Chapter 6 - Fear

As this never-ending fight against the shape-shifting demons continues, it now uses Fengjiu's fear of serpents against her. "Xiaobai are you able to continue? I am here, don't be scared!" he states, reassuring her. She nods her head, and he holds her up against his side. Even when he tells her not to be scared, she is still terrified because it is not just one giant snake. There are thousands and thousands of snakes and the quantity just keeps growing.

"Xiaobai just hold on, I promise I will get us out of this!" Donghua said in a tired voice. As Fengjiu looks at everyone and she realizes everyone she loves and cares about is getting tired and hurt from this never-ending battle.

When Donghua takes her flying out of the barrier she sees that all the demons were following the scent from her blood. This makes her realize that the demon was all along after her only. She wonders what thing is in or on her that is attracting the demons.

While they were flying away from the demons towards the den, everyone gathered together and formed a barrier. Everyone yells out "Xioajiu!" all with a worried face running towards her. "I am fine please don't worry." she said softly as she lay in Donghua's arms.

"Qianqian, I don't think the barrier will hold much longer. We need to figure out a solution." Yehua lets out with anger. "There must be a way!" replies in frustration. "Donghua is there really nothing we can do to stop this chaos?" ZheYan asks. "No, the more we hurt them, the stronger they get and multiply. If there was a strong enough beast to devour them or if there is a powerful way to purify all the beasts at once." Donghua replies. "You're kidding, even the mightiest Dijun can't resolve it?" ZheYan smirked. "ZheYan, are you serious? We don't have time to joke around like this. We really need to figure out a way..." Zhenzhen annoyingly said.

Just as Zhenzhen finished his sentences part of the barrier was no longer able to withhold all the attacks from all the beasts attacking all at once. Everyone within the barrier fled but some of the soldiers weren't that lucky, some got attacked and got devoured by the beasts. As Fengjiu watches what is happening to everyone around her she gets really upset. The next thing she notices her favourite fourth uncle, BaiZhen, gets attacked on his back.

"NO! FOURTH UNCLE!" Fengjiu cries with painful sorrel while Donghua continues to protect them. In her mind she keeps blaming herself for all the chaos.

"It's my fault, everyone that I love and care for is getting hurt! Because of me! Because they are all trying to protect me. Because I am weak. I can't bear to watch anyone else get hurt anymore. If the demon was all along after me only, then If I use myself as bait and lure all of them away from here, everyone would be safe. But these are snakes...arggggg.... Why does it have to be snakes that I hate and the worst of all it has to be the Basilisk and most important of all, I can't let anyone follow me or else they would get hurt as well! Since these demons can't be hurt it means they need to be purified instead. She remembers when Donghua was using fuling flowers to purify in the Jieyou spring at Fanyin valley."

She quickly remembered that Donghua once told her;

["If you ever need to seal someone or a group of people in a place that you don't want them to follow you, like a protecting barrier you can do this spell. And if you ever need to purify something, you know our favourite, fuling flower is a not bad choice to summon to help you in a crisis state. But keep in mind that it will consume a lot of your cultivation if you're using it to purify demonic situations. So, don't use it unless you are in great danger! But, because you will always have me by your side to protect you in all situations, you don't need to worry. So promise me that you will never ever do that spell." Donghua said in a strict tone of voice. "Okay my dear, I promise I won't do stupid things, but I can't rely on you to be there for me every situation." she pouted at him.]

"All I have to do is to make everyone retreat and push Donghua in before I cast the barrier on them, and lure the demons away from here."

"Donghua we all need to retreat into the fox den and cast another protection barrier; the cave is strong enough to withhold the monsters." she forces out and tries not to let him see that she's lying. "I agree that is a good plan!" he replies, then he yells to everyone else " We need to retreat into the fox den and cast a protection barrier. Quickly we don't have much time."

Everyone started to do what Donghua said, at the same time Fengjiu pretended to do the same thing. Once they all got to the den pathway Fengjiu pushed everyone in with her power and cast the spell to seal the den. Everyone calling her name and questioning her what she is doing.

"XIAOBAI! WHAT ARE YOU DOING." Donghua angrily demands as he looks into Fengjiu's eyes and keeps on hitting the barrier hoping to break through.

She stared into his eyes and started to cry "I'm sorry!" she whispers. She flies out into the sky far from the den. As she flies out all the demons follow her out. Donghua went berserk trying to break through to get to Fengjiu.

"Donghua, calm down you can't get through no matter how hard you try." ZheYan said while worrying about Fengjiu. "I shouldn't have taught her that stupid spell!" he cries regretfully.

As Fengjiu flies high, high above all the demons, most of them couldn't touch her. The only one that could still reach her was the Basilisk.
