"Alright this is my drop off." Ryan shifted in my arms and stared at Craig.

He of course didn't have shoes to put on, so I ended up carrying him instead. He didn't seem to mind, and I was happy because his feet weren't getting cut up on the rough pavement. Craig shifted his weight to his foot. He moved the gift in his hand to underneath his arm and gave a small wave.

"I'll see you guys at school tomorrow." He said. Before he got too far away Ryan leaned over me and grabbed Craig's shoulder. He gave him a look and Craig rolled his eyes. "I'll be fine Ryan. I think some sleep. Thanks for the gift I promise I'll open it." Ryan sighed but released him. He walked up to his house and gave a smile. "Bye guys!"

"See you tomorrow man." I said. Ryan waved for the both of us and I started the walk to my house. Ryan closed his eyes and placed his head on my chest. He must be tired. I kept my eyes out in front of me and didn't realize Ryan had pulled out his phone. He held it up in front of my face. He had typed on a blank, white screen a message.

...

I'm sorry you had to see that with my mom and everything. I should have done that a long time ago.

...

"It's okay Ryan. I'm glad I was there so you had the option to make your own decision." I smiled at him. He started typing again.

...

Thank you

...

"For what?" I asked.

...

For being here and helping me.

...

"No thank you." Ryan tilted his head to the side in confusion. I focused back on the sidewalk in front of us. "It might not make a whole lot of sense but where I come from all I was ever taught was work and how to be someone I wasn't. You taught me how to feel...human. What it's like to care for someone." I didn't take notice when I hugged him tighter to my chest. It just felt natural. "So really I should be the one thanking you." I finally looked down at him. He sniffled lightly and I saw small tears running down his face. I stopped walking and leaned down. "Don't cry! What's wrong?" Ryan rolled up his sleeves and wiped at his tears. I rushed up to the house and threw open the door. Carrying Ryan to the couch. I set him down lightly and took a seat next to him. Ryan was silently hiccuping and clearing his nose. I pressed my thumbs under his eyes and wiped away new tears that formed. I pulled down his bandana and rubbed at his chin. "Did I say something wrong Ryan? Are you okay?"

Ryan shoved forward and wrapped his arms around my torso. He squeezed me tight and sobbed more into my shoulder. I carefully rubbed his back and whispered little words to comfort him. He kept crying but eventually calmed down. His arms fell and he scooched back from me. His lips were flat and his bruises weren't as prominent as when I had first saw them.

"Better now?" Ryan slowly lifted and dropped his head. I noticed a tired look in his eyes and stood up from the couch. "You're tired. I'll take you to one of the bedrooms." I held out and hand. He grabbed it and stood. I led him to the stairs and gave him the room next to mine. He walked inside and sat down on the bed. It was huge compared to him. "You can borrow some of my clothes to sleep in if you want." I offered. He nodded his head. I walked to my room and grabbed a t-shirt with some pants and gave them to Ryan. "You can change into these and head to bed. I'm going to go grab some food and head to my room. Do you want anything?" Ryan shook his head no. "Alright, feel free to raid the kitchen whenever you want." I walked to the door and gave a friendly wave. "Night Ryan. Sleep well." He tiredly grinned and shook his hand at me. I closed the door and headed down the stairs.
