Storms' POV
"It's risky, but I think you should do it. There's nothing else we can do, and even if this fails, it wouldn't change the outcome." Recovery Girl said. I nodded. I knew that there was a high chance Keigo wouldn't make it through this. My colleagues and Dabi stood close to the door, anxiously watching. I needed support in case things took a turn for the worst.
Shakily, I reached out, letting my hands hover over my boyfriend's body. Ice began to mist out of my hands, soaking into him. I held it there for about four minutes before backing away.
"Now we wait." I muttered. It would take about two hours for the disease to migrate to his throat. When that happened we would perform a quick surgery, I would freeze the thing, take it out, put it in an ice jar to study later, close his throat again and be done.
"He'll be alright, Storms." Aizawa said. I weakly smiled.
"Thank you." I had to convince myself he'd survive, or it would only make things worse with my current mindset.
"He's stronger than you know. He'll make it. Hawks is a stubborn ass." Dabi said. I laughed a little.
"I think we all are, just a little." I said.
"No, that's not exactly true. You're the most stubborn person on earth." Kayama grinned.
"I might be." I shrugged.
My friends did their best to distract me and keep my mood uplifted while the two hours passed. Eventually, after what seemed like way longer than two hours, they did. Recovery Girl got my attention, waving me over. I hated the way my boyfriend appeared right now. Because of the way the ice was working, it looked like he had died and his body had been shoved in a meat locker.
"Alright, Frostbite, I've already set up a special breathing tube," Recovery Girl gestured to his chest, which had been cut slightly to put in said special breathing tube, since we needed to operate on his throat and couldn't put the tube down that way.
"Now it's up to you." She said, knowing I was the one who had to do the surgery since I was the one who did this procedure last time. I drew in a shuddering breath, unsheathing my claws. I quickly went to the sink, washed my hands, and returned. I didn't want to give him some virus because I hadn't washed my hands or claws. Carefully, I made a vertical slit in his throat. Recovery Girl kept the area clean while I worked, opening up the wound and organ. I felt sick, seeing the black blob move around in his throat, obviously trying to get away from the opening. But before it could I touched it, freezing it. Slowly, I lifted the thing up and out of his body, creating a jar made out of ice. I put the thing inside of it, sealed it shut, and set it to the side, quickly washing my hands again so any residue didn't get back into his body. After that, I moved back over to my boyfriend, using my ice to close his throat again, since it was much more effective than stitches. Once that was done, Recovery Girl used her Quirk to heal the wound on his neck. It left a decent-sized scar there. She put some type of bandage over it, wrapping them all the way around his neck in the way you would cover a sprained ankle with a wrap to give it support.
"Alright. He should wake up soon, as long as he stays stable." She said. I let out a shuddering breath, not realizing I hadn't been breathing.
"Y-You guys don't have to stay here anymore." I said, looking back at my friends.
"We're not going anywhere." I smiled faintly, grateful that they chose to stay.
————————
A soft whimpering snapped me out of my daze. It was late at night now, and all my friends had pulled chairs into the room and fallen asleep. I couldn't though, so I stood the entire time. Looking down, I noticed Keigo started to move.
He wearily blinked his eyes open. I could see they were partly clouded, telling me he had almost died.
My heart leapt out of my chest when he looked at me.
"Oh my god... you're okay!" I whispered, beginning to sob. I carefully lifted his torso into my arms, hugging him. He leaned into me, weakly nuzzling his head into my chest. My tears dropped down onto my arms as I cried.
"Keigo I thought I lost you!" I whispered. He was too weak to talk, so instead he gently nudged my side with his hand.
"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere, I'm staying right here. I know you're in pain right now but the thing that was making you sick is gone now. You'll be okay." I stroked his hair, hoping it would calm him down. He was anxious and in pain, I could sense it even without the monitors he was hooked up to.
Our friends started to wake up, happily greeting Keigo. He would pull away from me to give each of them a smile before leaning into me again. I insisted they go get some real sleep after they said hi, and they reluctantly did. Dabi moved into the empty office across the hall from this room, where he had set up a little room. He had kept his word and not once stabbed us in the back, so we let him sleep in an unlocked room.
Once everyone had left I hopped up into the hospital bed Keigo was on, letting him curl up against me. I lifted the blanket up so it covered everything but his head and neck. He set his one hand on my shoulder, the other in my own. His heart rate slowed down to a healthy pace.
"I love you so much, Kei." I murmured. He tried to squeeze my shoulder but ended up just moving his fingers a little. I chuckled, amused and happy that he was trying even though he was so weak.
"I won't ever let you go again."
