"I called Craig since he's his friend." I said quietly in the lounge room. Simon seemed preoccupied with his printing and coffee, but still he listened to my voice. "Apparently he got in touch with Ryan and he's not coming into school today." I sipped my tea and set it back down on the table, papers shuffled as my hand moved over them. "Craig said he hadn't known what happened till he had a talk with him yesterday."
Simon moved over to the side of the printer and pressed a few buttons. I kept going because even though others might believe he was ignoring me, I could tell he was paying attention.
"You know how close I am with Craig's mother. It seems only natural I got along with her son. So I know how attached him and Craig are. Don't you find it strange that Ryan didn't immediately text him?" I looked down at my papers and scribbled a few notes. I didn't need to look up at Simon to know his answer. "It just seems like everything changed when Luke came along." I saw a change in Simon's posture, he even slightly choked on his coffee at the mention of Luke's name. "Relax Mr. True. Nobody's around."
"Still. You shouldn't go around saying his son's name like that." He responded, picking up and stack of papers and placing them in front of me. "It's unprofessional."
"Mr. Patterson hired me. He knows you have tendencies to do your own thing." I wrote something else down on a sheet of paper, attempting to look busy to avoid his glare. "I'm just here to vouch for you okay? That's all my family has ever done for you demons." My last sentence came out a little harsher than I meant it to be.
"You know I hate that word Myers." His fist landed next to me on the table.
"I'm sorry." I apologized, grabbing stacks and moving them into different piles. We both decided that getting jobs as teachers would make our real jobs easier. Simon is a demon. I didn't believe him at first but once you see the fire dance in his palm you can't exactly deny it.
My family comes from a long line of demon hunters. Well, that's what I was told.
Apparently, my father lied to me when I was young and wanted to make sure I had a different path from our family. That didn't go over well with hell. My entire family was dedicated to helping and or assisting demons. When we are no longer of use we are killed. Dad was sick of being used and ran away with me when I was born. My dad was killed and I was made a human watchdog for the underworld. I help out whenever I can. Although I never expected to be contacted by the second in command himself for a job.
Mr. Patterson.
Simon was kind of like me. He was a demon that wanted nothing more than to live above ground. He was older than most so he used his rank to convince Mr. Patterson to let him live up here. He watches a specific gang, even became a member himself, to monitor their members and progress. However, Simon is a wild card. He doesn't like to be under someone else's control. So when Mr. Patterson wanted his son to be kept track of above ground he went to Simon, and of course Simon said no. He didn't want to babysit a kid. Patterson eventually convinced him and assigned me to be his advisor, I guess.
I'm just here to make sure he doesn't get into trouble and if something goes wrong I am to protect Luke with my life. Mr. Patterson doesn't fuck around.
"I just find it funny that Luke fell for Ryan the moment he met him." Or rather, I'm jealous his feelings were returned so quickly.
"Too bad it's not made to last." I accidentally snapped the lead on my pencil in surprise. Simon gave me an unimpressed look. "You know what's coming. Luke is going to have to leave sometime. He can't stay here for forever."
"But Autumn has been so happy with her son up here with her." I clenched my pencil in my hand. "Her killing rates have actually gone down a bit. It's quite impressive how calm he makes her. You don't really think Patterson will..."
"Mr. Patterson will do as he pleases. Autumn can't hold back progress for forever. She knows it's coming too." He looked down at his watch and grabbed a few books off the counter. "Our job is to make sure Luke comes back alive and ready to take over the business." I stood up and grabbed a few select papers as Simon held the door open for me. I walked out and he followed by my side.
"You have to report to him soon don't you? Not just about his son but the gang as well?" I asked.
"Yes. It's a pain in the ass how much he asks about how Luke is doing." I nodded my head and opened my mouth to say something when Simon grabbed my arm and pulled me close to him. My face hit his chest and we stayed frozen for a second. "Really Darla? You need to watch where your going." We separated and I noticed a large pole next to me. He pulled my body away just in time.
"I was distracted." I huffed. "But thanks anyways." I pushed a piece of hair behind my ear and followed behind him.
"I'm going to go now. Your class starts in a few minutes correct?" I checked a clock on the wall and nodded. He was about to go when I grabbed his shoulder.
"Are you planning on telling him about Ryan?" I asked quietly. Simon shrugged.
"If Mr. Patterson asks, I can't exactly lie. I'm sure you already told Autumn about them." He scowled. I rubbed the back of my neck.
"Well she called for an update!" I pouted. "It was nice to see her call me so I may have let a few things slip..." His eyes rolled and he clenched his books. He turned back around and started walking out.
"I'll see you again tomorrow night unless you decide to drop by again in the morning." He waved behind him and walked out. I sighed and started the path to my classroom.
Simon is a good person. He just doesn't see it in himself. He was up all night yesterday talking to the principle about new bullying punishments, and about what happened to Ryan.
Simon cares, he really does.
Once he hears from Ryan who did it, I know the person will receive harsh punishment.
"Good." I whispered to myself. I don't ever think about calling a child a fucker or a bitch but this time...
I think I'll make an exception.

Well, Mr. True and Mrs. Myers...who knew? Mr. True do be a demon.
I wonder how much Mr. Patterson actually knows. (Mr. True probably left out the raging homosexual part. . . Probably)
