playful smile. I only gave a small huff in response.

"I thought you were going to join the reaper squad?" I asked standing up and dusting red dirt from my pants. My long claws nicked a hole in the fabric and I had to yank it out with a sigh. Dammit I really liked these pants.
