I don't remember how exactly we got in this position. Mini and I left the hospital room and went into the main lobby. His mother went to grab some food from the cafe and left us here alone. I remember talking before Mini leaned on my arm and instantly fell asleep. It was like he hadn't slept well in weeks. Mini's arms had gripped tight around my right bicep. His face was pressed as close to my shoulder as possible. He was holding on to me as if I would leave him at any moment.

Not that I'm going to complain about it...

My legs were crossed and in my hands is a news magazine. I was mindlessly searching through the magazine, not paying it too much mind, until I saw a small article that caught my eye. It was by an anonymous writer tilted Something Big Is Coming.

The article was all over the place. It sounded more like a mental person's diary entry than a professional news article. The writer went on about how the weather has been changing and that people have been going missing with no trace. The police aren't doing anything about it and local news outlets don't seem to care enough to put it out there that something is happening to this town.

They said that nothing outside here is seeing these phenomenons. It is just this specific area that is getting hit with all these things. They said that less and less people are coming here, and the residents are either leaving, or dying out.

They called for something to change and the entire paragraph ended with "If we don't leave now, we're all doomed." At the bottom was an email with a bunch of numbers and random letters. I stared at it for a few moments and scanned the words again.

There's no way this person was serious. But still I kept looking, as if the words would change if I stared long enough. Something about this news article was wrong.

Out of place.

I took a look around me and saw no one near. I ripped the small square out of the newspaper and stuffed it in my jacket's pocket. Mini stirred beside me. I set down the magazine next to me and leaned on my hand, pretending to be bored.

Mini opened his eyes and stared at his arms that were wrapped around mine. He flinched and pulled his arms back quickly, almost knocking my arm down in the process.

"Oh! Sorry I must have fell asleep." He apologized with a cough. I just gave a small nod, ignoring his strange behavior.

After a few minutes of an awkward silence, his mother came into view. She was carrying two paper bags filled to the brim with food items. Once she saw that Mini was awake, she sped up her pace and a smile appeared on her face.

"Craig! Sorry it took me a while, the line was huge!" She set down the bags in front of us and leaned down to hug Mini. "I actually think I'm going to stay here a little while longer. You should go home and eat this." Mini nodded.

"I was going to leave anyways." He stood up and yawned. I stood up as well without saying a word. I guess it was obvious at this point that I was going to follow him out.

His mother paused and handed me one of the bags.

"This is for you." I grabbed it with a confused look on my face. Her hand landed on my shoulder in a loving, motherly, way. "It's full of a few different meals for you to give to Luke as well." Her eyes landed back on Mini. "Share with Ryan too. He's going through a lot." He nodded and held his bag of food. I held mine to my chest, still glaring at the bag.

Why did she give me this? It's not like I need to eat food.

Her hand released my shoulder and she gave Mini one last hug before letting us go. I kept my eyes on the bag while we walked down the hall to the front doors. There weren't many people around the hospital. It was probably close to dinner at this point. At least I believe that is when humans eat last.

After a bit of walking Mini started to stare at me. I didn't particularly mind, but he seemed confused about something.

"Why are you so shocked about that bag? Did she put human fingers in it or something?" He asked investigating his own bag.

"No it's just..." My hands tightened around the bag. "I guess I've never received anything like this."

"Food?" Mini laughed lightly. He put the bag at his side and walked through the front doors. I trailed close behind him.

"Forget it." I huffed looking away from the bag. Mini poked my shoulder.

"You know...you're really, really weird." He told me. I blinked and glared down at him. He smiled wide; it was so warm I almost felt bad for shooting him that look. "And I like that." I felt something in my stomach flutter.

Maybe looking at the food made me feel hungry? Although I've never had the desire to eat food.

We walked back to Mini's house, stopping every so often to tease each other or stare at the sky to point out clouds that looked funny. It was nice. This wasn't like I was talking or hanging out with Luke...this was different. Every time he snuck a look at me, or I genuinely smiled and laughed at one of his jokes my heartbeat faster. He thought I didn't notice how his hand naturally reached out to grab mine but stopped before making contact.

I'm not an idiot. I know humans show friendship through physical contact. That's just not what I do. For some reason I didn't want him to touch me at all. I was afraid something would change.

Whether it was on my end, or his.

"Oh, shit I forgot to lock the door." Mini smacked his forehead and ran towards his house which was now in our view. I sprinted up behind him without saying a word about how I had done it for him earlier. Mini grabbed the door handle and pulled it. When it didn't open, he let out a sigh of relief. "I was all out of whack this morning. I must have locked it and forgot I did..."

"Wait, you're not out of whack all the time?" I smirked. He turned around and smacked my arm. I dramatically placed my hand on my forehead. "I've been struck!" Mini rolled his eyes and unlocked the door with a spare key on top of an outdoor lamp. It was well hidden, but now I knew where his key was.

"We should see if Ryan and Luke want to eat over here." Mini wandered inside muttering to himself. I went in behind him and closed the door. "I'll text Luke and Ryan now." He pulled out his phone and typed a quick message. "Bring me your bag." He pointed to the brown paper bag in my hands. I walked over and handed it to him. He took the food from inside and began setting things out at the table. I leaned on a nearby wall and watched him work. "You could help you lazy ass." He directed that at me. I moved forward and laughed.

"Help you?" I snickered. "Not in a million years. Plus...you called me a lazy ass and that hurt my precious feelings." I pouted. He punched me again and handed me a bunch of forks and spoons.

"Set these out and I'll give you some plates next." He walked off towards the kitchen and disappeared from my view. I stared at the objects in my hands.

"Um..." Okay, I'll be honest. I have no fucking idea where to put these. They taught us a lot about humans. I know what these are, and they did teach us what they do with them...

I might have fell asleep during the lesson.

"I'll just put these...here?" I set one fork and one spoon down on the table in front of each chair. Mini came back in and glanced at the table.

"Tyler?" I looked down at him. "Are you messing with me?" He asked. I rubbed the back of my neck and sighed.

"No?" He gave me a doubtful look.

"Those are upside down and facing the wrong direction."

Lol what a loser doesn't know how to set up a table. (I say as I still mix up where the spoon and knife go) Eat your veggies kids. Or don't. You'll live.

P.S. You can blame my friend for the outcome of the next chapter. I gave her an option of one or two. One was something bad, two was something good. (I already had the 'somethings' planned out when I asked her but I don't want to ruin what would have happened if she picked the other number)

You guys are going to have to wait till the next chapter to see what number she picked. I'll give you a hint. It's either one or two :)
